In an accident with burning oil I set my hands on fire which caused 3rd degree burns. The thing I remember forty five years later was how I could feel my skin and my fingers shrivelling up as I looked at them thinking, “ I’m on fire.” The chap in Herculaneum would have been shocked but would not have suffered. It to over half an hour before I felt the terrible pain from my burns. That depth of sudden burning destroys the peripheral nerve endings and it takes the brain time to adjust. I am still amazed by that fact.

Imagine an Innuit man being shown curiosities of the 'modern', world, a museum. Seeing his own father, preserved and on display. The Innuit howls in horror. The Mummy is later buried with honour..... I haven't heard them mention the arrowhead in Atze's shoulder. More dramatic theories I guess.

All the investigation into otzi’s death indicates that he. Was killed by an arrow to his shoulder from the back and below. The arrow shaft was deliberately removed. There was also a cut on his left Palm as if he had been in a struggle with someone holding a flint knife. There’ are indications that he had descended, ascended and again descended the mountain then finally ascended again. He had also eaten a meal of almost 1/2 pound of Ibex and Eincorn wheat, before this struggle. These facts are from an intense investigation performed during an examination by many teams of scientists that removed material from his stomach, retrieved material. From which his DNA was ascertained and from the X-ray that. Discovered the flint arrowhead still in his body. From this evidence, it is unlikely that he was a sacrifice. He was murdered.
@folgore1

I heard about the arrowhead buried in his back too. I wonder how old this vid is?
@walterulasinksi7031
@walterulasinksi7031 3 года назад
@@folgore1 the Smithsonian video has no credits so when it was made is unknown. Some videos are still made that do not have the more recent information and therefore need updating through the comments. While speculative, my conclusion is that there were two involved in Otzi’s death. One that was attacking with a knife and the other that shot him with the arrow. There is also the possibility that while leaving the axe, some other treasure was stolen from him. Although more investigation would be required as to what would be so valuable as to cause such violent actions.
@Chris-ic6bp

Thanks for the information regarding the likely cause of death for this man. Very sad and misfortune ending for him. To spend eternity on display for somebody else's profit and amusement is another layer of injustice for this long-dead man. Recognizing the disrespect and inhumanity with which his corpse has been treated is another layer of sadness to his death.
@walterulasinksi7031
@walterulasinksi7031 Год назад
@@Chris-ic6bp, Possibly so, however, even though we do mot really know anything about who he was, the facts of the age of his death,5,300 years ago and the artifacts with. Him especially his copper axe, has forced historians to consider how much earlier the smelting of copper occurred, (almost a thousand years ). While we have given him a name, his refrigerated coffin still honors him and like the Mummies in museums, when we can speak their names, they live on.
@ellenbryn

I wondered about that too. This special seems to lean rather heavily on the testimony of one specialist who seems really keen to interpret anything unknown as human sacrifice, sort of like the old Motel of the Mysteries joke about "meaning of item unclear; must be religious."

Think of all scenarios? I've worked in healthcare, emergency, trauma etc. So many wounded or killed when turning away at an attempt to run/escape. Could be both scenarios? Was it a cowardly attack or was Otzi a nasty person & deserved what he got? Was he ostracised? A sacrifice? Was thinking that if they take his axe, would be cursed? Fascinating!

I saw 'Sylvester' a number of years ago in the 'Ye Old Curiosity Shoppe' in Seattle, WA. They had him on show standing in a glass and wood cabinet covered with just a strategically placed blanket. I can't remember what 'his story' was that the owners had concocted for him but I do have to say he was in amazing condition. Found a few years later he wasn't who they said he was and I felt sorry that he should be given a proper burial or something like it.

Ok, I have always disagreed with those who say the ax would have been stolen by a murderer. This was an incredibly rare item. It would be as if someone disappeared at work and Pete suddenly showed up driving a Ferrari that looked just like missing Fred’s Ferrari. I think he was murdered, and perhaps was able to hide from his killer (taking his food wouldn’t have been an obvious “tell”) but I think the reason all of his things were with him was that he and his killer were from the same group. If it was warfare, trophies would have been taken. If you killed your shaman, your chief or even just your wife’s irritating brother, you don’t take anything that would tell the people at home what you’d done. They would recognize his clothing and tools.

Would love to watch this but there is no closed captioning which, being deaf, I need.

So, anyone can buy and sell a corpse as an oddity display? This seems highly illegal, not to mention unethical! Is Andy willing to sell me his Fathers corpse, that I might display in my Freak show?

You can do manual labor and not have calluses due to habitual use of emollients animal fats and petroleum jelly etc. Nails can be filed very close. Some gymnasts take a very high level of care. Brute labor. Excluded.

I was in a antique shop and on a table were the bones of the captain of the ship the Lucitania. His bones were there on display for years. You could even pick them up off the table. I don’t know what happened to them after the shop closed.

22:53 I think that the little Inca girl should be back in her place that they found her 22,000 feet in the mountains. Lay on top of her the memories of how when and where they found her. She will be best left alone. 32:29 where I wonder if the other parts of his body ever be found?

I’m not sure I’m buying this story as no one knows about this man. However, his preservation is excellent. Perhaps better than the Egyptian mummies
