Penang Hill is just over 800m in height. Up until the last upgrade, the Penang Hill Railway was quite a bit slower than the one you had a ride on. The new railway is up to 5 times faster. The main stations have been substantially upgraded to accommodate the higher number of tourists visiting the Hill these days. There are other ways of going up Penang Hill, one of which is hiking up the various trails at the north end of the hill. It takes a couple of hours but it's a good challenge if you are up for that sort of thing. Also, at the north end, there is a road going up the hill. I do not remember how long it's been there but it's there. Not sure if cars can make it up and besides, only resident's vehicles are allowed up there. I don't live there anymore but whenever I go back, there are new things I learn that I never knew about Penang. Hope you had an enjoyable trip.
Suppose to be asia's first but the british decided hong kong gets it first to victoria peak. However, penang hill is the longest funicular in asia at almost 2km.
