I'm 69. As far as I'm concerned, he's the most stylish, powerful and talented player ever. Great vision, technique, power. That header against Italy WC Final 1970 - THE best headed goal I've ever seen. He rose high going backwards and got power and direction on the ball. There is Muhammad Ali in Boxing and there is Pele in Football - stylish, power, and epic skill. Just superb. R.I.P PELE
He also managed to develop a technique in which he would not close his eyes when heading the ball. Insane if you think about it but I remember watching a documentary in which he says he managed to do it so that he was always in control and could see where the other players and the keeper were. Genius.
You've perfectly described my feeling: Pele was ind4ed the Muhammed Ali of football. Some people will protest, but I think most will come down on the side of the true greatest.
There's a volcano in Martinique called Mount Pelée which was one of the most deadly volcanic eruptions, Pelé is old French for bald, so it means bald mountain. Night on Bald Mountain was in Fantasia, in folklore it where witches go on their sabbath, in the film it's Walpurgis night (30th April, Church of Satan formed on Walpurgis).
I am typing this with the help of my grandson, Mike. I am 93 and had been at all World Cup Finals where Pele and Brazil won. When I pass away, I would leave to my children, a shirt signed by Pele. RIP Dear Pele.
He is beyond a legend. I know no one that does not know the name Pelé. I think he is the only football player that all the USA know who he is, an almost impossible feat considering your country does not care as much as other sports.
For as long as football will be played on this planet, Pelé will be forever remembered. No-one will ever come close to his impact both on and off the pitch.
The bloodiest civil war was stopped in Nigeria back in the 60's so they could watch this man play. Unbelievable. Players from following generations learned from him and were inspired by him. He was the FIRST, the ORIGINAL. The BEST. The greatest ever. Period. Rest in peace KING.👑👑👑👑👑
1970 wasn't my first WC, but 1966 is a bit hazy, as I was only 10 or 11. So I'm with you 100% on how much of an influence the 1970 competition was influential. Not just for the football, but also for the tv coverage.... remember the panel we watched every day in Britain?: It was a completely new style of "punditry" (maybe that word didn't even exist then!). Who was there?.... I remember Derek Dougan, Pat Crerand, and Malcolm Allison, and I loved watching their discussions. The style seemed suddenty completely new.
I cried this morning..at work when I found out he passed, my work colleagues thought I was acting....the sad thing is my heart broke a little, I was a fan since I was a 12 year old girl in Soviet Union/ Georgia...moved to South Africa and still was so proud of him. A legend has died. Rest in peace Pele
Pelé represents something far beyond football. He demonstrates that a young black man, poor, from the periphery can be successful in life and that he can reach places never conquered before.
second... diego was not of this world... but i will agree he was much better than messi and ronaldo lol...question is how messi and ronaldo become to overrated lol watch the movie idiocrasy this is the times......
@seekthetruth8803 Christian society is lost.. Here in Brazil there are only ambitious religious leaders and Catholics practicing adultery and alcoholism.. Women mix with prostitutes and most of them walk around in indecent clothes. And there is still the destruction of society with the rise of liberal and communist policies in South America... I think the best religion in the world is Islam.
THE true GOAT. RIP Pele; as a kid who was just getting into football in the early 90s (thanks to my dad) I was quickly made aware of how great he was. Over the years I consistently enjoyed watching old footage of him playing. Now I can appreciate what he has done for the sport and Brazil. Thank you for everything 😢❤❤❤❤❤
Back when it was very hard for anyone outside Brazil to know something, anything about Brazil, they knew about Pelé. That's why he's king... during a very long time all people knew about Brazil was Pelé, Senna, and perhaps something about Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer and Carnaval. If you knew just a few things about us, that'd be it. His legend opened up the doors of the country for the rest of the world. I'm Brazilian, not even a football fan, but I know all of us owe him for how he painted an image of Brazil in foreign nations, his brilliant career, and how he continued humbly working throughout his life in so many different fronts, against racism, for better education of children, and for football as a sport of peace and understanding. We are orphaned now together with his family, but his legacy is forever. May Brazil, football and all his fans respect his legacy and may we continue striving towards his wishes and his fights!
Greatest player and athlete of all time, also, quite possibly the most famous person on planet earth for more than 5 decades. King, may you Rest in Peace.
Very true. Arguably the most famous person on planet Earth for more than 5 decades. He was more than a footballer and sportsman. He was everything a man would wish for. His legacy would be almost impossible to surpass. RIP Edson Arantes do Nascimento RIP The King RIP Pele.
@@blueray7176 I wouldn't even say Maradona was the best. Maradona was a drug addicted and used cocaine and other stimulants. To me that's cheating. Pele never used drugs. Players from following generations learned from Pele and were inspired by him. He was the FIRST, the ORIGINAL. The BEST. The greatest ever. Period. Rest in peace KING Pele.
