Pele was a king on that time, it doesn't matter if people are better today, Pele made football big and interesting for Brazilians and that's why he's the king.
Pele? The BEST. Balance, speed, perfection with both feet, heading skills, making (international-class!) defenders look like fools, a smooth running style like gliding and 1200+ goals. I've watched football for 60 years, no-one in his class.
@@suipig8701 yeah i think. That football was played with love to the shirt, not for money like today. Besides, Franz Beckenbauer, Bobby Moore, Djalma Santos, Lev Yashin played that time and are fsr better than any defender today.
@@arturoliveira9522 Check the clips back. Football has evolved really hard. New trainings. If you think the defenders back then we're better than you have to check your football knowledge. Look clips back of pele. 1 fakeshot and the defenders went to the other side of the world
-João Saldanha(Brazil's coach in 1969): "If you ask me who the best fullback in Brazil is, I'd say Pelé, if you ask me who the best half-back or winger is, I would say Pelé. He is probably even our best goalkeeper. He is like no footballer ever has been, or is ever likely to be."
What I love about this video is, after almost every goal we see him jumping in celebration almost the same way each time, it's as if what each goal means to him never diminishes in value. Respect.
1:44 This proves that Pele was the best the pitch conditions at the time were shocking, they were bumpy, wet, uneven, and not even cut properly! Some Referees were racist and biased. If pele was playing now he would be the best as he will be 100 times better because of amazing training facilities and and he will be at top fitness.
1. In Pele’s time the best league in the world was the Brazilian where all the world champions of 1958, 1962 and 1970 played all their career. Very few players went to play in Europe, like Altafini(Mazola) and Amarildo who were benchers for Brazil and surpassed by Pele but became top scorers and legends when they went to play for Juventus and Milan. Very few south americans played in Europe, nothing like toda. Pele surpassed all those legends that played for Brazil and played in the combined Brazilian league(Rio-SP championship, and Taca Brasil) where Santos faced the best teams from all Brazil. That says a lot about his worth. Maradona surpassed who? Valdano and Burruchaga lol. Pele also faced the best teams ever, Germany 70s, England 66-70, Italy 1970, 60s Inter, Benfica, Milan, Juventus, Real Madrid of Distefano and Puskas, Barcelona of Kocsis and Suarez, etc and many more. 2. Pele faced all those greats that Pele haters praise(contradicting themselves!) when they play for Brazil(Garrincha, Didi, Vava, Gerson, Tostao, Rivelino, Jairzinho) and beat them every time. Among Pele's victims is Botafogo (which had Garrincha, Didi, Nilton Santos, Amarildo, Jairzinho, Zagallo), Santos beat them 4-0 in Copa Libertadores 1963 and also 0-5 in the Brazilian league. Others were Rivelino's Corinthians which didn't beat Santos in a game for 11 years in a row during Pele's time!!! All those Brazilian greats were not even close to matching Pele's dominance at club level. 3. Santos won that tournament(Taca Brazilian League) 5 times in a row in the 60s, never has happened before or after! 4. Pele scored 204 goals in 195 games vs European teams, all of them Away games in Santos long Tours around the world, and beat the best defenders and goalkeepers ever: Beckenbauer, Bobby Moore, Burgnich, Facchetti, Nilton Santos, Elias Figueroa, Banks, Yashin. 5. Pele's goal ratio was even better vs European teams than vs Brazilian. Maradona’s best goal ratio was vs low division teams in Coppa Italia and in the weaker Argentinian League. 6. Santos won 2 Copa Libertadores and 2 Club World Cups and would have won more if they had not withdrawn on 3 occasions in the late 60s. Thanks to Pele Santos became one fo the best teams ever. Without him they were nothing before and after. Maradona was never even close to that. In the European Cup he was out from the first round! 7. Maradona failed in all three of his Copa America tournaments, in 1979, 1987, and 1989, the last one held in Argentina. Never even reached a Final! No excuses there, Copa America is not as hard as the World Cup and Argentina have won it more times than even Brazil. Pele was the top scorer and MVP of his only Copa America in 1959, also held in Argentina. 