Excellent video with easy to understand step by step instructions. Using this video, I was able to tear down the reel to determine the issue I was having with my Slammer 3 7500 (The Pivot arm broke inside of the bail arm assembly). Ordered the part and replaced it and is not good as new! Also went ahead and serviced the reel while it was torn down. Thank you!
Nice video. Magnetic screw driver works and for the main seal got a great tip using a hair drier to make the seal softer. It will flex into position better when warmed.
Hi! Thank you so much for the video! 😊 I see you use Ardent reel butter grease. How often do you lubricate that reel with butter grease? I ask because butter grease has a low viscosity, and i myself consider using it in my reels..Thanks 😎
Solid video. So I’ve got mine broken down however upon reassembly I noticed that I have 3 extra washers that if I can remember right came out of the pinion gear assembly, 1 seeming to be slightly larger than the others. I put the 2 spacing washers ontop of the bearing collar. Not sure where these other 3 washers go? The rotor is extremely stiff so I know something is off. (The reasoning for this break down is due to the reel getting superrrrr stiff on me at the end of this past season. Any suggestions on what would cause this?
Sounds to me like they gave you too many washers. The schematic only shows one washer on top of the bearing collar and one on the bottom of the pinion gear. More times than not I take apart a reel and I have extra washers that are not reflected in the schematics. I suspect they crank these out of the factory in China and some reels get extra washers. This could be a quality assurance issue on Penn's part. I'd try putting only one washer on top of the collar and one at the bottom of the pinion gear. If it is still stiff, try no washer on the collar. If all else fails, send it back to Penn for service. I assume you didn't drop your reel or anything crazy?
I have only used my slammer 4 4500 a few times. After one trip it developed a bit of vibration. When I spun without the spool it spun like butter. Also it only vibrates if the reel is in a horizontal position. It does not vibrate when it is pointing up. Any idea what the problem is?
Why does my slammer tick when under tension? Its brand new and I used guarantee ,they sended me brand new again. And this one also has some ticking noise when i use spinnerbaits, crankbaits for pike fishing?Hate that feeling of ticking.....
The schematic I'm looking at only shows one shim washer. That said, in reality it always seems to vary. I've taken apart a lot of Penn's and it's usually a free for all on washer counts. In other words, what comes off the reel doesn't necessarily reflect what the schematic says. My assumption is that two will work just fine. Thanks for stopping by!
Hi, I am having issues pulling the side plate off once you take the three screws out. Typically it pops out with a little wiggle but no luck. I am afraid something is wrong with it so I just left the reel, I hear some grinding noises now when I put it back together. Any ideas?
That is a common issue with the side plate. With all the side plate screw’s removed, I take a micro flat head screwdriver and pry the seams gently apart in various places. Take it apart and follow the assembly instructions, hopefully the grinding goes away. Something may have come loose when you were working on it.
