It's so much worse in the books with her mom. In book 4, spoilers for book readers/viewers by the way... when Colin asks her mom for permission to marry "her daughter" while physically holding onto Penelope, she somehow instantly assumes Colin means her other single daughter Felicity. (The show doesn't have her.) When Colin states he obviously doesn't mean Felicity, she literally goes, "Mr. Bridgerton, I don't understand?" He calls her out on outright dismissing Penelope, which was beautiful.

I am fully on board with Polin for S3. I want to see Pen go into her reputation era. Better fitting gowns, more flattering hairstyles, and confidence for days. I want to watch Colin lose his damn mind over Pen slighting him the way he did to her for years. This is gonna be so good!!!!
Their love is literally friends to lovers. He is meant to be oblivious to treat with the same respect as a friend. It takes colin like 12 years in the books to finally notice penelope and it is not because she loses weight or stops wearing yellow it is because one day he woke up and realized she had always been there that she was something way more to him than just a friend. Their love is not the other Bridgertons love it is a slow burn a love that will last as it is years in the making. They grow and change together making their feelings for eachother so strong and solid it is the best kind of love.

Something did happen. The relationship was escalating in a good way with the short but intense stares and seeking each other out. But then Colin fucked it up. Granted Colin wasn't quite where Penelope was, but as her friend he shouldn't have said what he did.
I want Colin to eat the very words he spoke to his friends regarding Penelope! I hope the show gives Penelope Justice because in the book he gets to her so easily. I want her to make him suffer. To grow indifferent to his presence, to be just Colin as he would refer to her and that he notices the change and grows jealous as to who has occupied his place in her heart and mind. Spoilers for the book: ... ... ... ... ... ... ... All it took for Colin after 12 years is one cut to his hand, few compliments on his writing, and getting rejected by her to dance. On the other hand, all it took for Penelope was one laugh after her bonnet "knocked him out of his horse". Bt perhaps that fall lefft Colin with some head trauma which would explain these years. Quick question: I only read book 2, 3 and 4 so far. I know that Benedict realized in book 3 that Pen had feelings for Colin, Pen deduced that Eloise knew of her crush and we can deduce that Violet knew as well. Do we know anything about Anthony for example, or someone else who was not blind for all these years?

