that's what they were hoping for in part 1, to give a false sense of the story being plain and predictable in part 1 just to caught off guard in part 2
I don't know if you have seen the show Dexter but it had plot points from the first 2 seasons of that show. The guy who Joe never met was basically the brother of Dexter and how he worked in first two seasons.
That's the problem with watching half of a complete chapter......Disney plus is going through with the same issue How are the episodes being viewed has to be kept in mind while writing the script, directing, editing and promoting......you cannot make a long movie and chop it to pieces
I loved how season 4 ended because it showed one, important thing: Joe doesn't *want* to change. I think for some viewers that was already clear, but he kept saying, to himself and others, that he doesn't want to do the things he does, causing so much inner conflict that his personality eventually split. He repeatedly fooled himself and us into thinking he's capable of changing because he's a "good person deep down". And that his relapses were due to circumstances he could not control, situations where he had to act the way he did, and that he just wants to be loved. But after that S4 finale, he was given the possibility of a new life with a woman who really loves him and who has the means to cover up the wrong-doings of his past. And what does he do? Become completely unhinged and embrace his dark side. It's not that he wants to change but lacks the "how". He doesn't want to change at all. And now that he has someone who can cover up his messes there's no need for inner conflict anymore.
if he had wanted to change so bad, he would have not find another "you" after Love People blame her for the romance with this teenager, but he is the one who found new love interest for himself, someone who he can be obsessed with and everything spiraled down from that moment on
Idk I kind of disagree. Joe wants to change the same way I want to be able to pin down a grizzly bear. He's just fighting an impossible battle and its because he doesn't truly accept that what he has done is wrong. Just like a grizzly bear it's not impossible to take one down but you will definitely need some help. Because he lies to everyone about everything he thinks, its impossible for anyone to tell him otherwise. Its sort of just a tale about a man who fights a losing battle with himself because he cant get any help because he lies all of the time.
I think a part of him did want to change, but because the part of him he wanted to change, was so fundamental to who he is caused a split in his personality. Now that he’s whole again killing is going to be a little easier for him, but I think he does have other options now.
They did a perfect Beginning of the End… now that Joe is unhinged, he’ll make a ton of mistakes. The audience will finally lose all empathy for him. And his loose ends know exactly where to find him👌🏽 LET’S GO!
Having empathy for Joe is absolutely the worst thing you could do. He murdered countless people. You'd be the type to try to fix him and get killed in the end.
I feel like they need to bring back Love’s family since now that he has his old life back they know he’s alive and they wouldn’t let their kids murderer just get away. I mean it only makes sense, it’d be such a big plot hole if the Quinn family wouldn’t get involved. I just hope -since he was so obsessed with Rhys’ life-they won’t bring politics into it because that would be really boring… Also I would love to see Ellie and Paco again
I honestly think they should do a season five but they should have Mary Ann and then the little girl that Jenna Ortega played come back and hunt him down because he's in New York. Yes it is Jose original playground
There is literary zero chance jenna`s character would hunt him down... She has no reason to. He was only in wrong for putting her in the cage and her real killer is gone now. Also I dont think jenna will be back in the show
Seasons and what they said about Joe: Season. 1: With Beck it was definitely more of a love story, it gave how they fell in love and how he thought she was the one and he was unstable and from the viewers point of view he killed to protect her and Paco because he was crazy and thought those are things you do for someone you love. He was the nice guy with a dark side. But as viewers we still saw him as the good guy and we didn’t like Beck. Joe just wanted someone to love him in the eyes of the audience and himself. Season 2: his past returns to haunt him and he tries to run away. He starts over starts to fall in love again and the ultimate point of this season is for him to realize he is not the good guy. He then realizes that Love is doing everything he did in season 1 and he thinks he is repented and she is just crazy. He always wanted someone to love him , but when someone loved him as much as he did he rejected it. The life he always wanted with someone who thought the same way he did and loved him unconditionally, knowing everything he did was a front, justifying his killings but not excusing hers. he revealed that he wasn’t looking for love he was feeding new obsessions. I think her name really was a metaphor saying Joe wants love until he has love them he wants to destroy it. Season 3: This really was the final straw for a lot of us, Joe continually falls in love with other women and become obsessed with them as he treats his wife and son bad and abandons for these other women. He demonstrates that he never wanted a wife and family or to find the “one” he will never be satisfied with one girl and never see himself at fault. He kills his wife and abandons his child to live his life out with another woman he deems “the one” Season 4: he chases the other woman back to Europe trying to prove his love for her and she rejects him. He tries to move on and repent and tells himself he is the good guy as he falls in love with another woman , when his personality splits and he realizes he is not the good guy but he is an evil guy. Everything he’s done up to this point he tried to justify from the hero’s perspective but now that he realizes he is the bad guy he embraces it and is now acting evil with no moral compass( ie framing his student for the killings he committed)
I thought kate was going to get him psychiatric help but instead ughhhhh. I have so many unanswered questions about his childhood, his son. , loves family, it all has to come to a head!!!