8. Both Pele and Maradona were Number 10s, second strikers. Pele had as many assists as his goals and if it was that easy to score in his time then why nobody else was even close to Pele's 1280 goals. Pele had as many assists and more goals and assists in World Cups: Pele: 12 goals and 10 assists in 14 world cup games Maradona: 7 goals(the 8th was hand) and 8 assists in 21 world cup games 9. Pele also has the all-time world record for most official goals(757) and 10. League goals(650). 11. Maradona could only score a lot in the weak Argentinian League. He scored 2 goals in about 20 European competition games in the 80s and 40% of his goals in Napoli were penalties.(30 of his 88 Serie A goals!) Napoli was not a weak team either, rather a team that relied on defense like most Italian teams. they had many international players like Alemao, Careca, Carnevale, Ferrara. They also faced less competition in Europe since English teams were banned from 1985 to 1990. INTERESTING FACT: Serie A goal average is practically the same(about 1.9-2.2 goals per game) in both Pele's and Maradona's era, but that doesnt make it the best league does it? In Pele's time the Brazilian League was by far the best, a League whose players won EASILY three world cups in that time(1958, 1962, 1970) 12. Maradona disappointed and failed in 3 out of 4 World Cups, Pele always performed great in the World Cup(1958, 70, 62 and 66 until his injury) scoring in all of them. In 1986 Maradona cheated and Argentina benefited from many more days to adapt to the high altitude of Mexico City than its opponents, and also given more rest days than them. These are facts. Maradona not even selected in 1978, Pele was selected in a team that was much better than Argentina’s in 1978. In 1982 Maradona was playing for the reigning champions Argentina and still disappointed. Brazil won 1962 with Pele injured, but haters don’t like to talk about 1966 when they were humiliated without Pele. In 1962 Brazil was helped by Pele in the first game to beat Mexico(Pele scored and assisted for Brazil to win 2-0) and they had continental advantage since they have never lost a game to European teams in a World Cup in the American continent since 1930 when they lost to Yugoslavia.(only lost by penalties to France in 1986) !!! The only South American team they faced was weak Chile... 13. Maradona missed important penalties(UEFA cup Napoli vs Bordeaux and Spartak, v Yugoslavia in 1990 WC). Pele didn’t, his penalties were flawless. 14. Trying to degrade the Brazilian league is typical ignorant response from people, who at the same time say that Pele’s teammates in the national team were great. Well, all those teammates played in the Brazilian league their whole life. Maradona fans always use double standard and hypothesis. Never facts. 15. Maradona's only success came in Napoli. Serie A is overrated, I mean even Verona won that league in the 80s(1985). All the rest Maradona's his career was far from impressive. 1 continental title(UEFA Cup 1989) in 21 years career!!! 16. In Argentina Maradona only won the Metropolitan League once, in 1981 with Boca Juniors and nothing with Argentinos Jr. So only 1 out of 11 tournaments from 1976 to 1982. The other tournament in Argentina, the Nacional league was of low level since it had about 10 teams from the lower division, 32 in total. Maradona had his best goal ratio in that low quality tournament. In 1985 Argentinos Juniors won the Copa Libertadores without Maradona, all the years he was there they won nothing. In 1986 River Plate won the same title, and the Intercontinental Cup, same year that Argentina won the World Cup. 17. In skills Pele was much better, no flaws, and his decision making far superior, full games show that, highlights are misleading. Pele was a much better athlete too and more consistent. Most experts also rate Pele as better than Maradona. Football is not freestyling. In football the objective is to score goals so you win matches and titles. Maradona fans describe Maradona as a "god", but he had too many flaws in his game for that, Maradona was a great playmaker, but there were many others just as good, even in his era(Zico, Platini) He had great dribbling, but if one checks his solo goals or plays in his career, very few of them were in crucial parts of a game. Pele on the other hand scored and assisted when needed the most. Maradona’s finishing was far from Pele’s, and it can be seen well in 1982 World Cup where he played in a more advanced position. His heading ability and shot power was average. Messi for example has surpassed him already in that field
@@nguyendai7436 No its just too much to read. simply - In Pele time's footballers were weaker slowers less competitive the ball was hand made, the games wasn't as serious as today. pele nowadays couldnt fit in any team. if you put Ronaldo or Messi back then it would feel like everyone there are little kids.

