Penelope Is The Diamond! | Watching **Bridgerton** Season 3 

No matter how mad Colin was, his instincts were always to protect Pen, his true best friend. He always shows up for her. Never once thought of not marrying her. The slight smile and nod by them both…. Pen walking down the aisle to “Yellow”…. PERFECTION. Pen started the season like always, hiding behind LW and then working out what she needed and then Colin realizing he didn’t need to “do” anything to earn Pen’s love, he just needed to love her. HE is enough. Luke and Nic are both great actors but man, they took it up a notch this season. They SMASHED it.

I actually have rewatched every season a LOT. But season 3 has me in a chokehold! I’ve watched so many times I’ve lost count and I cry through Penelope’s speech at the end every time.

"Release the bugs" I was like what no?! what? I definitely didn't think it was butterflies but I was oh so pleased😅😅

Penelope’s wedding dress: the blush pink in that fabric? Like the palest pink rose petal imaginable. I loved how they included the palest yellow in the church wedding decorations, united with the Bridgerton blues. They FINALLY found a yellow for Penelope that works!

This season was all the feels.All The Feels.ALL.THE.FEELS 😍😍😍

I absolutely LOVE this season as well! By far my favorite! I do think though that Colin gets a bad wrap for being hurt and angry. If you put yourself in his shoes....he just found out that the love of his life has lied to him many times and has repeatedly hurt, humiliated and traumatized his family and himself. So I feel like he was entitled to his anger at Pen. Pen had to take responsibility and accountability for her actions, which she did, and I loved every minute of it. I also think his jealousy and enviousness stemmed from Colin thinking he had to be worthy of love and do something for her....and I think he felt that he was sort of gaslight into thinking he was a good writer when he found out about her being a published writer....which then also fed into his insecurity of not being worthy of Pen. Which I can understand how humiliating that must be....everything he thought he knew about her and their relationship just shifted on its axis and then Colin was left questioning everything about her and himself....just like he was after Marina....which is why I think he brought up that entrapment line...I think he was feeling as humiliated as he did back then and those same feeling of being seen as a fool were resurfacing. Colin is a very straightforward guy, he does not hide his emotions or feelings, he practically broadcast his love for Pen every chance he got, so to find out that Pen has been secretly hurting him and his family and lying about it all along, is such a gut punch. I sometimes think the audience loves that Pen has become a GirlBoss and tend to gloss over all her faults and try to put blame onto everyone else. What Pen did was wrong...she did not have to humiliate and denigrate those in the ton...but she chose to in order to feel power....then she became intoxicated with that power....it took those that she loved most being hurt and angry with her and then the Bridgerton family being caught in the cross hairs of the Queen and Cressida for Pen to finally realize that she needs to write more responsibly and not hurt anyone for power anymore. I love this season so much because without Colin, Pen wouldn't have learned to become to confident and she wouldn't have taken responsibility and without Pen, Colin wouldn't have realized his own self-worth and understand that his kindness and sensitivity is not something to be hidden away. This couple truly found their true selves in each other, and they both pushed each other to become to best versions of themselves through unconditional love. There was never a moment in Colin's anger where he said he didn't love her or wouldn't stand with her...even in anger he was willing to hear her out and try to understand her reasoning for everything.... and Pen even understood Colin needing distance and allowed for his anger without lashing out at him...they were both allowed to make mistakes without those mistakes being thrown back in their faces. This is the epitome of love. There was never a moment I felt that these two didn't love each other....it was just interesting to see how they were going to work through these moments of difficulty. Now I am sooooo excited for S4 and to see them happily in love and as new parents!

Girl we are on the same page!!! This is my favorite season, and it isn’t even close!!!! I cried through most of part two. I have rewatched this season so many times. I just don’t get why it’s getting so much hate.

Agreed! Best season so far. It wasn't full of toxic behaviours, excused because the male lead had "trauma", it was full of flawed individuals (especially very young ones) working on themselves & - like a butterfly - transforming. Pen & Colin are only 20 & 22 but the way they share their vulnerabilities already, they will have a long happy life together & it's what they deserve. Also, Colin (who always looked up to Anthony) is now managing the Featherington estate for his son so it'll be great to see them living across from Bridgerton house in S4 🩵🦋 Loved your reactions, thank you for getting it☺️

Yes! Best season. Like, I love both previous seasons (season 2 more than 1- love Kate!) but this felt like everything coming together. It made me laugh, cry...feel everything. And Luke and Nicola took so much abuse when it was announced this was their season - all this talk about it being a failure...Well...its on course to be the most successful season yet! A testament to everyone involved.

