Thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable video. I always find it interesting to see how people organize and store their supplies. You gave me some great ideas for keeping my pens and supplies as I tumble further down this fountain pen rabbit hole.
That's some serious storage you have going on there, not to mention the all beautiful Pens!! I have a quick tip for anyone looking for some additional inexpensive storage - old wooden Silverware / cutlery canteens are great, the dividers for the various forks, knives, spoons etc. do a good job to slot your pens into. I have one that holds at least 20 pens between the 2 drawers in it, which I found at a flea market for less than $20.
I’ve finally reached the point where I know I should invest in a nice storage case for my pens. This video reminds me it’s time to skip a pen and buy a case because right now I keep them in a pen box that they came in.
Thanks for sharing your storage solutions! I am constantly revisiting my storage, and you certainly encourage me to finish some of my projects and let go of what isn't working quite right. Note: trays from gopens can be cut into cigar boxes, I keep a tray of pens in my living room with a pen liner (to try and keep my inked pens down to 12 or so). Great video!
Thank you for sharing your storage ideas. Although the Trinity Wood box price has increased, Harbor Freight lists an eight draw wood tool chest for about $80 that might be converted for storage.
I wish I could attach an image, but for storing a dozen pens in an easy to see arrangement, I recommend a crystal “frog” that’s usually used for plants. If you get one with deep enough holes, you can store/display 13 pens.
David, thanks for sharing this, really fascinating. A tip for anyone else, I am currently storing inks in cases that my wife gets as "gifts" when purchasing cosmetics, they do not hold nearly as much ink as the Alex drawers but at least they are together (granted I do have less ink than you).
I've got a few of those vape stands from the old Ego days (that's the type of vape gear they were designed for - not used/seen much anymore which is why the stands are *very* cheap when you can still find them). However, the ones I've got are made of silicone, and it never occurred to me to repurpose them for pen storage! Thanks for that idea, it's a great one for anyone willing to track one down or who was vaping circa 2013 or before. :) Lots of other great options here I hadn't considered, as well. Thanks for taking the time to show us.
Thanks for sharing - another alternative for desktop storage is to use those wooden test tube racks, which are available on Amazon and aren't too expensive.
I love the Ikea Alex. I just bought a used one from Craigslist and have it next to my desk for cable storage/computer storage/pen storage. Nobody else seems to make anything close to it.
Your collections are so organized! I've yet to figure out what kind of system would work for me - didn't have to worry about it in the beginning as I didn't plan on getting into this hobby THIS deep. What do you do with the original boxes? Do you have a closet full of 'em? Knowing that I will never sell my pens, I've learned to throw out/recycle unimpressive ones, but the beautiful leather ones from Montblancs, Pilots and Viscontis are difficult to part with.
I have several large boxes full of packaging in my garage. Last weekend, I threw away the vast majority. Only keeping the nicest/most special. It was difficult to let them go, but necessary to clean up clutter. You can see my Instagram feed for a picture of some boxes in the trash.
That is QUITE the collection. I'm (Pelikan) green with envy! I'm going to save this video to show my wife on the admittedly rare occasions when she gives me the stink eye about "maybe just ONE more pen..."!
2 years late, but Did I see some Airmail Wality 69T and 71JT in that 48 pen case? Love from India. I love watching your videos although the most expensive Fountain Pen that I own is an approx. $7 Parker Vector Metallix available in the Indian Market.
Amazing video.. kindly help us also how to organize our collection digitally; that excel file you promised to update it to carry 100+ pen... you are sooooo inspiring and we can’t thank you enough David =)
May i ask what you do for a living? Do you use these pens for work? I am new to this the last person i saw that had similar collection on youtube inks comics.
Wow that is going to be some summer project lol seriously though pen storage and maintenance have always been a concern thank you very much for the information and insight into ideas that I may or may not thought of using.
Is that an IUPUI t-shirt you're wearing? As in Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis? If yes, is that your alma mater? Just curious as I went to that campus for half of my IU classes. 👍🏻
Thanks for this tour! I really loved it! One question: I did not understood the name of the ink brand whose bottles looks like liquor.. not the Akkerman but the others. Thanks!!!!
Is there a list somewhere of all those storage boxes? I missed that somehow. would be really helpful. From my experience I have to say that there is a lot if cheap shit ot there on Ebay and amazon and I find it really annoying to store alle my precious in there...
There is a link to the Wancher case in the notes below the video. The two-drawer case is made by Wolf. If you search for "Trinity wood toolbox", you will be able to find that one as well.
I always thought Figboot on Pens tested all these pens, but didn't keep them because he didn't enjoy them or like most reviews on RU-vid just had the pens on loan. How wrong I was. If the review was positive, good chance the pen or ink was good enough for him.
They are something no longer available. You should check out the Col-O-Rings...the same thing, but higher quality paper. You can use them for ink swatches.