I also think that in modern football its harder to perform well, and Ronaldo and Messi are better than Pele. But to say that he wouldnt fit in any team today is just nonsense...

Only way to compare players of different era is to compare how dominant they were compared to other players in their own time. Just like Babe Ruth by himself hit more home runs than any other team in American League combined. Maris and McGuire broke his records but they weren't THAT dominant. No one in football history was as dominant as Pele. No one will EVER win 3 World Cups.
SOFTAIRBULLET This is just Pele's top 20 goals and I don't believe it means to say Pele's top 20 goals are the most impressive goals of all time. And scoring impressive goals doesn't necessarily mean Ibra is the best player of all time. And I was explaining why I think Pele still is the best "player* of all time because of his "achievements". Not for these goals. I would agree that Ibra did score some flashy goals.
Daniel Isaacson For the record, those who claimed MJ to be the GOAT,mostly media, have not seen Wilt play. I have never heard any legendary old guys to call MJ GOAT apart from Riley, not even Phil Jackson who said Russel is the GOAT. Go watch Wilt Chamberlain Archive and see what a dominant talent he was. Kareem who pretty much played against all the great centers and dominated(apart from Shaq, Mikan,Russel) said Wilt is easily the GOAT and Russel is the greatest winner in basketball.Wilt would not be dominant today with all his gifts and today's training, nutrition, equipment? I doubt if you have played any sport on a high level.

A beautiful description: "...Pelé defies my puny attempts to categorize him. Wikipedia describes him thus: “Pelé’s technique and natural athleticism have been universally praised and during his playing years he was renowned for his excellent dribbling and passing, his pace, powerful shot, exceptional heading ability, and prolific goalscoring.” There is no modern-day player who can boast all these attributes at the world-class level that Pelé inhabited. One could perhaps argue that Cristiano Ronaldo comes close, but if the skill set is similar, the playing style is most definitely not. Ronaldo is all stepovers and trombones; thunder and lightning condensed into a 6’1” container. But when I watch footage of Pelé, the word that comes to the forefront of my mind is deft. Pelé doesn’t smash through defenses like Ronaldo does, he fillets them. The typical Pelé goal seems to involve him weaving around three defenders inside the box with subtle little taps and drags, leaving them on the ground, the ball in the net. He is so obviously on a different level that one can choke on the air of nonchalance he leaves behind. Even his longer goals seem almost languid by comparison to the modern, Gerrardian blast that dents the crossbar and liquefies the net. Pelé’s stay about a foot or two off the ground before dipping into a bottom corner inches beyond the keeper’s desperate fingers. Maybe Pelé’s greatest accomplishment wasn’t doing what we think of as impossible, but doing the things we think of as impossible with an ease that makes them hard to recognize as such. But RU-vid can only tell me so much about Pelé. And since there aren’t many highlight videos of him fluffing chances and sending crosses over his target’s head, I cannot fully comprehend him as a player because I cannot conceive his flaws. I can look to games where Messi is buffeted and kicked across the pitch to see an example of how a player like Maradona can be neutralized; there’s no one to look to for proof of Pelé’s potential for failure. Instead of being anchored in my mind to a modern version of himself, he’s become more than merely a soccer player to me. Brazil will always mean Pelé more than it means Robinho and Júlio César and Maicon. But Pelé even transcends the greatest soccer nation in the world. To this boy, Pelé simply means soccer the way soccer should be played. That’s why Cruyff’s ruthless geometry, Maradona’s fire, and any other quality of any other player are all dwarfed by the man who lets a child retain his belief in perfection." -unknown
Pele is undenyably the best ever. Messi is next but is better than pele in some ways. Overall pele could never be beat. Ronaldo is the best ever athlete in football. But not player.
