Sinatra and Lee had genuine affection for each other. He conducted one of her albums and they maintained a close relationship for the remainder of his life. When Sinatra performed, as Lee's health deteriorated, he would send his private plane to pick her up and transport her to his concerts.
These 2 genius singers, like Billie Holliday convince you that they’re simply telling stories. Meanwhile the groove, the intonation, the musical spontaneity, are perfect.
It's funny...I love Zeppelin with all my heart...listen to the drum and guitar interplay on "For your Life" off of Presence and you will be absolutely blown away by the timing...but listening to the absolute beauty and off the cuff brilliance of these two is unbelievable. Truly, they create a work of magic.
I’ve always adored this version since I was nine years old. It has such an effortless, laidback, sexy swing to it. It’s such an underrated performance. 💜
Love this. My parents, born in 1924, used to be part of the original crowd that cheered on the young 'Frankie' in Hoboken! He has that Jersey Kool "you're on".....
Two fantastic voices. My father took us to see Sinatra in 1962 at the studio but it wasn't this performance unfortunately. Sinatra was a wonderful generous guy but hell on women.
I love hearing these old standards. It reminds me of when my grandparents were still alive, they’d play songs like this on the piano. What a terrific interpretation! Great song to look up and see how all these artists over the years have made it their own.
I love this music. I am sick of the endless pausing of my playlist by RU-vid that is always preceded by a RU-vid Premium subscription app commercial! This racist and classist crap from Google has got to end.
I've listened to every verison of this song but only come back and listen to this version, the mood, the chemistry, just makes me want to get into a tub and melt all my troubles away.
Peggy is an absolute genius at feeling rhythm. The band seems to gravitate to her groove and words consequently show statements and have much more weight and authenticity than Frank’s. Only she and Billie Holliday can pull off this magic trick of making us believe every word.
Beneath it all, there is an incredible level of musicianship that supports the work of these two hugely charismatic performers Peggy and Frank, who then display so much charm, elegance, and sensuality..all the way through...making it all look sooo easy!
I'm with you Gaby they were the coolest back then. I never saw this clip before and I watched most everything on Sinatra I'm a huge fan. Peggy is awesome too, love their relaxed style vocals with a song. These were the great standards. I'd love to be strolling with the one girl sighing sigh after sigh with my Tiger Girl. ;) Thanks for sharing it my dear I loved it too!
My favorite was when she sang with The Righteous Brothers on The Ed Sullivan In their own way they were linked. Phil Spector Produced "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" and he was the Protege of The Late Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller. They Wrote "I'm A Woman" & "Is That All There Is".
It's so nice to have such a civil conversation. Yes I know the tune having sung it many times myself. My point was these artists do not "goof". They are consummate pro's and they make art not "goofs." I'm surprised you were not critical of their loose interpretation of the rhythm. Oh well, have a nice day anyway.
Andrea Wilkerson Have a nice day? That is an expression so brilliant that I've never heard anything like it before, and likely never will again. Your IQ keeps going higher and higher in my estimation. Listen, nitwit, the meaning of "goof" doesn't depend on who's doing it. Goof is an unintended mistake. Peg sang "show me" when Frank sang "tell me," the correct lyrics, and she quickly realized her flub. A real pro and artist, she instantly made a cute joke of it, and should get credit for that, just as you should get credit for living this long running on about fourteen brain cells.
