The pedalShield Uno is an Arduino shield by ElectroSmash that turns your Arduino Uno board into a digital effects pedal for your guitar. The shield is sold as a kit that you can solder together yourself and the best part is that all of the hardware and software are open source.

Thank you so much for making this video! I've been interested in making my guitar sound like an atari and/or commodore 64 for a while now (im even considering prying out the SID chip in my C64 and bread boarding with it to try to play through the chip itself), so the notion of making a programmable pedal is VERY appealing to me. But I lack ANY experience with a soldering iron and know nothing about mechanical engineering. So this video has been very motivational for my 8-bit guitar dreams!

Very cool. So in theory, with the right coding and a fast enough processor, and quality A/D and D/A you could replace all of your pedals with this.

@@cassianofranco3082 esp32 is way more powerful in terms of processing power compared to an arduino, so i guess it wouldn't be an issue. However the ADC and DAC quality on that would also play a role and I don't have a comparison on that aspect

could I use this shield to add effects to audio signal captured from a microphone, and send the result to an amp? Or is this shield reserved for guitare?

Guitar signals are a little hotter than microphones, so maybe you´d need to preamplify your microphone before going through this. If your mixer/board has an fx loop, i´d put the pedal there.

wrong kind of gear for the desired effects a dsp is the way to go arduino would be must more useful as a digital pot controller for analog pedals

IMHO there's a difference between DIY and professional gear, this would be more for fun,not for gigging, there's hobby musicians and professional ones anyway =p

zoomg1/b1 owner here ... i am not sure if you are saying anything bad about these products or good . i will go on the record and say they are GREAT products . especially considering the price tag . i got a both and i also bought a g3 and did the firmare ug - not a g3n a g3 . same models but a lil more , like a dynaflanger . these are the best multis out there for the money atm .

And a DSP would be infinitely more of an hurdle for a beginner. Don't forget the base audience of Arduino :P That being said: as a advanced programmer I definitely think the Arduino can be used for DSP and it's a fun challenge squeezing every clock cycle and memory bit out of the thing. Of course you aren't going to get clean audio at 48KHz/24-bits, but the lower-samplerate-8-bit-ness definitely has it's charm if that is that is what you want. Doesn't matter if you are a professional musician or not. There are quite a few professional musicians that make music using all sorts of "toys" ;) It definitely has it's place, especially in DIY!

could you in theory make multiple tones and switch them on the fly by switching the chip? imagine carrying multiple pedals in your pocket ans switching them out like came cards

Yes you definitely could! I plan to try this with a Metro m0 board since it has the same pin-out as an Uno but has a lot more space with the SAMD21 chip compared to the 328.

Hello Liz: This is a great post. I'll bet you are a pro at soldering now. I soldered a few months back a little and then stopped. I reviewed some updated soldering video and I realized I was really not doing it right. I was doing just what you are not suppose to do...paint it on. On those little boards what works for me is to put the iron on the opposite side of she solder wire. The solder flows right to the heat and you can almost time it to get a good solder. Also, you are so sweet. But girl, the word tremolo? I can tell you love music as I do, but you have to learn how to say tremolo.
