I went to Penang in 1972 to continue my secondary school education. Penang then was really serene, peaceful and the islanders most friendly and helpful. Things were easy going then and the foods were fantastic. A plate of char koey tiau with 3 delicious fresh prawns was only 60 sen. There were mobile hawkers with carts on wheels going around selling foods. Cars were few then. We were able to do fun bicycle trips round the island, without having to worry about the risk of being run over by cars. Balik Pulau then was really 'back of the island'! Those were lovely and unforgettable days on Penang Island

So wonderful to see your parents in this video. I attended your wedding, I was 12. Fantastic memories and adventures with the Rovers back in those days.

3:50 Hameediyah Restaurant, my late father took take me there since I was a kid in the 70s. I still go to Hameediyah to have a good meal everytime I went back to my wife's hometown in Balik Pulau. Penang brings back a lot of fond memories. When I was a kid, my family would go for Hari Raya shopping in Penang from Kedah during the 70s and 80s. Penang was tax free then. My father was transferred to Penang in 1974 and we live there for a year at Western Avenue. Thank you for this wonderful video.

Great footage of the Penang ferry. I think my last trip on it was sometime in 1985 before the bridge opened. Nostalgia indeed. Pity Penang has lost its charm in recent years because of rampant, insensitive overdevelopment....

It's fascinating for a young generation like me to see how does it looks like before E-gate and Tesco is constructed.

Nice to see the penang that existed before i was born. There seems to be so much ive missed out on haha. I do photography and videography, a lot of which stems from my wanderlust for the "old soul" of the island. Sad to see the way were headed is for things be replaced by the new developments... a lot of my photo haunts in the heritage area has already been rebuilt and cleansed

I'am visite Penang last year , heart bypass at Adventist Hospital Burma street , Georgetown..

I actually know Mr Lawrence and Guat Chu, they used to live near Pulau Tikus. Guat Chu was an English language teacher...

8:45 that's the place i'm spend a lot of time when live over there on 1986, the jetty still a good condition, now everything is gone..
