I bought Penn fathom 2 30LWLH in October 2019. During the second disassembly, I saw broken metal at the screw attachment points. There have never been such problems on any of their reels. I always serve them myself and could not create such an effort. The quality of the metal is at the level of the cheapest silumin. Wrote to Penn - no answer. This is the quality of products and the quality of work with the client.
While you are still in the warranty period [1 year], suggest you go to the PENN site and follow the instructions for returning reels for repair. If you are not in the USA, there are different instructions/destinations for UK/Europe, which are found at a different site.
Did Penn discontinue the fathom 2 line counter reels? I was about to buy one b4 the season starts..if discontinued is a new line counter reel coming out?

Any of the sizes of the Fathom II Level Wind will work for Snapper & Amberjack - all sizes are equipped with 30lbs of our HT-100 Carbon drag and have enough line capacity. The 15 is on the small side, and the 50 on the large side for those species and all sizes save the 50 size, are also available in left hand retrieve and line counter models. A 20 or 30 size is likely your best option, depending on what you're using to target each species. In general. level-wind reels are not the ideal choice for "jigging style" presentations. A more suitable choice would be one of the Fathom "non-levelwind" or "lever drag" models.
The drag, gears, and frame are more than up to the task. However, in general, levelwind reels are not the preferred style for tuna. Better choices for that size tuna would be the Fathom FTH30LD2 or Fathom FTH40NLD2.
@@40ozkiller Definitely not the case. Several improvements in the "II" series, as noted in this video, but nothing wrong with the "I" series. No doubt some diligent Internet detective work could still locate one of the old ones if you were set on it.
