For anyone with PANCAKING issues….use a good squirt of Coloplast Brava Lubricating Deodorant liquid rubbed around inside the bag. Works an absolute treat!! Teddy U.K.

I watched your video on the Osto E Z Vent. They are not so easy to push through and attach. Fortunately, Respond say they can attach it for you if needed (have only tried sample bags as not got stoma yet, though have decided on a name).

Hi, I’ve just had some Pelican samples. Loved the base plate, much easier to cut than the coloplast, comfy to wear, were better for pancaking. But made my skin red where it had stuck on. 😢. Does the same thing each time I try sadly. The coloplast SM don’t do that.

Hi Elizabeth, thank you for watching. That's interesting that it makes your skin red, it does contain vitamin E which is good for the skin. Sometimes it takes out skin a little while to get used to another bag. But I wouldn't ever recommend carrying on with something if it is making your skin sore.

Hi Chris, my colostomy surgery 7 weeks ago went well and i am loving my stoma “Frieda”. i left hospital with the coloplast bags, like you i use convex, i have just tried the modavi and i must say its fantastic. i found with the coloplast my output was always pancaking but with the modavi it seems to go in the right direction ( doesnt help that Frieda is on the wonk ) im wondering if they have changed the filter as i have not experienced any ballooning what so ever. Now ive had the surgery its still helpful to refer back to your videos, thank you as always.

Hi Nicky. Thanks for watching. I think they may have changed the filter as I have been using them again and no ballooning.

@@sydneystoma385 Hi Chris. Thanks SO much for replying Hun. The ballooning issue seemed to be the ONE fault you found with the ModaVi and which you seemed most peeved about….as you really liked the bag. Could be a batch fault. Worth a retry. Alternatively the Oxmed ostomy bag range include a venting system as an integral feature. It's very effective in dealing with ballooning.

Hi there, just to make you aware the Coloplast Sensura Mio bag also has the ability to make the bag smaller. You can fold it in half and stick it to the piece where the viewing window is. Tried the pelican bag also, and had the same experience as you. If only we could add all the bits we like on each bag and make one perfect one 🙏🏻

Hi Emma. Yes I agree you can fold it up, the modaVi just does it better. Wouldn't it be lovely if we could all have our ideas on one bag! That would great.

Not keen on the clear plastic window at the bottom. Members of the public can see your actual output, as i have to wear my bag outside of my jeans/tracksuit bottoms/cargo pants, because i have a high output, rather liquid output, it wouldn't fill properly if it is trapped in the waistband of my pants. So that bottom viewing window is fully visible when i wear my bag. I do wear a cohesive ring, which is 'mouldable'. It fits to the adhesive baseplate of the bag once cut, and the adhesive back to the cohesive ring then fits to my skin around my 40mm ish stoma. The area has quite a lot of scar tissue from surgeries, so as you can imagine, it is very uneven, with valleys and hills. However, I never get leaks from that joint. It is ALWAYS the BAG, Pelican platinum, that leaks, from it's seams. I will trial these bags, but i had set my ❤ on the covatec drainable bag. It just LOOKS more sturdy. Especially with the superb Dansac flange extenders. 4 per bag. Highly recommended! I will report back with my findings. Great video btw. Brilliantly explained 👍

Chris, I'm curious if you've heard of this product being available in the U.S.? I've got a permanent colostomy. Like you, I've had difficult with Coloplast Mio product as it doesn't adhere well for me. I typically go through 1 or 2 a day and can't get in the pool and swim laps like I'm used to. I'm relatively thin but have a problem getting it to stick in the 9:00 position. It appears that the Pelican Modavi has a superior sticking ability and I'd really like to try it. Any knowledge of how to get it in the U.S.?

Thanks for the video. I too use Coloplast sensura mio and don't have any issues with them, not to jinx it! Interested in trying these bags. What size is ModaVi one you have in the video?
@sydneystoma385
@sydneystoma385 Год назад
It's the medium size one. The modaVi is a good bag. They feel better on the skin. I use a Osto ez Vent with them to manage ballooning. If you watch my ballooning video it explains what the vents are.

