pre ordered the IV 4000 DX version for a lighter set up then my Excellent Daiwa BG 4500 on another set up with 270/50 Power Pro.I also been running Penn reels for 50 years and had a couple of greenie 704 and one of the 706 Bailess that landed me a lot fish very reliable long lasting built like tanks.
I'm the nutjob that bought a Triangle HD140 off a tackle shop to spool my own reels but having this on the boat is awesome. I can switch out top shots in a hurry and have the right tension while doing so. If you've ever fished SoCal you know fish get stupidly picky and my standard need for this is putting 20# mono on a heavier setup to entice a bite. It works fast and with enough tension. I wouldn't want to spool 500 yards of 100# spectra with this but for my use it's awesome. For freshwater guys, this will cover every possible base you've got.
How does a product designed for 1% of the market win best in show? 99% of anglers can’t and won’t use an electric reel. I didn’t see any marlin plugs win best lure. Didn’t see a single tuna rod win best rod? If that isn’t proof these awards are bought and paid for, what other evidence is needed?
Depends. Besides the obvious choices like disabled and older anglers, this opens up a huge opportunity for 800-1200 foot depths that has been neglected. In California for example, everything deeper than 300 feet had been closed for decades up until last year. Now all depths are open [for part of the year], giving anglers a shot at very productive fisheries like black cod/sablefish in 800-plus feet of water. Deep drop angling was already growing quickly in all coastal states. In many areas, kite fishing is extremely popular, and electric reels are heavily used to control the kites.

You will need to tie a double - one Uni knot with the braid on the mono, and one Uni knot with the mono on the braid. That way - the two knots backup each other, keeping the lines together.

The Penn 704 is a solid reel. I had a couple of them, but eventually sold them. They're just clunky and outdated. Slow gear ratio, heavy, annoying clicking sound on the retrieve, sometimes the bail could slam shut on a cast if the handle is in the wrong position. I just bought a Penn fierce IV 5000 from a pawn shop. Barely used with the original box for $35. It is so much more nicer to use. Silent retrieve, fast gear ratio, very strong drag, thick bail, instant anti-reverse, even took a few dunks in the saltwater, and it's still smooth as butter.
Depends. Besides the obvious choices like disabled or older anglers, many people now have the opportunity to do deep drops of 700-1200 feet or even more for a variety of species. Another example is California, which had outlawed fishing deeper than 300 feet for the past 30 years until 2023. For at least part of the year now, dropping down as deep as you want opens up a new set of possibilities and target species.
Please tell me the reel is rated at least IP65 so us fisherman don’t have to be concerned with salt intrusion frying the the display and electronics. Nice looking though!
I’ve been running PENN spinning reels in the Texas surf for YEARS. Mainly spinfishers and slammer 4 DX’s. Absolutely amazing reels. Very durable and easy to service. Held up to hammer heads, bull reds, bull sharks, blacktip sharks, specks, jacks, and stingrays. I’ll be getting a 2500dx for freshwater use just so I have one, but the Spinfisher line (to me) is the best. I prefer the HT-100 drag over the dura-drag for anything under 80-100lbs. I hope these new ones continue PENN’s legacy for durability, as I service my own reels. The first thing I do when I get one is tear down and clean & re-grease, so I’ll know if somethings off, but I have confidence in y’all. Looking forward to the next Spinfisher lineup.
Please ive ordered three of your rod combos two penn pursuit IV and then a fierce all the paint comes right off i cant believe i pay that much and the finish falls off right off the bat. The ugly stick still has its logo from 10 years ago and your rubs off in shipping before it even gets to me !

All I got to say is this thing better have a lifetime, no proof of purchase needed, fix it no matter what warranty. On the reel and the battery. The last thing I'd want to do is spend $1,000+ on something like this and end up not being able to use it because saltwater destroyed the electronics.
Anything you want to call it but deff NOT FISHING . Rod and reel , tackle fishing records are safe from this automation . You want the record in your name , you better reel it in ....😅
