I enjoy taking my springers apart, one of the most frustrating shortages in this sport is the lack of a factory produced and shop sold spring clamp, I use a long g clamp and I have had many springs go flying accross the room.!!! Your brothers work is excellent, there are so many YT maintenance videos with a million different home made designs, yours is by far the best I have seen. PS, I have the 220 compact, would be good to see your review of it, weight, size and accuracy is similar to my HW30. Thanks for the video.
Thanks, Peter. Air Venturi makes an interesting design that clamps onto the scope grooves of the rifle. I imagine that it's limited to certain designs, but it should be useful on most springers. www.pyramydair.com/product/air-venturi-rail-lock-spring-compressor?a=7764 The 220 video will be delayed a little, but we'll get to it very soon. Thanks as always, my friend.
He made a great job of that vice did your brother Kevin, looking forward to your Cometa review, I'm a great fan of Cometa who are underrated. They do not have the best finish, and like Diana have those awful huge plastic foresights (Fusion excepted) but mine are genuinely as, if not more, accurate than any of my others.
Yeah, fortunately, I'm in Southern New England, and I'm usually spared the severe amounts of snow that some parts of Maine receive in a season. Thanks for watching, my friend. .
Kevin, I never thought I'd get so interested in a spring vice, wow that's a great bit of engineering, especially from your brother when he wasn't into airguns, that's a great bit of kit too own, very safe especially with those powerful springs. I'd say in 100 years from now some guy will be looking at it in a shed or old workshop and wondering, what the hell it is.😂. Great video as always. 👍
I actually sent an email to Jon at keystone air gus the other day about a cometa 400 usc , I do love a carbine barrel , will pick one up when they get them in stock , I need another carbine like I need a hole in my head 😂
That's the thing about these springers, Peter....They're habit forming. Jon's a terrific guy. He'll treat you right. Congratulations on your upcoming acquisition.
Cool ,I remember putting an Ox spring in a BSA Airsporter ,me and my bro faught with that pointed back plug for hours buy had ,we got it in, but boy, it chewed up our hands 😂😂
I can imagine. Those BSA rear, tapered receiver plug / trigger groups are nearly impossible to install even with a spring compressor. A good friend and subscriber made a custom jig for me to use on those BSAs. See 11:10 on this video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qe7wSd67pEs.htmlsi=jf4pTVeh4mI221xi It's worth its weight in gold.
Thanks, Peter. You've got a point. There is definitely a niche for a quality mainspring compressor. However, I'm not the guy who's gonna fill that niche. 🤣 Thanks as always, my friend.
That's very cool , unfortunately I have to make do with one from harbor freight, I strengthened it with wood in the center of the aluminum frame . The threaded part is not nearly long enough especially for the diana air rifles . With those I put them on the edge on my bench push and put a screw driver in then I put it in the sash clamp wind it in remove the screw driver and put the pin in . It's a lot easier than trying to push it on the edge on the bench and trying to get the pin in at the same time. I really should make a decent one , yours looks perfect
That's great compressor - any springer, any time! That said, I really want to know more about the Cometa...! Looks like the model that compares to an HW30...
Great video Kevin, as usual 😁👍 Nice to see you back around....thanks for the heads up on Keystone Airguns; just got off the horn with John and he seems like a very nice (and knowledge) fellow 👍 Your brother sounds like a buddy of mine: very mechanically inclined & can work on or build anything.... I'm the total opposite! 😅😁 BTW, tried the alcohol cleaning patch trick - it does work, but I honestly think Ballistol does a better job overall for me, especially on a gritty, grimy new barrel.... appreciate the tip though 👍🙂 Hope you and your family are well these days, and I look forward to your future content Kevin 👍👍
@@razor1962 Thanks Kevin. I told Jon he should start giving you commissions on sales 😅😂😁👍 I ordered a 220 Galaxy in .22 from him that should be on the way now...👍 Take care Kevin.& thanks again for the great channel work.
@natesmith5393 Congratulations on your new rifle, Nate. Jon is truly a terrific guy, and he knows his springers. My review of the Cometa 220 Compact is set to go live on Saturday at 7 pm EST. Thanks as always, my friend.
You can buy a shas clamp , all metal and works in the same way , builders use them for clamping wide material . In the UK around £ 15 pounds , I use one for my air rifle repaires and maintenance work .
That certainly does work, Neil. I had gotten several requests on details about my spring compressor. Hence, the video. I've seen some very ingenious designs over the years.
That's great, Pedro! Jon's business is really picking up. He's doing a great job and offering a hard to find line of fine air rifles. Thanks for watching, my friend.
hey kevin i missed your videos my friend and im happy you returned , the 220 cometa its cool model and the trigger reminds me the diana t01 ,can you please tell me whats the barrel diameter of the cometa 220 its 15mm or 16 ?? im askin because i want to buy a used moderator like that but i cant find any info
Hi, Steve. So far, I'm rather impressed with the 220. It's a lot of airgun for the price tag. My barrel OD measures 14.75mm. Thanks as always, my friend.
No such thing as a bit robust! I've got a toolbox my Dad made (from sheet steel) that is heavier than the tools in it, and lots of very chunky tools from the late 1940s/50s that are of incredible quality and durability. I always smile when I use them.
Hi Gibster. I'll be doing some teardown videos, but I don't do outside work anymore. Between running a full-time business, enjoying a family life, and keeping the channel running, I've got very little time for much else, I'm afraid. Thanks as always, my friend.
Now that's a good tool. I am curious, is that "threaded rod' , just that a 'threaded ro with SAE thread, or is it acme thread? Would you and or your Brother mind if I made one like this. From what you've shown here, I can duplicate one of these for my use, but I'd rather have the blessings of the builder first.
@@razor1962 Thank you very much. I'll have no problems making this, but in case I run into any difficulty, I too am lucky enough to have a brother like you have. :)
Many folks have fashioned jigs that employ a device that I've always called a "pipe clamp." I'll bet that it's the same as what you refer to as a "sash clamp". This is what I'm referring to: Pony Jorgensen 52 Pipe Clamp, Fixture for 1/2-Inch Black Pipe, Pack 1 a.co/d/7JkBwG0
