I can explain, in my speculation it depends on the wood and its thickness and its construction, wood can possibly dissipate the molten jet energy and reduce the penetrating capability of an HEAT round (Ex. B40/Rpg2).

@@notlistening6499 Yes, it wouldn't be terminal velocity then, but because the atmosphere is not uniform, the actual terminal velocity would depend on the height. Baumgartner was peaking at 400 m/s, for example.