This was my favourite season too. I loved the drama and side stories. And yeah, I also have compassion for Cressida - she was taught to play dirty by her parents and was running in complete survival mode. Tough lesson.

The actors Nic and Luke have been holding out on us! Their performances this season were next level. Loved it!

45:18 I think here is a little piece of dialogue that often gets cut out in reactions that I find to be so important and beautiful. Like with the end of Colin's journal entry in episode 2, I think they sometimes put things that are so meaningful in places where they're set up to be ignored which makes me a little sad 😢 because I LOVE THE FEATHERINGTON 😂 story line this episode!❤

One clever little foreshadowing I haven’t seen anyone mention was when Pen pushed passed her sisters and walked ahead of them in ep 1 talking about having a son and Prudence says “what makes you think you’re part of this race?” And in the scene they depicted Pen “winning” the race and walking ahead of them, which in the end comes true. She won the baby race

That amazing final scene… 🎬 with the Featheringtons & Bridgertons as one family under one roof… Benedict, Gregory & Hyacinth mixing with Mr Finch & Mr Danworth like extended family… was fantastic. There were a LOT of scenes in this Season of the Featheringtons, with their alternate-reality to the perfect Bridgertons… and yet, both families are messy & chaotic. They are not really as different as they claim to be!

I totally agree with you - Season 3 is my favourite season, hands 🙌🏼 down! The previous two Bridgerton seasons were surprisingly BOTH about male trauma - Simon’s & Anthony’s - caused by their fathers (either through childhood abuse, or sudden death) - and how their poor womenfolk were nearly sentenced to a lifetime of suffering themselves… had not they unraveled that trauma, & set them free. Ironically, Queen Charlotte’s season was ALSO about George’s trauma… also caused by a father figure!… and Charlotte having to unravel the trauma in order for them to move forward together. Whereas Penelope’s season was all about her… discovering how she could live the life she wanted, without giving up Whistledown (and thus her voice), or Colin, in the process. All the different story threads 🧵 included in Season 3 actually made a LOT of sense to include in Penelope’s season. Because as Whistledown, she & her pen 🪶 were the weavers of all these story threads… what would ultimately happen to Penelope, would ultimately have a profound effect on all these people & their stories, from the Queen down. All our lives are woven together, & affect each other’s stories. A lot of viewers were complaining about why wasn’t Colin standing by Penelope’s side at the Danworth-Finch 🧡💜Ball, before the Queen’s 👑 arrival & final showdown. I wouldn’t have been surprised if Penelope’s letters to Violet & Colin had advised them to physically AVOID her at the Danworth-Finch Ball… until AFTER the Queen had given her final verdict.🦋 Penelope probably advised this tactic in order to keep the Bridgertons safe (whom both Penelope & Lady Danbury 🎩 loved just as protectively). I DID love how Penelope resolved to cease hiding the truth, not entangle others in her predicaments, & protect others regardless of what happened to herself. And that final monologue of Penelope stating Whistledown’s case in front of the entire Ton… Penelope PLAYED THE GAME perfectly! - Keep the Queen’s interest… - don’t shame the Queen in front of her peerage… - & eventually after a noble struggle, let the Queen win. As Colin admitted, it was “bloody brilliant”!

I've loved your reactions to this season! I agree, it's the best! I'm gonna be watching this one on repeat for a long time. And I could also have done with less of Benedict and Tilly, but I wish that time had been given to Polin, simply because I can't get enough of them! I'm hoping we'll get to see some scenes of them happy together in future seasons, without all the drama.

