I bought five Penn reels from Ebay over the winter and rebuilt them; Senator 112H, Surfmaster 200, Squidder 140, Jigmaster 501, Squidder 146. Video of the finished reels.

Nice reels man! I too collect penns. For those dog springs, the spring in a bic lighter works as a great replacement. Just cut down to size and slightly pull the coils apart.

I’m 44 and been collecting penn reels from flea markets for 30 years now I have so many extra parts I ended up repairing and modifying them I’m on the east Coast and finally all the people in California and west coast are coughing up all the good older penn reels recently on eBay Fishing is still greater then ever on the east coast I’m such a dork I know what parts are interchangeable with other reels to make different reel numbers what upgrades you can do to the drag washers and how to install a dual dog on a 112h penn 500-501-506-505 and 113h

Cool just stumbled across this, been picking up old Penn and ocean city reels, love the vintage looks and old school American quality. I’m on the east coast of Florida. I’m thinking these are hitting the bottom as far as pricing goes, I’ve been buying quite a few for $25 sometimes shipped. I think they may come up in price in the future with the new ones being made in china.

I got and old penn 920 levelmatic realy nice real I got off my nephew I traded him a reel he could use lol line guide gear was striped had it for 7 years and realized it was a penn I recently cleaned it up ordered a new better idle gear and shaft works realy good now in KY all I do is fresh water fishing lol

I have always used Abu Garcia/ambassador reels but they all got stolen. am looking to start replacing my gear was wondering if you have every used Abu Garcia reels and how they compare because I see a lot of older penn reels going real cheap just would like some advice thank you

***** thank you for the advice i got one about 4 months ago for 15 dollars got it cleaned up and oiled it. I have to say for the price it is a great reel it will hold heavy line but it is kind of hard to adjust unlike the ambassadors that I had before. am still in testing with the reel I take out every time I go fishing I have 50 pound mono on it. I think that might be the problem am having with it. It is just a 209 am thinking it will throw a lot better with small line any input would be greatly appreciated.

thank for the reply I have been using a penn reel for a 3 month know and I think it is a good reel for boat fishing but not so much a caster I will buy more but just for drift/trolling fishing. I think am going back to ambassador reels I just really like them.

+iwantosavemoney so basically you add magnet inside the sideplate and what that does is when your reel havr aluminum spool it will generate power and the mag will create an eddie inside the reel thus slowing down thr spool
