Another great video. I always smile when you show the targets to show you havent cheated. You definitely dont seem like the type of fella to cheat! Thanks for taking the time to post these pellet tests. Have a great weekend and take care.

Cheers Paul, I try to do the videos etc in one take with zero editing. I've watched some channels where I'd question the results down range and it makes me wonder why the channel presenter felt the need to cheat as such. The only person they're cheating is themselves as anyone who knows anything about shooting can see when results have been doctored. For me it's all about personal integrity and I try my best to show the real world results. Cheers buddy, hopefully you'll find next week's videos of the 35/57/95 and 97 useful. 👍👍👍

Great video Vin! I’m so glad you said that every barrel is different because it’s absolutely true! we tried some H&N Terminator today in my HW 100 . 177 I don’t usually like gimmick type pellets but at 30meters on a windy day they were pellet on pellet. My son tried some Webley power Pell in his HW100bp .22 and they were extremely accurate too. Like you say try as many different types as possible 👍🏼

Cheers mate. There's two pellet types that are really surprising me at the moment and that's the H&N Sniper Light and the RWS R10 Match, just goes to show you have to try all pellets not just the mainstream ones 👍👍👍

Thanks Buddy! I,m looking forward to the test with the HW97. Very interested after those results. You're right, never hunt with pellets without testing them first.

Thanks buddy. Bloody wind played havoc with the groups today, both the Superdomes and HW FT Specials put 3 pellets in the same hole then the wind spoilt it all and gave lateral dispersion, but hey ho that's real life shooting for you. I'm definitely going to re run these tests in the summer months on a nice still day. 👍👍👍

Thanks again Vin, understand exactly what you are saying about each rifle is different but it is a good starting point. It would be very easy to spend the cost of a new rifle on pellets trying to find out blind. Got my HW 77 out today after yesterday’s video, 30 yds 5 shots all touching almost lol. That is really good for me and with practice, I could improve on that 🙏 your group yesterday was fantastic. I would just like to say how greatfull l am that you are prepared to use you time to help people that you don’t even know. Not a lot of people about today that would, I am also one 👍🏻

You're welcome Ian. It's like this for me buddy, when I started covering shooting on the channel I said one of my main aims was to help people shoot springers well because as we all know when you shoot well you enjoy it more and the more you enjoy doing something the better you get at it. So if I've helped you or anyone else shoot even a little better I've achieved one of my goals for the channel. Thanks very much for the comment my friend 👍👍👍

Interesting to see the JSBs didn't group so well, they tend to be a solid performer along with Air Arms Field. RWS Hobby are a good standard pellet for chrono testing springers and while they're not the highest quality line of pellets from RWS they represent good value for money. I find they are good for lower power old rifles like my BSA Cadet and air pistols so I will always keep tins of them. In theory flatheads don't group well at distance, being more affected by higher velocity and wind although your results with RWS R10 Match pellets tell a different story.

I had a 20 odd year break from shooting, life got in the way, like it does sometimes & the gun spent all that time in a wardrobe (or 4). So when I started up again (during Lockdown) I phoned Drapers, asking 'Them' to send me 3 tins of pellets that 'They', thought would go well in the Vulcan. They sent the Superdomes, most likely with the same, "Train of Thought" as yours.

If you can find some old Eley Wasps (not the new Wasps junk) I'd recommend trying those. I've never known a Webley or BSA shoot them badly 👍👍👍

Great video Vin - I've never tried H&N FT's only the FTT's - so guess what, A trip to my suppliers this morning for a tin to try. However as you rightly say, each barrel is Different and the only way is to test, test & test. I've got 3 HW98's and they all prefer different pellets - H&N FTT's. JSB Exacts(but only in 4.53) and QYS Domes. However all 3 are incredibly accurate if I do my bit. Have a great weekend.