I find it a little funny that Lady Danbury was like, "It's not as though I asked your permission" like....when Violet was a teenager? If I remember correctly Violet wasn't even out in society yet when Lady Danbury was with her father 😂 I fully sobbed when Yellow started playing as Pen was walking down the aisle. I knew it had to be somewhere in the season bc duh, but I hadn't given much thought as to when it might happen and I lost it, that was the most perfect song placement in the entire series and then just as I recovered from that they started dancing to You Belong With Me 😭😭 You're so right, best season. We Polin fans won, I'm so happy. I have a few critiques of the season, but they mostly come back to, we needed a couple more episodes to flesh out a few threads and let certain plot beats breathe a little. I think they did a pretty good job with the time they had though and I'm happy with how Colin and Penelope's story played out. We really got to see what makes their relationship so special and so beautiful. So excited for your reactions to seasons 1 & 2, it'll be a nice little walk down Polin memory lane in addition to the main couples of those seasons! I also miss Edwina, so esp looking forward to S2. Also, omg fellow water sign! I'm a Pisces tho, but my niece is a Cancer! I'm with you, I do feel bad for Cressida. She made her own bed, but like I had a little bit of hope for her to grow earlier on in the season, but maybe she needs more time and she can make amends for her actions in future seasons. I love Jess Madsen, so I do want to see more from Cressida. Something else I want in future seasons is more Lady Danbury and Pen developing a friendship, it was one of the few things on my S3 wishlist that we didn't get and I am bummed about it. I have a little head canon about Lady Danbury and Violet roping Pen into their matchmaking schemes OR b/c I also want Pen and Kate being pregnant together next season and having both of their husbands simping over them all season. What if Lady Danbury and Violet have a matchmaking competition with Pen and Kate? It's a silly idea that probs won't happen and that's okay, but I'm gonna enjoy the head canon while I can lol. I do think I read somewhere that they're gonna explain keeping the Julie Andrews voiceovers as like that's the voice Pen hears in her head when she's writing as Whistledown. That's such a huge part of the show, it'd be criminal not to have her anymore after only three seasons. I feel like that explanation works too b/c we have a bunch of scenes where Pen is in the act of writing the column and we hear the VO, like it's not just that we hear the VO once it's been published, so it works.

I loved this season. Colin and pens lives story was beautiful and so satisfying bc we had 2 prior seasons building up to it. But what was really enjoyable was the character arc for pen. Her having confidence and a voice. A lot of focus was in women finding themselves and claiming what they want. They also did a great job with Portia & most of the other secondary storylines. Nicola and Luke did such a wonderful job as the leads this season. Luke said Colin crying during the whistledown reveal was t in the script. He was just exhausted and emotionally drained so he ended up crying and the director went with it. It was perfect and heartbreaking. The wedding was beautiful. I heard that the cast basically had a bachelorette party for nicola and she said Luke wasn’t allowed to see her in her wedding dress until they started filming bc they wanted an authentic reaction.

So excited! Joi, would you consider doing a vid of your fave Bridgerton dresses or looks? I realised that I swooned over the dresses more than the dudes! 😂😂😂

I have to also add, at the beginning of Episode 7… when Colin confronted Penelope outside the printers. All of Colin’s tears just pouring down his face? Took me out. And the stormy Opening titles… with the Bridgerton tree looking worse for wear🍃 as it tried to hold itself together during that grey stormy ⛈️ gale? That devastation was how we were ALL feeling.

I would have loved to see more of a reconciliation of pen and Colin, a little longer sexy scene after their marriage. I think Benedict was in fact interested, but he got nervous and dipped. The reason I think this is because a lot of queer people, myself included, have experienced this feeling when we were first experimenting.

Colin obviously had the right to feel some type of way but the fact that he was still going to marry her atp i was like get over it then. 💀

I highly recommend watching Sammy Bates's videos on Polin's relationship and Colin character analysis. I'm seeing far too many people not understanding how different these characters are from previous leads because of how internal both of them are and how their journeys, particularly Colin's, are told in the subtlety of facial expressions and eyes. Cause Luke Newton absolutely knocked it out of the park in that regard and both him and Nicola nailed down the authentic awkwardness of going from friends to lovers.

I love how much you loved the season! I will never say what the best season is, but this is my favorite to date!😂🎉❤ I think it's a complete fantasy tale for Pen. Do you have to be really comfortable with lead and Colin Rock in his full Drama King theatrics. But he makes Penelope so happy! 🩷and he wants to be supported even when he's mad or feels useless😍🤩 always ready to affirm her because he truly does see her as like his hero, and for no reason at all, like she explained she doesn't need one, she feels the same about him. It's sweet, it's romantic, there's some sexiness -mostly romantic 😂 I think it's a great season. I think people were expecting a lot out of eight episodes, and the producers try to give everybody a crumb. Not the smartest and most definitive direction for a show, but it was a great season 💖👰🏾🤵💒

As inconvenient as it was for the viewers to experience Kate & Anthony getting a “convincing exit” from the series… in reality, Jonathan Bailey (who plays Anthony) was flat-out working on multiple film/television projects AT THE SAME TIME. While working on Bridgerton, Jonathan had to dash away to do his scenes 🎬 for the film WICKED 🧙🏿… and Heartstopper 🍂… having just completed Fellow Travellers!

