Dennis, thanks for another informative video. OMG, that spring was soooo small. Congrats on getting it on correctly

Thanks for explaining the purpose of the bump guard. It had seemed like a totally useless part to me. On the schematic it is just listed as "rear cover". One weird thing is that the parts schematic shows only one washer (8A - shim) on the left side of the main gear. I've worked on two of these so far and one had one washer and the other had none, but yours had two! Also, the parts schematic doesn't show any washers on the other side but both of mine had one there, just inside the bearing.

The shim is a way adjust the the tolerances on the main. It usually goes between 1 and 3 washers. No washers is unusual

Great video as usual The top bearing collar in the pinion Stack was installed upside down the open side of the collar that accepts the bearing should be facing up toward the rotor

That little spring for the override has caused me to sell the two reels I owned that had it. You make it look easy but that little bugger is very hard to set at least for me.

I have a question when do you use drag Grease and when to use drag oil 🤔 thank you sir keep the great videos coming lots of good information learning a lot from your videos
@2ndChanceTackle
@2ndChanceTackle 2 года назад
Yes - Drag grease is used on leather and porous washers. Oil is used on felt washers, grease is optional on Carbontex washers and nothing is used on teflon washers. Thanks for asking - Dennis

I am not sure which spring, but the schematic in the link below will help you with the part number and you can order the part through that site - Mysticparts.com www.mysticparts.com/Assets/images/pennparts/schematics/btlii2000.pdf. Dennis

Great Video - thanks. I'm waiting on the A/R spring for my Battle II 2500 along with the main gear. I've had multiple main gear failures on these battle reels (the portion that turns the crosswind gear). Wonder if I'm putting too much pressure on it unknowingly when using it. Have you seen a lot of that type failure?
@2ndChanceTackle
@2ndChanceTackle Год назад
It usually happens when the reel snags up and you try to power crank out of it. That will tear up those gears. Try freeing the snag by wrapping the line around the rod but and using that for leverage. In worst case, cut the line. It is a lot cheaper than rebuilding the reel - Dennis

Dennis, I need help! I've done four of these now, pretty much in the same way. After reassembly, two are just fine but two are noisy. None were noisy before I started. Have you ever reassembled a Penn spinning reel (these are all Battle II 2000s), and had it be noisy and then found out how to quieten it? So far, I've tried some suggestions I read: cleaning the inside of the pinion gear, adding a shim (8a) to the cross shaft, and removing excess grease from the main shaft, all to no avail.
@2ndChanceTackle
@2ndChanceTackle 11 месяцев назад
The noise is usually a missing shim. Do you have the shim on the pinion gear between the top bearing and the rotor? The reel will get noisy if that is missing. The other suggestions are the same as what I would offer - Thanks

@robertbrandywine 11 месяцев назад
Yes, I have both the upper and lower clutch washers on there but will double check. I also noticed that these washers have a smaller OD than the shim washers (8A) I think. Perhaps I mixed those up and it makes a difference. @@2ndChanceTackle

I've fixed two of these that were quiet and smooth before and after my disassembly and cleaning became noisy and geary. Case one, problem only when I put the rotor on. I had never noticed that when the rotor is on there is a little play in the axis direction. I experimented with different size shims until I got this movement to a minimum, but not none at all. Case two, the problem was in the back end without the rotor yet on. I experimented with different thicknesses of shims (various combinations of different thicknesses). You don't have to screw the side plate back on to test, just hold it on -- that speeds things up immensely. Hope this helps others.

What causes the handle to feel more loose over time? It also has a small amount of additional backlash in the anti reverse.
@2ndChanceTackle
@2ndChanceTackle Год назад
The handle can become loose with wear or over tightening. The inside of the gear is threaded to accept the handle . Those threads wear down with use and the can result in the problem you are describing

As you may know, I am trying to repair a reel and the anti reverse assembly came apart and I’m having trouble putting it back together. Do you have any tips for that? 😢 I’m kinda scared

do you think all the parts in the 2500 are the same as the 1000
@2ndChanceTackle

Not all are interchangeable. You can view the schematics and part numbers for each reel by following this link www.mysticparts.com/PennParts/Spinning.aspx#BattleFamily Thanks for asking - Dennis

When I put the side case back on it grinds… What did I do wrong?
@2ndChanceTackle
@2ndChanceTackle 2 года назад
Something is tight - My guess is you don't have the shim that goes on the main gear between the gear and the bearing in its' right place. I would take the reel apart and start over to make sure every part is in its' place using the schematic as the map
@Farrellium
@Farrellium 2 года назад
@@2ndChanceTackle Thank you Dennis. I had everything in its right place according to diagram. It grinds less without the shims... but not perfect. I watched your video initially to fix my antireverse- which i had made ineffective by lubing up the shaft with white lithium grease. Fixed that but created a new problem, haha. Gonna drop by a reel repair guy near me later today. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!