I’m Brazilian and it’s been emotional to see old men crying on TV or internet talking about Pele. Sports and most specifically football again showing how deep it is connected to human soul, an inspiration about life. To play football is to make friends, have fun, get healthy, prepare for tough situations in life. So many analogies. The death of Pele somehow are making people rewatch their own lives. Specially the ones who watched him play.
PELE, no doubt he was greatest footballer and great character he build in sport and I'm glad he didn't involved in politic which makes him kings of people heart. Rest in peace world never forget him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Greatest footballer ever without doubt. Did what Maradona,, Ronaldho and Messi did on pitches not much better than ploughed fields, with heavy leather balls, before anyone could pinch skills off the TV, from the youngest age with no scholarship, won three World Cups and became a superb ambassador off the pitch too. RIP
It would be wrong to say Brazilian legend. He is the legend of the world sport let alone football and it is irreparable loss to have lost the legend. My heartfelt condolences to his family and to the entire nation of Brazile. Rest in peace legend.
Rest in peace Legend Pele. Definitely one of the "Greatest footballers of all time", not only your fans but football as a whole will miss you, thank you for all the memories which you have given all of us over the years especially the 3 World Cups for Brazil🇧🇷 will never be forgotten you were a true hero not just for brazilians but for bilions around the world, again Rest in peace King Pele! 😭😭😭😭
My parents probably haven't watched a single football/soccer but damn if they didn't know who Pelé were. Everyone knows Pelé and beyond the sport, his legacy as an embassador would make him a legend for eternity.
R.I.P Pele 🇧🇷🏐 a humble man the greatest footballer ever total love and respect from a Leeds United 🦚🇮🇨 supporter 🇧🇷 My favourite non Leeds United player of all time football Genius gone never forgotten brother 🤍💛💙🇮🇨🇧🇷🙏🏐
The best EVER! He will NEVER be eclipsed by any other footballer EVER! No-one, repeat no-one will ever match his football ability, his charisma, his impeccable manners, both on and off the field. His goals were phenomenal, his skill unmatched. Goodbye Edson. There will never another like you. From and English admirer who watched you from 1962 onwards. Thank you so much for gracing our football pitches.
@@grindcorizer6818 That cos most world cups, he was kicked off the pitch before he even got started! They were out to get him from the moment the whistle went. Wasn’t just about scoring goals either. It was his all round football ability. Granted, the others you mentioned were wonderful footballers, especially Eusebio, but you can’t put the others in the same class as Pele. He was a one off. There will never be another like him.
What a miss... He is not a Brazilian Great but Football Greatest 💯% 😭😭RIP legend we will miss you but your memories will never leave us Love from Sierra Leone 🇸🇱🇸🇱🇸🇱🇸🇱
Long before I knew about football, I knew about Pele. He made me watch it and appreciate it. The game will go on but for me, Pele is football and football is Pele.
While reading textbooks when I was young, I came to know about the legend Pele as Black Jewel. From there, love Brazilian football. The hand of whom the fame and popularity of football spread all over the world, true football lovers are saddened by the end of the life of that famous man. ৷৷৷৷৷৷৷৷৷৷৷।।"You are forever remembered great hero"।।।।।।।।।
Absolute king, legend and icon. This man was the first international athlete ever, rubbed shoulders with kings, queens, presidents and heads of states as an honored guest, had a Middle East sheik wait for him in a airport for a chance to meet him, stopped a war in Africa for 2 days because both sides wanted to see him play and was the first athlete to advocate for equal treatments for all races in soccer. RIP Edson Arantes do Nascimento (Pelé)
Aside his numbers (It is an anachronistic argument that the Brazilian league was weak, given the fact that the Brazilian National team until the 90's was made 100% by domestic league players. And those teams, when playing against the Europeans, usually won) This man made football being loved in countries that, before him, didn't like the sport. Racist countries started to love him. Wars have stoped to see him! He made the football evolve in various aspects (tatics, yellow and red cards, skills, marking, pressing, nutrition and phisical training), mainly because he was way ahead of his time, in athletic terms, dribling and in technical terms. We have football before and after Pelé. So he is the greatest by what he made football achieve in the world, and for what the football develop to keep his pace.
True, people that say it really don't understand about what was happening back then, they are thinking about the past but with the context of the present. Back then not playing in Europe would say nothing about how good you were, if it was like that, why Di Stefano, Puskas and Cruijf would praise Pelé so highly and over them, nobody know more about football on that times then those guys.
Thank you for the memories...undeniably the world's greatest player. The man who stamped the fact that outstanding skills can win you the game. May he RIP.