I know so many people who get married knowing things are not all good between them and their partner…they end up suffering and breaking up…NO ONE should get married with unresolved issues. Truth be told…Netflix messed this up because in the books Colin knew about whistledown before he proposed to Penelope.

At 37:00 I wanted her to say Colin don’t go PLEASE STAY . How I wanted him to immediately FOLD for her. aahhhh it was a missed opportunity. The way he was staring at her shoulder his entire train of thought was gone for a couple seconds. He forgot about everything that man was SHOOK .

A theory: If you closely examine the guests on the Featherington side at the church wedding… are those two women in the wedding pews, dressed up all in green 💚 like Featheringtons… could THEY be Featherington cousins, attending the wedding??? They SURE looked like nieces of Portia’s!! 🤔 The little flower girls were red headed too. Actually in that later scene 🎬 where Polin are dancing at their wedding breakfast… there are a LOT of onlookers dressed in bright Portia-inspired chartreuse green! 💚 I think this was actually a request from Nicola: to have a visible Portia presence in the wedding guests… with red headed relatives in various hues of chartreuse green! 🧑🏻‍🦰💚👩🏻‍🦰💚👨🏻‍🦰💚

I am a cancer too, but i just can't root for Cressida because as I started feel bad for her situation, she proved to me that she played way too dirty. I love part 2 also, and I am so glad I finally got to see your reaction. I love that she finally got her happy ending, and they tied up the season so nicely. What was your most favorite part of season 3? Have you heard the song by Tori Kelly for season 3 of Bridgerton? I believe it's called "All that I want".

50:10 I have an idea about what they could have done with Cressida… Now that we know what her home life is like and why she is a Regina George; I would have liked to see Cressida, Eloise, and Pen work together to get her out of the marriage with the great great granddaddy. I’m not saying they all become best friends, but there can be some healing which could lead to a team up. …but Cressida chose violence…which in my opinion is a waste of the “friendship” between Eloise and Cressida the show was trying to force feed us…

13:14 this is the scene where Colin and Penelope should have taken off their gloves and reconcile. Pen should have shot back with “I wrote that about you because I was hurting. You hurt me last year when you said what you said - then you had the audacity to say you missed me?! I wanted to hurt you so I did, but I doubt your hurt can ever compare to the pain of a heart shattered into thousand pieces at your feet…” Then Colin could just be valuable and admit he’s not really mad at her - he’s jealous of her success, feels too embarrassed to face her - because she’s got her life together while he’s worried about what he’s going to do with his life; “I’m also scared Pen that I won’t be able to take proper care of you and our future children without relying on the Bridgeton name, and I feels like a clown because I don’t truly know you Penelope”. After admitting all this to each other, they blow each other’s back out on the street, in a carriage, back at their house. But the main point would be that they will get married the next day after having a proper reconciliation.

In the off-season while Bridgerton is not ready to release, I would LOVE a spin-off season featuring Lady Danbury, Queen Charlotte, Violet Bridgerton… and Portia Featherington! Titled something like “The Matriarchs of The Ton”. Now that all her daughters are married to good men… three grandchildren… & her home is now secure thanks to Penelope & Lady Whistledown… I’d love to see Portia finally RELAX, stop fighting for her life now that her ship is finally not sinking… and actually learn how to develop REAL friendships with both Violet & Agatha, but especially Violet. In the past 3 seasons, Portia never had a good female friendship to turn to. Trusting nobody, she was ALWAYS battling the world alone… whereas Violet & Agatha always had their friendship to get them through their crises. Portia was alarmingly not that much different to the likes of Cressida & Lady Cowper. She & Varley DID inscribe false letters to poor Marina in Season 1, tricking her into thinking her man Sir George Crane no longer wanted her!! I’d love Portia to go on a long journey, have her eyes & world opened… & realise that as a fellow widow, grandmama & matriarch, she could now resolve to live a more authentic life… with Violet & Agatha’s assistance. I could see Violet, & especially Agatha & Charlotte developing a cautious but growing curiosity in Portia… the actual mother of the famous Lady Whistledown.

Lottie should have done this in private and ordered Penelope to continue writing as LW but keep the royal family out of her mouth…I don’t know, maybe the fact Colin wasn’t standing with her to show a united front is what bothered me the most about this scene…