Zico in 2014: “No doubt, Pele is the greatest ever. When God built Pele, he put everything that a player needs in him. He knew how to shoot, how to dribble, how to head, be physical. He had everything that a football player needs to have. It’s difficult for someone to achieve what he has in football. Tactically, technically, physically, mentally he was the best. A lot of things that I learnt was from Pele’s sticker albums: how to head, how to shoot the ball. It was like a step-by-step guide. I learnt from Pele as a kid.” www.goal.com/en/news/7130/hall-of-fame-2014/2014/11/17/6232061/zico-pele-was-the-greatest-of-all-time
55bructrax you are absolutely right. The only person better in some ways backed up by facts is messi. I love all the facts you gave. Maradona is amazing but isnt even close to the level of messi. And even then there are some ways that you just cant argue that it is pretty much impossible to supase pele. Every other player in the top 10 are debatable but pele and messi are undeniably the real gods. And i love both ronaldos, maradona, cruyff etc. For me pele is like if you mixed ronaldo de lima and ronaldinho
@@ezraprzytyk Maradona "isnt even close to the level of Messi"?! You know nothing about football. Maradona is much much better than anybody else. Messi could be 3rd or 4th Player ever.
Imagine Pelé playing against the defenders of Betis, Valladolid, Osasuna, Almeria, Elche, Granada, Espanyol, Getafe, Malaga, Rayo Vallencano, etc. If you don't know, Pele played against great defenders like: Bellini, Luís Pereira, Franz Beckenbauer, Figueroa, Bobby Moore, etc Its necessary think in both sides.
Sergio Caimi I think you don't understand too much about football. but Bellini, Luís Pereira, Franz Beckenbauer, Figueroa, Bobby Moore, for exemple, till nowadays are considered some of the best in them funcion. Of ever! Anda Backenbauer, Figueroa and Bobby Moore are not brasilian, man.
Ok so lets say we put him to play now.He would still be world class. Not the best but world class maybe some like Aguero or Benzema.Thats crazy considering his time.Just imagine. He was playing like a football player 50 years in the future!!! Thats mind blowing give the guy credit for what he did.
You need to remember that they were playing with a shitty heavy leather ball. Not only that but the pitched were bumpy and the boots were shit. His control was absolutely insane and they he struck the ball was inhuman
If he played today, he will evolved to be still the greatest. At that time his skills set is what is required of him. Today, different level of play is required, and that is what pele did to himself.
WHAT PELE COULD DO USING 2 LEGS, THE AVERAGE HUMAN WOULD NEED 4 LEGS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pele's skill, balance, and precision are so unmatched with such FLAIR AND IMPECCABLE GRACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
If Pele was playing nowadays, he would be even better. Just look at his legs and how quick he was...all that was natural. Today he would be a flash of light going pass , the defenders would even see him
There is NO debate. You have to compare human beings in the era they perform or live. Pele was a genius, ahead of his time and changed the way the game was played. Period. for 12 years he was easily the best player on the planet. In fact, he was considered to be incomparable to other players. He also played BEFORE RED CARDS. He was attacked and hacked mercilessly. Maradona and Messi would not have been able to survive that , let alone score 1200 plus goals. Also, Pele DID tour Europe in the early 1960s and played the top teams and the CRUSHED everybody. Came out of a % year retirement and played in the NASL and was still great.
Number 1 and two are brilliant. Pele was a great player who's done things the simple way, but yet so brilliant! He is not the greatest ever for sure, but he is great you must admit that.
Pele invented skills that are used today. Imagine if he had the exposure and training facilities that players today have. He would have been even better
If soccer was weak at that time because only pelé stood out, then this time that we live football is also weak because we only have messi and cristiano, pelé is the king of football 3 times world cup champion, with only 17 years scored Twice in a world cup final, scored 743 at just 30,
Pele, always a best player in football history; he used whole body; left, right foot and also his head. Messi only a single left foot player;no heading. That is it. Pele 3 times of World Cup winner but regret Messi was empty. I am an old guy; I had seen Pele played so many beautiful game since 1962 through Movie Picture, TV and in a stadium.