Before Pele number 10 was just another number, some may say “back in time defensive players were naive” what they dont get is that Pele was the reason they had to develop defense so welll… he invented most of the tricks and play, also they created some positions to counter him… and if soccer was so bat back in time, why there are no other with so many goals?
@@liveuser8527 Pele won 3 world cups and won the first one at the age of 17! Messi only 1 at age of 35! You are a dreamer. Pele was the first, the original, the best ever. And most of Messi's goals are from penalties. 13.3 per cent of Messi's scored goals are penalties. His five penalties at Qatar 2022 are the most by any player in any single edition of the World Cup. 🤣🤣🤣
@@marybb3390 1 of those world cups he was injured and only played like one game...the STACKED Brazilian team won without him. And in NONE of his 3 world cup wins was he even voted Brazils best player.. Pele didn't WIN 3 world cups on his own...nor was he the biggest influencing factor on the wins. He just HAPPENED to have been born at a time to be part of Brazils "golden generation". Lets say Pele Played for Northern Ireland do you think Pele would have 3 world Cups? Should George Best NOT be regarded as one of the greats simply because he is limited by his national team MESSI is the BEST...and he was the BEST even before he helped Argentina win the world cup
R. I. P. PELE, NOT ONLY A GREAT ATHLETE, BUT A TRUE GENTLEMAN TOO JUST LIKE JACKIE ROBINSON WAS IN MANY WAS IN HIS LIFE. THE WORLD IS NOT GOING TO BE THE SAME WITHOUT MEN LIKE PELE.
RIP Pele, a legend, you were a footballer, played for the shirt, played to entertain. If only all the players today were the same. From poverty, to a world icon, you have left a legacy my friend. Thanks for the memories. A legenda bem conhiemento. 😢🇧🇷⚽️
An absolute legend of the game and a great personality outside football. He shall be missed and joins the other great one, Maradona, in the heavens. R.I.P., Pele.
Pele has died. The most divine of footballers and joyous of men. He played a game only a few chosen ones have come close to. 3 times he lifted the most coveted gold trophy in that beautiful yellow shirt. He may have left us but he’ll always have footballing immortality. RIP Pele
Pele played with a spiritual grace that changed the lives of people watching. The 1970s Brazil team DANCED and uplifted the world. There is no comparison. Pele scored over 1200 goals, he scored many from his own half, he invented the tricks we see today, he scored with both feet and at 5'8 over 300 headers, in a time when tackling was vicious he was still untouchable. The greatest by a mile.
Just for the record, Pelé didn’t officially score 1,283 goals. Pelé did score 1,283 goals, but 526 goals came in unofficial friendlies and tour games. He even counted games he played for the Sixth Coast Guard in the military competition. He officially scored 757 goals in 812 games.
I'm in love with him ! He is a living example of what a human being is capable of, just like Airton Senna. But, Pele is bigger. When he started he didn't have the conditions of Senna etc. But it doesn't matter, I'm in love with him too! He was the best at what he did, just like Pelé! And I was here thinking. When a famous person dies, but without expression like Pele, with time the admiration ends, new generations will not know everything about it, until it disappears from memory; But Pele, oh Pele. With you it's different! Until the time of death, I think, you chose, just like you did when you stopped playing football. He followed what his holy father said: Come out on top!!! And then, I knew how to profit from it, in business and in life. Oh, when new generations arrive, you chose to play on the team up there. And then, something explodes here! At the right time, in the right generation, what you did is remembered, applauded, admired again!! And the new generations, more and more transformed him into myth, legend, history... Ah Pelé! You deserve to be playing for Heaven's team now!! And it's also time for Heaven to manifest itself and become champion with your help... 2 x 1 in Hell would be fine! We need it so much right now. Humanity needs it! We count on the coach God and you, Pelé! Amen!
He did absolute WONDERS during his time represented black folk during very trying times and impacted football in such a phenomenal way he will literally just NEVER be forgotten and his 1200 career goals 3 world cups and being the youngest to ever score in a WC final will fosho stand the test of time MAY THE KING REST WITH THE STARS🙏
For Edson Arantes do Nascimento ❤😢 Within the span of just eleven days, the football world has experienced one of its greatest moments of joy & celebration and perhaps its greatest moment of sorrow & loss. We shed tears of joy with Argentina, and today we shed tears of sorrow with Brazil.
Rest in power, dear king. He found his star. He lived his life in its full light with great humility and wisdom. He excelled and and had no regrets @2:51. A lifetime well spent! Talk about his being able to fulfill his promise to his dad who cried after losing the world cup. He did it thrice for his old man and country! Shine like Pele
None before and none after a one of a life time genius. Bob Marley to reggae Da Vinci to arts and Pele to football. God chose them with a one of a kind talents never to be repeated . Let the king rest peacefully .