I love the Coloplast Sensura Mio pouches and have had almost zero problems with them. I have a very small frame so I use the mini size, and I typically change it every other day although it depends on output. My peristomal skin has been healthy for years, and I need no skin prep or alcohol to adhere/remove the pouch. My ostomy nurse said that because that pouch is intended to be changed frequently, the adhesive is gentler on the skin than other products. They’ve been ridiculously easy to adapt to wearing. My only issue is that I can have pretty thick output, and I will get pancaking occasionally. I’m not sure how to resolve that issue. I’ve played with convexity to see if that helps, I’ve tried pastes, I’ve even tried stuffing toilet paper inside the pouch in an attempt to direct output down, but none of it works. It doesn’t happen frequently, thankfully. I’m always interested to hear about new products, so I appreciate your video very much. Thanks!

Hi. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment. I also can have very thick output and have suffered with pancaking. Convex bags stopped it for me. I plan on reviewing other bags in the future.

@@sydneystoma385 Thank you! It is always helpful to hear from other folks with ostomies, because we live it day to day. I really appreciated your detailed experience with the pouch, as I could easily see how it might or might not work for me. Have you used stoma protectors at all? I’d be interested in comparing notes with you if you have. My daughter has a horse and I often go to the barn with her to watch her ride and to dote on our horse. I wanted some protection for my stoma just in case our horse gets rambunctious. I’ve used the stoma dome for about a year and a half, but only when I’m at the barn. It’s okay, but I have some minor quibbles with it.

Hi Vikki. I completely agree. The ballooning let's this bag down so much. It looks good, feels good, but ballooning is a problem. I do still use them occasionally, generally if my skin is sore, but yes I use the coloplast 99% of the time.

My stoma nurse gave me two ModaVi to try for my ileostomy stoma. She gave them to me because I was cutting tabs out at the edge of my leaky Senso Mio16606 similar to what the ModaVi has. I was hoping that the cutouts would mold to my stomach better. Later another nurse said that I need the Senso Mio 16626 which she said is harder/thicker. For me it's working much better and I change it every 3-4 days. I'm not sure I want black and the bag looked like it couldn't hold so much as the SensoMio. Also it looked strange to put the filter so low down. Looked like it could get clogged up?

That's the thing, we all have different shapes and body sizes so what might work for might not work for others. The sensura Mio that I use all the time is a good bag. I do like the black of the modaVi. Thanks for watching.

After having countless pancaking and leakage with he Senso Mio pouch I am reviewing the Pelican Modavi again. The trouble I find with the Senso Mio is that the output seems to gather in the arch void above the stoma and also in the voids around the edge of the stoma, thus blocking the stoma's output, especially if the output is thick. It just wont go down. Yes I do put baby oil in the first time in the pouch when fitting a new one, but that can only work on the first emptying. I like the Pelican as it doesn't seem to pancake as much and the large viewing window is helpful to see what is going on. However, I really don't like the method of emptying. If I open the spout the output can contaminate your hands and is not easy to clean as the Senso Mio is. Am I doing it wrong?
@sydneystoma385
@sydneystoma385 Год назад
Hi Michael. In terms of emptying I don't use drainable bags, I used closed bags. If your output is thick I am surprised you are using drainables as that must be difficult to empty the bag. Do you also use convex bags? Do you have a colostomy or ileostomy?
@michaelhillier1377
@michaelhillier1377 Год назад
@@sydneystoma385 Hi Thanks for the reply. I have an ileostomy pouch. The drainable Senso Mio is OK, but as mentioned the arch void on top of the stoma and at the sides encourages output to congregate there and is difficult to remove, even with oil. This results in pancaking and leakage especially while sleeping. I am trying the Pelican and like the style and openness of the viewing widow to see what's going on, but it's so messy trying to empty it. It soils fingers and gloves.
@sydneystoma385
@sydneystoma385 Год назад
The Pelican bag as you say does have a great viewing video. I am glad you are not getting pancaking. When I had to take laxitive type products to clear a blockage I used the pelican drainables. I also found it was very difficult to empty without making a mess. I have a good relationship with Pelican so I can feed this back to them.

Avoid nuts, mushrooms and any foods that are NOT easily digestible and that DO NOT DISSOLVE. REMEMBER….If you eat a food that doesn’t dissolve, you need to chew, chew, CHEW….and drink plenty of fluids (not wine or beer…Lol). I had a blockage once from eating MUSHROOMS…..it was horrific…soooo painful. Thankfully it managed to clear itself before I was ready to go to the hospital!! Mushrooms don’t dissolve. I love mushrooms - so I am VERY careful when eating them now. Nuts can scratch the inner walls of the intestine and can cause blockages….as can SWEETCORN, which clogs up and does not dissolve much. Hope this helps. Teddy U.K.