Nice one buddy. Think the pellets I've been most impressed by so far have been the RWS R10 Match and the H&N Sniper Light, now these haven't been the most accurate but they're only a few mm away from the top ones. 👍👍👍

spot on mate to be fair i have not found a rifle that shoots those hobby’s at all always all over the place and i have tried them though a few guns even at 20 yards looks like i have tried to form i clock face and big ben at that 🤣🤣🤣

I've one rifle that shoots Hobby's very nicely indeed...but you'll have to wait until next week's video for that 😉 I'd love to find some old H&N Z&S wadcutters to try out. My old .22 HW77 shot them superbly. Pinching the clock face and big Ben saying mate...superb 🤣🤣🤣🤣

My cheap Remington Express springer shoots the RWS Super H-points pellet on pellet up to 25 yards. Technically different from the Hobbies I know but they are similar.

The Superdomes, shoot well through my, Birmingham Made, .22 Webley Vulcan & are my "Go To" pellet. As you say though, they might be rubbish in another gun, even of the same make. It's also possible to have an "Off Day" & blame the pellets so maybe it's better to try the same pellets again on another day ?
@vincentenglish8489
@vincentenglish8489 6 месяцев назад
Superdomes seem to do well in most old school British gun barrels, kinda makes me think maybe the old BSAs and Webleys were alot less pellet fussy. Thanks for the comment buddy 👍👍👍

Hi, a nice video, well done but just an isolated presentation. Me and my friends from the Field Target Club have been shooting with weihrauch air rifles (HW 30,35,77,97,98) for over 40 years. With the JSB exact and the H and N FTT we have always had the best results (since they were on the market) both privately and in competitions internationally....... (It could also be down to the shooter) Therefore the most important thing: Everyone has to “shoot” for themselves which diabolos suit them and their rifle! Best regards and keep it up! Matthias and friends
@vincentenglish8489
@vincentenglish8489 6 месяцев назад
Exactly that my friend. I can't stress enough the importance of trying various different pellets until you find the perfect match for the rifle you're using. Yesterday I shot a five round group with RWS Superdomes which was the same size as a .22 pellet however the JSBs exacts were second from bottom in the pellets tested. Just shows how vital it is to match the pellet to the individual rifle and not be coerced into one brand or another just because that's the popular pellet at that moment in time. Great comment buddy 👍👍👍

I haven't come across any LRG for a while now, when I do I'll see how they perform. To answer your question nope, no cleaning the barrel or for that matter no pellet sorting either, just straight out of the tin and down the barrel 😉

Hi Vin, do you know an easy way of telling if a barrel bore is "Choked" (i.e. Tapered) or "Parallel" bored) ? The user manuals on all the guns that I've owned/own, don't say. It can be important to know, should one be contemplating using Slugs or whether indeed to discount using slugs altogether based on that factor. (I'm Not thinking about using slugs myself, as I'm of the opinion that they are mainly the preserve of FAC, although some, lighter slugs Might be OK) (ish) Probably wouldn't recommend trying to shove a pellet down the bore to see if it tightens up though !!
@vincentenglish8489
@vincentenglish8489 6 месяцев назад
I'm sorry buddy I don't. Most springers are crowned or recessed at the muzzle which would make for a fiddly job whatever way you went about checking for choke. Off the top of my head I can't really think of any choked airguns other than the old Anschutz 335. Slugs seem to be the domain of FAC rated PCPs. I've some opinions on slugs that might upset people maybe I should zip it on that one 😉👍👍👍

Something I’ve always wondered when pellet testing is whether it’s would be worth shooting 10 of a certain pellet to acclimatise the barrel to that lead composition before testing that make?
@vincentenglish8489
@vincentenglish8489 6 месяцев назад
That's a very fair point Rich. In theory the barrel should be cleaned out before each pellet brand and then as you say leaded in with the make you intend to test. In practice however how many shooters do you know have the time and inclination to do so. There are so many other variables to take into consideration as well ranging from atmospheric pressure, wind deflection to just the shooter having a bad day. You could really drive yourself bananas trying to replicate exact conditions. In reality you need to work of averages and see what works best. Great stuff buddy 👍👍👍