Joe Castro it's funny how you even compare the poor talents of players especially goalies back than and those of today where soccer is mainstreamed and much more spectator and revered (which if you know psychology you would understand that it makes young guys more eager and compete against each other more than ever in order to prove themselves), Pele back then is like having a not bad player like Quarisma running with the ball in street game against some local amateurs that's all. the whole thing is just so human, revering the past as something can not be repeated or perfumed better like for example, that special place you have for your grandfather that you haven't seen for long.
Sam Smith Those are still just presumptions. You can't prove for certain that modern players are playing more eagerly and the game is harder unless you make the old generation play against the new. Those are just different styles of football and i am sure both have their advantages. And by the way, Messi didn't do anything memorable in this last world cup or the others before that if i remember correctly, except the goal against Iran,so Pele definitely has performed better than him in the most important tournament in the world.
Dude football was completely different in Peles time. Back than they didn't know all this skills and tricks that we now today, and people were not so physical strong. In times pele played, he was a god. No players could match his awesomeness.
Mark Spitz won 7 gold medals at the Munchen Olympic Games in 1972. He broke several world records. But his records have been evaporated ever since. They would not be enough to make an Olympic Final today. So, is it a good arguemnt to to assume that the other swimmers were lousy? No, he soundly beat the very best competion available at that time.Same apply to Pele. He soundly beat all the great defenders he faced. And I will tell you Messi fans, the defenders Pele faced were ruthless, violent and used all kind of things to stop him.. They were much better than the defenders Messi faces weekly at the Spanish League.
they were dumb no formation no sync no coordination in the last goal two of those idiots ran into eachother, most of the video i saw the defenders reacting slowly to what's going on, it was street level. And its not about the speed and strength his talent is not that great! the best in that time and probably only in that time.
First this is not the 20 best gols of Pele, see the movie PELÉ ETERNO. Pelé is so much better than other player in your time, like Messi and C.Ronaldo or even IBRA. If you are the best you are the best. Dont blame the greats players because you dont see. Look the numbers of Pele. Analysing everthing, Pele was a monster. He skills is similar a players in this time. shoot with right and left like Neymar, have explosion and strenght like Ronaldo (R9), free kicks like Pirlo and Roberto Carlos, header like Van basten, ball control like Messi and maradona plus he is the only who stop the ball um this chest perfect and he was have pace like CR7 and making many goals like Romário. He was a complete player. Sorry, of course some players is better then him in some skills but he have this skills and all others. Only word. Complete.
It’s a shame that many are hating PELE just because they are Messi or Ronaldo fans I’m a Ronaldo fan but got to admit he was the legend of the game Best of the generation atleast
Fans say all kind of silly things about what Pele would or would not do today.. I have been following football for many years. Even in today's football with do not see a player with the jumping ability that can use his head to hit the ball as well as Pele. His timing was fantastic. Just check the goal he socred aginst Italy WC1970 final.

Those saying the quality of goals compiled here either have never played serious football, or are seeing through the rose tinted spectacles of today. For the last twenty years we've been spoilt by immaculate pitches, plastic balls, better refereeing and the luxury of being able to compare with yesteryear via this medium and video. Take goal number 16. Pele receives the ball in heavy ground, closed down, thirty yards out. He feints inside and in the same movement puts the ball into the puddle...yes surface water! before smashing the ball through water, so it skims across more surface water into the bottom left hand side of the keeper's view. The defender closing him down, would not have expected Pele to shoot through the water. The goal Pele scores moving the ball between feet while turning to face the goal has not been equalled by any of today's greats. The final goal in this sequence is deceptively simple except it is a straight line run. The two defenders fearing a collision are manipulated by precise pacing of the dribble. The goalkeeper, expecting either to have fouled or delayed the run, is suddenly stranded. When people look back at players like Best, Di Stefano, Puskas and Moore, they forget the level of skills required to move different equipment around under wildly variable conditions. Listen to what great players of that time say about Pele, or Garrincha or Di Stefano. THEY know how great these goals are.
