i love how respectful Penn is to every magician on the show - sometimes he acts angry as a goof, but he always has a compliment to offer. He sets a great example.
@@krshrv He wasn't cruel about it, he seemed more disappointed than anything but rather than using code to keep the secret he came right out and said "it's a gimmicked watch."
I’ve noticed that too. Several acts you can tell they hate, because they’re cheesy or “mentalism” or just gimmicky, or some just aren’t good. But they never disrespect them, they always act like they like it, regardless.
I met them once after their show. I was so in awe I couldn't speak. Teller calmed down a bit and made me feel like a friend. They remind me of the Smothers Brothers. I met them after a show in a small casino in Oregon and they too were so down to earth. Both are such class acts. I have met a couple of other major celebrities in Las Vegas that seemed to hate the meet and greet. So sad because it's the fans that ultimately pay their salaries. Sorry no names.
Same. I love that they do that and that it's consistent. And I wasn't rushed, either, even though I was towards the back of the line. I chose to talk to Penn (a circle formed around Teller, Penn was a line) and he made me feel like me and my silly dime-a-dozen commenting was the most important thing he had to do at the moment. Also, I'm a little over 5'11" and he just towers over me like when you see a tall building and it seems to curve away from you as you look at the top floors =)
teller used to do radio op-eds for npr years ago (maybe he still does, but i stopped listening to npr a while back) he is very articulate, intelligent, and surprisingly deep voiced..
You can tell that penn is an absoulute profesional, because he tells the same story over and over again, with the same enthusiasm and without beeing annoyed.
I didn't know how much I loved magic until I started watching, Fool Us. I'm addictive. The performers are amazing. I especially like the close up slight of hand and card performers.
Penn talks how affable some entertainers are but Penn and Teller are extremely friendly and at the top of that list. I chatted with Penn after a show in San Francisco many years ago music, musicians and his association with the Residents Group.
The second trick he talked about, where the audience member turns into Teller, I still remember it sounding like literally every single person in the room of maybe 2500 seats gasped at the same time, audibly. Totally took their feet out from under them (well, mine, too!) They're all good but you can spitball a lot of it too, even if you know they do cleaner/better versions of stuff (what's the word on this page of these books, sleight of hands, etc.) but that had so many good, simple, clever ideas hooked together to make the effect work that it really came sideways. AND it had a meaningful theme behind it, based on the way it was introduced. If magic performance can be considered art it's easily my favorite of theirs.
15:50 "...the more you know, the less you're fooled" Wow that is applicable to so many things other than magic. Politics, religion, business, life etc. etc.
I sort of met Teller in Burbank in April 2019. He was taking a meeting the afternoon I quit my job at a company that purports to make costumes and props.
He plays string bass, years ago I had several string bass students I taught them Penn Gillette's Circle of 4ths, from a youtube video he had done 25 years ago.
The audience member turning into teller blew my mind when I saw it. I am so used to watching stuff online my first impulse was to try and rewind a live event.
Cool. He's from Greenfield, MA right down the road from South Deerfield where Yankee Candle is. I work in Agawam 45 miles south. Be up in South Deerfield once the foliage hits peak.
I'm amazed how many similarities I have with Penn Jillette. we both have a love for Rock and Roll music. I'm curious who his favorite musician is? we both have an aversion to lying. I was kicked out Tenth grade for a stupid reason. I love the reference to Mike Tyson and the Hangover movies. they are my favorite we both are atheists. about the only difference, is that he never has been involved with drugs, me not so much another area that I might differ with him. is my ability to perform magic. I'm not able to fool people nor do I have the skill of sight of hand. would like to meet him possibly some day.
Sound sync is slightly off. This is really disturbing to see Penn's lips still move slightly after he is done talking. Surprising to see a set with some money behind it (it is clearly not a teenager's room with a green screen) having such basic issue.
I think it is more of a RU-vid issue, a glitch during uploading. I see it all the time on various channels (and some of my vids that work fine on the PC).
I know what you mean because they have a digital "de-interlace" on many conversion programs but as a video production guy I wanted to point out that "de-interlace" does not truly exist. It's almost like saying "make that SD video an HD video"...
*Terrible interviewer. Why ask questions that have been asked a million times already, in other interviews? (Where did you and Teller meet, what's your favorite trick, etc). If you liked this interview, there are much better out there.*
