Recently got my new Penn Senator 12/0 in the mail and just wanted give you guys a break down of my first thoughts, please leave any advice or tips regarding the 12/0 in the comments!
If your still interested in drag upgrades Bryon Young makes drag upgrades for many of the senators. He makes custom thinner metal washers to save space in the drag stack to allow extra carbon drag washers for more friction surfaces over stock. I have 2 of his kits in my 9/0s and they will go just a bit past 40lbs at a full spool now but will give extremely smooth drag also at lower more typical settings. I also coat all the washer with just a bit of cals or shimano drag grease. Keep up making the awesome videos bud! Water will be warming up soon!
It is a Penn 12/0, single rod frame posts. 14/0 and 16/0 have double rod frame posts, and are much bigger diameter plates. I have three 12/0, they are developed from old 10/0 reel. Yours looks like 1960s model, strong sturdy reel. I loaded mine with 120 lb braid base and 130 lb mono top, 2100 yd total. 40 lb star drag needs upgrade to 60 lb, or facing spooled when a 1,000+ lb shark takes a ride from shore/pier. 12-13 ft Pacific great white spools me easily. 😝
I just bought a Penn Senator 12/0 reel and what looks like a custom made rod, all ready to go (from a friend). Haven’t used it yet but she’ll see the ocean soon. First impression: … one of the heaviest reels I’ve seen yet, I’m guessing 12 to 14lbs alone. My reel shows what model it is (12/0) on the right (crank handle & hook-set lever side) I’ll attach some photos if it helps. Enjoy your fishing and let us know how it went. The 22lbs drag sounds quite light in my opinion & maybe that explains why so much line capacity with this reel. I’ll let you know how mine went. Bob.. from east coast Massachusetts.
The 2 reels are probably made back in the 1950s or the 1960s you probably should buy some fishing reel grease and oil and clean out the old grease and check out the drag washers on both reels if you're drag washers are bad you will have trouble holding a big fish nice peen reels you have there and thanks for the video.
@@christophervela5447 Hmm I don't think I can splice my lines together since I'm using standard PowerPro, but I will definitely do some research on the Bimini twist!