I think good won’t triumph over evil- I think that’s the whole point of the story that it doesn’t conform to our narrative expectations. I think the revenge arch is probably the way they’ll go - I’m sure they’ll want to bring back all the survivors, but I just don’t think they’ll be able to bring down joe.
Season 5 Joe kills kate and becomes POTUS season 6 president arc season 7 first contact with aliens >falls in love with alien side piece and manages to become undisputed leader of the universe. season 8 Joe triggers the third impact.
Good doesn't always triumph over evil but to literally face zero consequences after years of doing incredibly dumb shit that should get u locked up, is unimaginably stupid. There's no consequences anymore. Nobody will gaf if Joe survives bc plot armor always lets him
@@spikeboy101 obviously the fact that will has done what he’s done and gotten away Scot free is unbelievable. I guess on some level it’s kinda the ultimate satire, the fact that unremarkable seemingly innocuous white cis hetero men are able to move through the world. Whilst women (often of colour) end up drugged, dead, captive, orphaned or wrongfully imprisoned…
@@SophieDP1 Definitely has nothing to do with color or male vs female. Everyone, literally everyone of all color and genders has gotten fucked over, horribly. The only thing funny (imo) is how absurdly bad the writing got. They don't know wtf to do with Joe.
I would argue that joes white pretty male privilege is definitely in operation both within the storyline and how we perceive him as a viewer. Joe doesn’t conform to our expectations of a serial killer: handsome and eloquent - we inevitably find ourselves rooting for him (this season admittedly less). Yes, the people he kills span a wide range of demographic categories but the ones who suffer the most are women…. Often because of joes patriarchal and paternalistic attitude which leads him to assume he knows what is best for them thereby ultimately denying them agency.
Lets be honest guys and stop the bluff, i think we can have 7 or 8 seasons of Joe and we will not get bored especially since every season irs joe and new people which is really exciting and fun to watch.
Fr people want to end it until it’s actually OVER then they’ll be crying for more. Hey the writers and producers have done a fantastic job with 4 seasons so far so I don’t mind a 7th season at all🤷♀️ Now an 8th may be too far lol
@@MsHalle-kg9ny yeah agreed as long as its 6 seasons and more we are more than happy. Just i wish we have one more after 5 as well and then we can call it off.
@@murderjai no not necessarily, we would have said the same thing after aeason 2 saying 4 would be too much but look at us now. I think we can fathom 2 more seasons and don't forget its new people and new place and definitely new love interest for joe.
I think what he means and what needs to be said is that, obviously, this character has a firm grasp on us and the zeitgeist for some reason, and in order for there to feel like there’s a satisfying conclusion, there has to be some sort of satisfactory thesis that not only concludes the story, but also points out why we all feel this way about a serial killer. The thesis of the story ties into something happening in our era in the real world… but what is it? And how can Joe as a narrator come to this conclusion himself after all that he has (and will with more seasons 🤞🏻) gone through? Like, is it about our obsession with true crime? Our obsession with social media? Vanity/narcissism? Anti-heroes? The human desire to see the good in people? How love can get messy? Or some other observation about love as a concept and how it impacts us? The lengths we go to for romantic love AND/OR justify the lies we tell ourselves? All of it together? Make it all make sense!!!! 🧐 and then tie it in a nice bow 💝 pls and thanks
I sincerely hope they don't go that route, or if they do, do it in a very subtle way. I don't want a monologue of preachiness thrown at the viewer. We watch the show because it's entertaining, Joe isn't a real serial killer. That kind of message belongs more on a show like Dahmer than You.
@@tumulovermelho93 well, if you don’t want a monologue, then you’re watching the wrong show. The point is not that it’d be preachy, but rather conclusive and satisfactory and its thesis (even if it didn’t necessarily have one at the beginning, it’s bigger that now). It’d maybe even be self-aware about its popularity in the real world. I know that some art doesn’t need a purpose but it’s fun to explore the “why?”. I understand what you’re saying about the Dahmer series for example, because it really does speak to something a series of events that happened in real life, but I still think the obsession with this show “You” is real too, even if it’s in a different way. I just want all of this to mean something. Something with a similar effect, but an unsatisfying conclusion was Uncut Gems. SPOILERS. This guy keeps fucking up and you keep hoping for him to change but then all of a sudden he dies in an instant and it doesn’t really change anything. I don’t think, obviously, that there’s a redemption for Joe, but I don’t want a Sopranos ending. 🔫
Every season never ceases to amaze me!! I'm so sad season 5 will be the last season of YOU! But so excited and can't wait!! All of the seasons are incredible!!!
