I have 6 squall 30vsw's and 2 50vsw's for my trolling spread. Same internals as the international series reels. I really like them. I've never had any issues
Everything about this reel is great! The drag is good, the amount of line it can hold is great, and the price is great too even though its $250.00 you would be paying over $500.00 for a Penn International that is about the same size. You cant go wrong with this reel! :)
ive had this reel for a while and its great its definitely worth the money and will last a long time. Penn makes very durable and reliable fishing products click the link in the description if you want to order the reel because its the cheapest I could find online. hope this helps and tight lines :)
I just picked up a pair of the Penn 30s, same as yours, on eBay, for $560 USD, so about the same price. I am on Vancouver Island, and they are going to be my halibut reels. Have not had a chance to use them, but I can tell they are going to work really well. Very well made, I have 100lb braid on both, I figure that should do the trick
When you store that reel when not in use make sure to leave it in free spool to save the drag system. I always put all my ld reels in free spool with the clickers on I even take the drag pressure off of my star drag reels and put the clickers on cause if you leave the drag on full or on during storage it is putting unnecessary pressure on the carbon fiber drag with can cause premature breakdown
I would choose senators over squall just because of reliability and quality also because I have a 12/0 and 14/0 but I love the way the squalls look I will probably get the 50 after a while
Hi, could you let me know what kind of line you use and the measurements. Mono filament or shagged? How many meters of line? Measurement of line 0.45mm? Thanks for the info and good fishing.
I looking for a new reel but I have two choice between Shimano Tyrnos 30 2 speed and Penn Squall 30VSW can you tell me what I should choice it? thank you.
ive never used or reviewed the shimano tyrnos before but I can tell you that the penn squall vsw is a great durable reel. ive used it a lot and holds up great. The 2 speed is an awesome feature and im positive this reel can handle big shark. wish I could tell you more about the tyrnos.
i fishing in spain, need two reel left handle 1º for kayak medium size 700-900grs as squall 60 ld is good? 2ºand other for coast as your reel or 50=1500grs or okuma solterra for sharks or big tuna, but penn not have left handle size 30-50!(only avet but expensive)........you used braid model? I think used 600yds/50-60lb for squall ld and big size 1000(or more?) the 80lb tuff line, suflix 832, j braid x8 or x4 more cheap...regards
for shark reels you don't have to worry about the line getting twisted because you dont really cast that far and your probably using 65+ lbs line which wont tangle as much as the 15lbs test.. just make sure when you spool your reel that you make sure the line is tight because you can fit a lot more line on the reel. hope this helped if you need anymore info feel free to leave another comment
To be honest this reel is already preety big if you want to catch a shark thats 10 foot+ then get the 50. Go into your local fishing store and look at the size of these reels so you know if you need the 30 or 50. These reels are very nice durable and can handle a lot of big sharks.
