The programme ran from October 1972 to May 1986
These are the first two theme tunes
I don't seem to remember them doing a lot with the third one.
The studios closed in 2004 and were demolished the following year

Haha me too. Was forced to watch it as I spent sick days off school at my grandad’s house and he was all about this and the matinee showing of crossroads

As You Please (the first tune) is in F major. Miller's Tune, which succeeded it, is in A major. I have a musical background and a very good memory for tunes!

@@angelacooper2661 thank you for sharing this. I absolutely love listening to older theme tunes. We were so spoilt to have such incredible music in the 60s and 70s . Do you have a favourite? Mine is , Pop Looks Bach ( ski ⛷️ Sunday).

I'm just about old enough to remember Pebble Mill at One. A great programme which entertained without patronising or dumbing down, which is unfortuantely all our current daytime TV output does. I was a big fan of Donny B. McLeod, who originally was a news reporter here in my old Grampian/BBC Aberdeen region. Also a great tragedy that they demolished Pebble Mill as there's a great legacy of brilliant shows made there over the years.

They did actually show some pride in everything they did.

@@bdavebaldwin They took enormous pride. Pebble Mill took a Doctor Who story into production following problems at Television Centre and the director (Paddy Russell) made the point that the team there gave it their all and couldn’t have been more professional and committed. A great chapter in BBC history.

I used to watch this programme with my nan when I was home on holiday from boarding school in Cheltenham when I was about 7 or 8 years old and really enjoyed it.

Yes it was too really. A shame that Michael Grade, when he was controller of BBC1 at the time, cancelled the series in 1986 to make way for what turned out to be the News and then Neighbours so too?! Viewers did not like it and the series did return from 1991 to 1996, albeit at 2.00pm instead?!
@brucedanton3669
@brucedanton3669 9 месяцев назад
Also, during its original run, it was shown on BBC1 around also the News, and the children's series. If schools series were on they would have been too. But at other times when nothing was on, instead it was Test Card F or later Pages from Ceefax if not too?!

Oh for a time machine to go back to the 1970s and 80s. A simpler world where things made sense.

I was at school in Cheltenham in the 1970s when Pebble Mill aired on TV at lunchtime I was about 11 when it started Nd only got view it when I was off school poorly or on holiday. But I really enjoyed this programme.

If it broke down on the way, I'd settle for the early 1990s.

Pebble Mill's started when I was just two and finished around the time I would have been nearly sixteen and taking my O Levels! Of the two themes, I prefer Miller's Tune as I remember that one better. My childhood and adolescence memories spent watching the programme.

Now what I'd like to hear even more is the one that was introduced after Miller's Tune. So it would have been about 1982. All I can recall is a slightly funk-synth feel with a female voice simply repeating "Pebble Mill At One".

The third theme I remember really well (I have a rough audio copy from April 1986 complete with dropouts!) - It was incredibly catchy and had a Rod Argent/Peter Van Hooke vibe (who recorded the theme to sitcom The Two Of Us). I wonder if it was them. I'll trawl about for it sometime and get back :D
@80sandretrogubbins25

It was composed by Mike Batt. It's called "Miller's Tune", under the band name of Patchwork.
