A neutered version of the story, geared towards sheltering and depriving children of ugly yet essential truths. I'm not impressed. Go work for Disney, you might fit right in.
Could've kept some of the more complex motifs of the story of Peer Gynt in the Mountain Hall. Like how he's there to marry the princess of the trolls, he didn't walk in uninvited. Dunno why modern children books are so afraid of such. Love the artwork though, food for a child's imagination.
I like it the way it is tbh - the creative license taken shifts the focus in a way that makes it way more engaging for kids, while the silently mischievous troll princess in the background artwork still keeps hinting at the themes at heart of the original