Pretty simple really. The standard of football was nowhere near it is today, speed, athleticism, fitness, quality of the pitches, balls, rules - it's a different game, in a different generation so comparing the two is unfair (We all learn about fair methodology in Science in first grade...come on) Put Messi in the squads Pele played in, and he would be the best player. Put Pele in the Barcelona squad now, and he wouldn't. Messi would be better than Pele in both generations - so technically speaking Messi is the better individual footballer dis-regarding what generation they are from. I don't care to reply to anyone, I'm making a statement not entering a debate, argue it if you want...alone.

***** You're absolutely right. This is all more appalling when observed in traditionally defensive teams like Italy. Our 50-years old tactic was to block any attack and then rely on counterstrikes or set pieces to gain the lead. Nowadays we can't stop even minor squads like Albania or Malta from pounding the goal as much as they wish. On the Pelé issue. Nobody knows how he would have fared, had he been of our generation. But nobody either knows if the Wright brothers would have got the flying license today. That doesn't make Pelé any less than the best player in football history. And remember: Italy could stop Maradona in 1982. We couldn't absolutely hinder or just slow down Pelé in 1970.
Totaly agree with you!! Brazil has only pussies in the terrain in this last 2 years...Germans really worked hard and there is the 7-1 result.Brazil good old times-gone.
Pele, sensational! And in the 1970 World Cup having several stars playing alongside and helping each other out. Here 4:15, Gérson magnificent. Gerson looked like he was putting the ball in his hand, throwing dozens and dozens of meters!
Different time, there, he was an extraordinary and disciplinary player, but he will be definitely be short against so many others like Maradona, Messi, Ronaldo,... and so many others Sport has evolved over the years
Pele was incredible! You can't compare Pele to Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, Pele was in a higher level. The only players in this generations that reached near of Pele was Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Zidane.
I have been following and enjoying football (soccer) since I was a little kid and have come to the conclusion that the best player ever has been without any doubt Edson Arantes do Nascimento (PELE), his trajectory since he became brilliantly World Cup Champion in Sweden with Brazil as a 17 years old in 1958, his clean, unquestionable and unbeatable records and his fine performances outclassing other great players of his time for many years in a row have no match in history. Add to it the fact that in Pele's time, technology was not available to produce the balls, shirts, cleats and publicity players enjoy today as well as the rules to stop and punish opposition players that use dirty tactics and in some cases brutality against the most skillful players as we have today. Pele is the best of all.
+Connor Ledger close but I would still say that Pele is a little better because of Heavier leather ball back then and no red cards. Both are great players though and it is hard to compare players from two different eras. Just imagine if Cr7, Messi and Pele were on the same team 😳
Chance The Rapper Pele is the best man. Pele's weak ability tells the story. He was not a human. there is a video in youtube " Pele did 50 years back " watch it and you will become Pele fan during the middle of video
Connor Ledger defenders have greater technical abilities, and may possibly be stronger, however defenders from pelés are we're far more vicious. There are countless clips of Pele just being kicked around but still going. This is also a problem that Maradona had to face.
***** i believe that he invented something we take for granted today, i believe that he was something different than what anyone else at that time saw before him, BUT COMPARING HIS ABILITY TO MODERN FOOTBALL AND HE BARELY MAKES THE TOP 20.
MySexy Duck é, sinto muito cara, mas o pelé é lendário cara, pode não ser o mesmo nível, mas entre 1000+ gols, voce acha que ele não tem gols melhores do que esse? pense bem, nem tudo era gravado com uma qualidade descente (i'm so sorry dude, but Pelé is a legend, it must not be the same level, but beetwen 1000+ goals, do you really think that he doesn't have better goals than this ones? just think a little bit, almost nothing was recorded with a descent quality*)
LMGames sorry i can only believe in what i see, you probably didn't see him play and can only judge by what others told you,but from what i see his movements and skill are good but not legendary
MySexy Duck well, i don't see him play, but you don't understand, he is a legend, dude, he made more than 1000 goals, maybe he could not play on the actual soccer, but on that time, he was a really legend .-.
LMGames scores back then were 10-7 or 7-2 or some 5-1 ect....scoring before defensive midfielder were invented against 3 defenders before fullbacks was not that hard.