YES. I actually wrote a whole Tumblr post about what I want in S3 of Polin. The main things being her brutally calling him out on laughing at her (and cutting him out of her life for a while to teach him a lesson) and for her to find one serious suitor who genuinely likes her - forcing Colin to realize his feelings by getting jealous and recognizing what an idiot he's been. I want a scene where Colin admits he made a mistake in disrespecting her and he'll spend the rest of his life trying to make up for hurting her.
Now that I think about it, Colin would suffer if he falls in love with Pen (in the show) especially when he knows that Pen is Whistledown. And we know what whistledown did to him, Marina and Eloise in the series. Because in the book, he was like "Oh you are Whistledown? Cool!" 😅
I think she needs to start being a little more standoffish (just a pinch 🤏 ) to people. The whole shy overly nice wall flower thing isn’t helping her. Needs to be more assertive.
Book spoilers ahead* The Bridgerton’s share one brain cell when it comes to their own love lives. Colin, you beautiful, stupid himbo! But I love Colin and Pen! Polin will be the death of me, I swear. I’m really gonna need him full on groveling for forgiveness and full on sexual desire and devotion. And as much as I adore that Pen asks Colin to kiss her in the books, I really REALLY hope that the show changes that particular plot point. I would love for Colin to be completely swept up in a moment and kiss her first, without being asked. Both show and book Penelope deserve that. 💙💛side bar: their color palette is so Belle and the Beast, and I am soooo here for it!
*Things I'd like to see about Polin next season* Pen to call Colin Mr Bridgerton. Pen to refuse him a dance. Pen to have half of her wardrobe changed to more bold colors with crisp fitting, fluttering sparkles. Modernly styled hair, jewels crusted on her redhead curls, her gown designed to highlight her ample bosom (Maybe Madam Delocraux can do wonders) Paired with modest shawls and endearing laces. Add on few frilly Bridgerton blue or Sapphire blue gowns. An all new second/third son of duke/earl/baron--someone totally eligible and bigger in status than Colin--to show interest in Penelope. Pen to treat Colin with all the indifference she can muster. Pen to laugh at new suitor's jokes and dances all in front of sulking Colin. Pen to be fully open for courting, like receiving flowers, going on ride in Hyde Park in phaeton, not individual riding, Pen doing waltz with him, Pen fully on flirting mode. Confused, fuming and jealous Colin to drown on drinking. Him visiting Feathrington house more to talk to Pen. Her refusing him visit. Colin to sulk more to see Pen and his suitor living the day of their lives. Enter more wheels. More Mr. Bridgerton talk. More of Pen asking Colin not to call her Pen anymore as it may confuse and give wrong impression to her suitor. Enter some really angry Colin and his *inability* to eat. And concentrate. Long time wallowing in sorrow ensues. Not able to travel. Hating London more. Heartache. Pain. Difficulty in breathing. More alcohol. More smoking. No shaving. No eating. No peace. More frustration. More stalking. Violet notices change in Colin's behavior. Anthony kind of fills her in for everything going on. Wheels turning in her head. Enter Pen's POV where how she's having the time of her life, is finally getting noticed by someone who is eligible enough to marry her, but still she understands her feelings for Colin are way deeper and to let go of them would not be an easy path. Her desperation to be loved and also not to hurt her suitor because she'd never be able to love him as she love Colin would propel her in direction to ultimately refuse his proposal. Colin seeing Pen alone with his suitor finally loses his sanity, drags her out of there. In the garden. Doesn't care about shouting Penelope who throws somehthing about propriety to his face. He's half wit anyway, he knows. She can do all the thinking. While he can just revel. In this feeling. In this consuming fire. In this moment. Revel in her presence. Revel in her grace. Revel in her taste. Revel inside her. Too soon he's doing everything he's been denying himself for a whole month of seeing her dancing around with some random chap. He's breathing her in, taking all she's protesting against, her silk gown slipping too easily with his deft fingers. Her sighs, her moans too much of a music to be regarded as mere refusal on her side. He cradles her, feelings rushing to his flushed body, too intense to be kept away for any more longer. His tongue laps her, her screams twinkling around him, her undoing becomes his divination. He revels in this satisfication for once. I would love that but maybe not next season bc it will be Benedit's and if it all these things happens theres no material for season 4 yk. I really can't wait for their season
unpopular opinion: I don´t ship this two. the loyal, constant and unbreakeable bond thingy... she deserves better and he deserves a slap in the face with a chair
It is not an unpopular opinion a lot of us think Penelope deserves better than Colin. He is STILL hung up on Marina. He does not see Penelope as a romantic interest only as a friend as he said.

If he had just said that she was his friend and nothing more after their last dance it would have hurt a lot but not as sucky as what he actually said.

OK I really hope they stick to the order of the books because their relationship doesn’t even really kick off for another 10 years. I love their relationship in the book it’s really smokin’ hot and Colin’s a little bit of a freak in the bedroom which I found hilarious. Also Marina is actually a cousin of the Bridgerton’s’s in the book but of course that didn’t really fit the storyline in the series.
they are my favorites... i love re-reading their book. But maybe Netflix can add some twist in their story.. how about another suitor for Pen? But of course, Colin and Pen should be end game...
With how much they changed the Viscount Who Loved Me for the show (I'm not talking about making Kate Indian, that's the least of the changes), I hope they change Romancing Mr. Bridgerton. I'd like for someone other than Colin to notice Pen, rather than Pen continuing to wait around for him. It's not so bad in the books because she's mostly in the background, but watching her pine for him rather than focus on someone who wants her sucks. Colin's book isn't as good as Anthony's in general, to begin with. So yeah. Hope the show does it better, though I'm onboard with them not doing Colin and Pen together at all.
So far only Pen and Eloise and the printer know the pen name as Lady Whistledown so it'll be interesting to see if Colin is OK with the double identity of his future spouse how the family handles it and how the featherington family feel about the town gossiper being a little closer to home than any of them had previously thought or knew....
Colin always cared, but he seemed to be afraid to admit it. He was afraid of it changing him and the dynamics of his friendship with Penelope. Those looks, the moments of letting her know that he cares deeply. Some Men are afraid to step up and leave those childish and player ways behind. When it’s true love both people feel it and want to embrace it fully.