At first, the beginning part of you s4 part 1 really didn't make sense at all... But the last part of you s4 took a different turn. It was nicely packed even for a final ending of some sort... It definitely left us wanting again eventually
I think a lot of the people that Joe has screwed over- but who are still alive should come back and try and bring Joe to justice. And it could be a VERY interesting dynamic with the children in particular that Joe has TRIED to help in his own ways. However it ends I think that’s the thing the show has been setting up the most- This could feature Joe’s neighbor from season 1, the rest of Love’s family, Jenna Ortega, Nadia, Marianne- even a couple other surprise guests out of no where that could come in and witness this in court. Joe definitely has the money to get away with it, but there’s also a ton of evidence to lock him up- I think that’s the direction we should move. Imagine the mother of Joe’s child pulls up- imagine some other family member of Joe shows up, or we get scenes further explaining and re-contextualizing things- there are so many potential twists and turns
yeah, but I really hope they get Joe in season 5, sorry, he made me sooo mad in the second half of season 4. All his victims and survivors need justice.
It could if they play along the show's/Joe's moral ambiguity as seen in seasons 1, 2 and 3. Season 4 kinda dropped the ball on Joe's character, turning him into a total bad guy instead of the nuanced character victimised by his yearning for love/affection, 'hubristic' need to help and the actions of the (terrible) people that bring out his inner sadist/the worst in him. Current direction of the show seems to even make the (awful) characters that have directly/indirectly hurt Joe seem like saints.
There definitely HAS to be another season!Marianne MUST get justice for what that shit put her through! This ending is absolutely NOT satisfying in any way, shape,or form!BRING IT!🤨
@@radhiadeedou8286 Ik but joe has been getting away with it for such a long time now and the main character armor is getting on my nerves plus joe did Nadia DIRTY
Joe finally embracing his dark side was a great ending for me. Although it wud definitely end by Joe dying at the end there is still time for it, I thought when he jumped over the bridge YOU was over but glad to find it still continuing.
Penn is absolutely adorable! I think he's just such a handsome guy! Ever since Easy A, he's just pretty easy on the eyes for sure! seems to have a great personality as well which is always a great thing!!
I always see everyone saying that they want to see joe get what he deserves and go to prison but personally i like how he keeps getting away with everything and how he doesnt change for the better, it makes the show more entertaining for me and in my opinion joe is just getting more and more scary
Yea bro me too honestly it’s the best part of the show to me but I feel eventually he has to inevitably go down one way or another but I hope they actually do something different with him and Kate and let them be like an evil super couple instead of always having the relationships end the same way and that being the story line
@@KKOOLSKOOL yeah me too, I'm curious to see how will the relationship between him and Kate unfold, she has a lot of powerful connections, it's possible that she would be able to threaten him in some way but I do hope they will come up with different end to their story than what happened between him and love
There needs to be a season 5 to tie up lose ends from all people that suspected him (Dr. Nicky, Elie, & Paco) and the people who _know_ he's a killer (Marienne & Nadia). And now that Joe Goldberg has resurfaced as himself in NYC, the Quinn family will go after him again.
Paco left NY, and loved Joe. Dr. Nicky is self righteous, and doesn't care anymore. In the books Ray Quinn tries to kill Joe but stops because he's not a murderer; thus why in the TV series tries to have a hitman take him out. Marienne wouldn't stand a chance against the wealth of knowledge and money Joe has; I think we've seen the last of her. Nadia I could see starting something, but I doubt it would come to fruition. Also one last tidbit Kate and her resources make the Quinns look broke, almost homeless compared to the amount of money she has.
dr nicky doesnt care enough to, paco held joe down bc he h saved him from ron, marienne is better off staying with her kid and being "dead", and nadia's silence is only digging her a bigger grave. the longer nadia doesnt protest her innocence the less and less people will believe her.
Ive always imagined it ending by him getting arrested and some of the characters from past seasons giving testimonies about him in court when its finally time for him to pay for his crimes
Joe has immeasurable power now bc plot conveniently twists millionaire and now possibly billionaire women into his life. He shoulda paid for his crimes from that suicide and that'd be a pleasant ending but no. For some reason the writers needed him start as a tortured soul into the now boring "haha I like kill now haha, u die, I powerful" loser. We all saw him try to change but not only did he disappoint everyone over and over again, he submits to the worst part of him when so many people in his life believed in him. Pathetic.
I am completely traumatized by joe goldberg. I had to watch the bloopers of this show on youtube just to remind myself that joe is just a character in this show and not a real person. 😅
I have lost all sorts of empathy for Joe after season 4 and despise his character now. Before there was something likeable about him. Now, there is nothing likeable about him. He has become an unhinged killer at this point and embraced his evil nature. That's a typical trait of serial killer. I think the next season is going to be second last season which is the beginning of a end of Joe's journey followed by the last season which is season 6.
