Clear green water cascading over limestone falls is what makes this park, 35 miles west of Austin, so unique. Pedernales Falls State Park features scenic hill country terrain perfect for swimming, hiking, biking, horseback riding and camping. The park's covered bird and wildlife viewing station is another popular feature. For more information, visit www.LifesBetterOutside.org.

My son and I went Primitive camping there. We went right after Thanksgiving and stayed for two nights. When we got there it was hot! We were sweating up a storm walking to the site. Then a cold front blew in around noon. The temperature dropped about 25 degrees. It got real cold. We were prepared. There were thunderstorms while we were sleeping and the thunder was LOUD lol. During the day there was a very light drizzle (misty) . We walked some trails and carved some spoons to eat with. This place is awesome! We had a great time. On to the next State Park!

We camped here many times when my kids were young years ago. Loved it! Actually "Pedernales" means flint rock in Spanish. This is because of all the large boulders in the river. So there's the "Texan" and Latino pronunciation....whatever works for you. It's just so beautiful.

You're right! It is a Spanish word... and that means the Spanish pronunciation is the true pronunciation. ♡

@@JohnSmith-kz8yo I grew up ten miles down the road. It's only dangerous if you are down in the canyon and there is a flash flood or you aren't watching your step when walking along some of the cliffs. Otherwise, it is no more dangerous than any other place.

Pedernales is a Spanish word that means, flint rock. Can’t believe the Park Ranger didn’t know. Texas once belonged to Spain and Mexico if y’all didn’t know.

I'd say yes, on a new moon 🌚, best I've experienced in TX, was South Llano River State Park, near Junction. It's a designated International Dark Sky spot. Enjoy 🏕 👣 ✨

Too bad you have to pay at least 6.00 to even drive through a park in Texas. We wanted to see the camp areas to decide if we wanted to stay. Not gonna pay just to look. So not staying in state parks in Texas.

E.D You can look the park up in maps and get a pretty good idea where you might want to camp.

There is gold down there also. You can get a little if you know how to pan. It's not a big thing, but yeah - it's there. And lots of pyrite as well.