I don't know when I read the book i see different character of pen like she is more mature and understanding plus *spoiler alert* it was Colin who discovered her secret not Eloise pen in series has different character 🤔🤔🤔
Actually that's the key point of his story, when Penelope stops seeing him with her heart in her eyes is when Colin puts his feet on the ground and realizes that all his body language and feelings were actually directed at Penelope because he loved her, but he was blinded by the bitch that Marina offered (only the first season in the second I hate her for how she treats the good Phillip Crane who is a love. I certainly look forward to the suicide of that character) and criticism of Penelope's physique, there is also the theme of Lady whistledown that generates tension and astonishment on the part of Colin towards the redhead. He loves her but he is too spoiled, blind and clueless to realize that and that is why the third season will be about them as they are ready to finish developing their love story. (Besides, there is nothing more difficult than facing the reality of emotions than when the love you were so used to is taken from you by your own actions.) ..... He knows what she means and immediately shuts it down. I read that when men started looking at her that's when he got jealous and wanted her. This is what the next season is supposed to have in it. I'm not sure if the season is out yet though. It's a shame how people continue to look over you until someone else wants you.

I hate that they made Penn so annoying in the series. She literally hurt Colin and Eloise in the first two seasons. Now they realized they can not make another series with her as a secondary character in other season without giving it straight villain content so now they MUST do Polin when it was not even the time. I know the series is not supposed to be an exact interpretation of the books, but ew! They just took everything that was likable from Penelope. In the series she's just resentful and immature.
I don’t ship them at all (which makes me sad). I do believe people can fall in love with each other later in life after being friends for years but with them.. I just don’t see it. Collin just doesn’t seem attracted to her. Chemistry is something that has to come naturally and I wonder how they will make it work in S3. I think I would’ve loved a guy that liked Penelope a little sooner more. After Marina it’s just giving rebound… like Laurie and Amy in Little Women. Seeing how smitten he was for Marina I just don’t see that happening with Penelope all of the sudden (okay.. not all of the sudden but you know what I mean). Maybe I will eat my words, especially seeing how many shippers there are here in the comments. Might see the light one day and start shipping them 😮💨. They both deserve love either way. And I can’t wait for Penelope to blossom and stop wearing yellow next season!
How can people ship this? Yes Pen is ignored by almost everyone, but she betrays the people who are her friends. (Marina, Eloise, Colin) I want her to work on her self love rather than her getting with a romantic relationship. Especially not with Colin. Poor dude is clearly not interested. Penelope needs to learn that no means no.
A lot of us ship it because we are book fans first. The show is, I was gonna say slightly, but that is not true. The show is very different but the main couples stay. So that is why. If you think about what she wrote about her friends in her LW, it is actually not bad. Lets start with Marina and Colin => as a book fan I despise this plot line, but for the sake of the discussion here. Marina was trying to entrap Colin in a marriage while already pregnant with someone else`s child. Yes she was in a difficult situation, but situation she caused by herself, she was not raped or assaulted or forced to have sex. She had sex willingly and got pregnant. Why should Colin (or anyone else) be lied to and used to make her situation ok? Penelope tried to talk her out of pursuing him, she tried to talk to Colin but neither of them listened. Do you think anyone would have believed her if she told them straight up Marina was pregnant? I don`t think so. She exposed them in LW to save Colin while putting all of the blame on her own family. Then we come to Eloise => this one is a little more complicated. However again she tried to get Eloise to see that what she was doing was dangerous, asked her to stop it. Eloise did not listen and got into trouble with the Queen. Penelope could have printed all of the information about Eloise but only chose the least scandalous that would not ruin her. And it did not. I will give you that she could have talked to Eloise and disclose she was LW, but her decision was still to safe Eloise from the Queen. Everything else she writes about is just harmless gossip, what people wear, who is courting who, who danced with whom etc. Plus she helped get rid of Nigel Berbrook in S1 so Daphne did not have to marry him. Colin`s and Penelope`s love story is based on friends to lovers trope. So of course it currently seems to many people that he is not interested in her romantically. But the producers of the show keep planting subtle actions that point to what is going to happen between them, e.g. they call each other by their first names all the time (which was not a normal thing in that time and neither Daphne and Simon or Anthony and Kate were doing from the start), he touches her hands/arms almost in every scene, they talk to each other more than to others, stand very close, he seeks her out the same if not more than she does him. It is not about him not being interested, it is about him slowly realizing that he in fact is interested, that he sees her differently, that he is falling in love with her, that he respects her and wants to protect her. And once he does he becomes the most devoted and loving partner to her. And that is the beauty of their story, the slow burn love that lasts for lifetime.
I'm sorry but I don't love Penelope so yeah, she can keep being single as far as am concerned. She betrayed her friend, literally runs the gossip column of the town and her saving grace to me is that she runs a successful business but like, girl, get yourself someone of your own instead of making profit off people's drama.