Penn didn't you say in another interview that you signed for 6 seasons to cover all of the authors books or if it was covered by 5 seasons than that would be the end. I hope you give us two more. Please!
I can't wait for season 5! You is the type of show you can't get enough of because of how clever the main character is,it's kinda ironic as well.("You" the show being addicting lol,it's a pun)
I think season 5 could be a very brutal, bloody, and unhappy ending. All the people that Joe f’d over will come back for revenge but they’ll use the same tactics that he used in order to kill him, creating a cycle of his psychopathic behavior
😅 A comment like this has the ability to bring in the "Actually" nerdish ppl (not saying nerds are bad I am one myself lots of love) to clarify that this isn't the only season without leaving any recommendations 😢
Marianne is plotting her revenge, hence the Joe Goldberg Google alert on her phone. It would be fun for Nadia, Ellie, and Marianne to team up to take him down together.
@@radhiadeedou8286 Nadia saving Marianne in the first place was far fetched. Marianne being alive has to play a part in Joe's downfall or it is a massive waste.
Joe takes out pain without taking a pill. Joe handles pain his way. Joe is truly my who we want to be and we can't do it, but Joe can. Joe is actually "you. Joe takes out pain, you love it, and now you feel better. He's a hero in his own rite.
Love Quinn's father will definitely return. He sent a hitman to get rid of Joe, the killer lied that he did the job and now Joe is a famous person, no longer hiding or pretending to be dead. He will send other assassins.
Hi, I hope so, because the scene with the hitman and Marienne's necklace as a proof that she's dead (if that was real) would not have made much sense if the s4 ending was the real ending...
I could've sworn they announced the show was renewed for 2 more seasons at the end of season 3, but I guess I was wrong. Anyway, great season! The first half was enjoyable but the second half was insane. Hopefully we get one more season!
I'm starting to think that Joe has 9 lives.. like being so lucky to escape all those crimes he did and still rise from one level to another.. pretty weird😅
Season 5 - they have to bring grown-up Henry there. I wonder how Joe will meet his son and if their meeting will change anything about Joe. As mentioned in other comments, we still have Paco, Ellie, Nadia and Dr.Nicky + Marienne. They have their stories to tell
I think they have to bring back Love. Love uses Henry to stay close to Joe. Love kills Kate. Love exposes and tells the truth about Joe. Love kills herself and Joe. Serial killers, especially these 2 should not get happy endings, but rather satisfying endings. Mostly everyone would agree that Joe had no business in this season 4 setting especially with these characters and being affiliated with this billion-dollar family. Kate is a very uninteresting lover for Joe and has no qualities that Joe is attracted to. I am having hope if they have a season 5, Love will put an end to things.
He has a son, Season 5 could be set in 20 years from Season 4 while Joe and Kate have family, children yadi yadi ya. His son can outsmart him and make him pay for everything. Just a thought.
I agree too but there’s only so much he can get away with before it becoming super unrealistic and repetitive. I’m sure he’s not done with killing people and living a normal happy life.
I just find it very hard for Joe to have been rescued from the water as it would have been very rare unless in the UK they constantly monitor bridges for people jumping. Loved season 4 and hope we get a season 5 where he gets killed by both of the women who survived.
Well i think season 5 could be the best chance to end the show even S4 we didn't come up with anything new just old joe except the last 3 episodes where everything turned upside down but i'm intrigued to know how will joe handle everything with the empire he has now .
@@KingMaster2074enn and tati said that if he were to be killed then he wouldn’t have to deal with the aftermath of what hes done to people (granted he has little to remorse to begin with) and dying means he escapes all that accountability. Tati said she thinks he should be tortured in the same way, and penn said something about wanting to see Joe in a prison like environment .again, all of these are up in the air
I really hope it ends with everyone who knows about Joe (like Nadia, Marianne, Ellie, Theo maybe even freaking Dr. Nicky… OR PACO!) will end up bringing him down.
Season 4 was okay 6/10. I hope a 5th season will be better. I honestly would like a prequel or a time jump maybe he can go back to california an save his son somehow maybe he’s in danger or something. I think they can pull 2 more seasons an then be done with it all. Or else itll be repetitive stalking an killing haha but i love seeing penn play this role so much
Here we go Joe 😅 sure all of the survivors will team up and wanna bring him down for good. They know his secrets but I see one guy who could rather kill him or help him 😮 and that's his half brother 😊😊 we saw him once already!!!
wait wait how about dr nicky?? he knows abt joe bc of forty but then it can be brushed off with how he prob got visited a lot and forgot or doesn’t care so he forgot
@@whorcruxed yeah we finally got to see Joe from someone else’s perspective without his narration and he’s gross 😂. His scene with Marianne at the table watching Rhys on his laptop. So creepy.
