I never knew I needed to see an eccentric weirdo like Siegried Tieber interact with the silent Teller... I belly laugh everytime I see Teller's face and Siegfried matching the drama with his weirdness... it's amazing, hilarious, and I can watch it all day... again...

As far as I understand the show, Penn and Teller cannot guess at much as they want but kind of have to settle for one explanation. The trick itself is probably simple as some commentators pointed out, but using the waterfall to let them choose the card really felt like he was using a force there (that was also my first thought). He probably included that deliberately and specifically to throw P&T off. So you could say it was some kind of second order misdirection... He explicitly included a technique in order to lure them onto a wrong track. All in all, beautifully done! Chapeau!
@runethorsen8423

A clever move to include it, he definately deserved to fool them when he has the guts to show up with an "impossible" cardtrick and dont shuffle the cards ;)
@joejester61105
@joejester61105 6 лет назад
The simplicity of this trick is mindbogglingly...but the presentation is amazing. He knows the identity of both cards at 1:55... all he needs from his memorized deck is the bottom card in his left hand (6 of spades) just by looking at this card, he, knows the two cards underneath the 8 of diamonds and the 8 of hearts. To determine whos is whos...all he needs is to separate the cards in to two decks....then, when he lays out the cards and asks (whos card is in this deck) and Penn says mine, he takes a sneak at the laid out cards for which 8 is there ( 8 of diamonds in this case). Now he knows Penn has 8D and Teller has 8H. The brilliance is the extra theatrics to make the two forget he might have snuck a peak....the longer the trick goes on, the further it fades in their mides if they caught it. In this case, the waterfall shuffle was the obvious guess from the get go, so they probably werent even looking after that. Simple trick.

Ok it is a red card force + math . When he opened his card you can see that he arranged the red cards in the bottom in the middle and in the top . When pen said stop he stoped in the middle red . But it is not totally a force because he could stop at the bottom red cards or the middle or the top . The most important that it is red , after that he start the math . Great trick 🤘👍☺

The key part about this trick is that he did NOT shuffle in the beginning. The placement of the cards was already known. That is why when he asked Teller to take a card, it was immediately the card after Penn's. That is why all he had to do was know Penn's card and Teller's would be the next card. Now, how he knew Penn's card? I'm still working that out.
@sugarhighwhoo
@sugarhighwhoo 6 лет назад
As rusell said, it was a stacked deck. But also the most important part is the order which they took it out and put the cards back in. Since penn took his out then teller right after, when they put them back with penns card first, it reverses the order. By him knowing the order of the stacked deck, it's very easy to find the card out of place.

If he is wired then that makes everything easy. All you need is to show the card to his accomplice (1:55, when he spoke to alison)

He sneaks a peek at the bottom card when he wags his finger at Allison, which will be on top of tellers card when the cards are put back. Easy trick but the thing that makes this trick so good is the presentation and his character.

It is possible to determine number of cards left in hand by weight and thinkness with enough training. That is how he knows Penn's card. Taller chose exactly the next one. It is possible to memorize the order of cards. Notice that he did not shuffle in the begining. That is how he got teller's card.

Found out by chances, If you look at the cards at 4:08, doesn't the order of the cards reminds you of something? * To fellow magicians.
@enilenis
@enilenis 6 лет назад
Haha. Slippery move. First part that gives the trick away is that the magician does not perform a single shuffle prior to the selection being made. That means the order of the deck is memorized prior to the game. Dead giveaway. The shuffles afterwards don't matter. When cut like that, one card will always be in the odd pile and the other in the even pile. That part is no trick. Just mathematics. But the dead giveaway is at 1:55, where the magician addresses Allison and only once brings a card close to his line of vision and it's almost sideways, but just enough for him to notice what it is. The moment he knows the card that is next to Pen and Tellers, he knows the other 2 cards as well. The rest of the trick takes no effort.When Pen spoke of the waterfall technique and then revised his answer he proposed that either the magician had one card in the deck stick out, so he could control the release and catch it. He was, after all, slightly off Pen's call to halt, so Pen though the selection was forced at that point. Magician said "no". Then Pen implied that the trick was still in that selection part, and that magician simply could count the cards with his fingertips and knew the number. Magician interpreted the hint correctly and truthfully admitted that it wasn't the part that made the setup work. The trick was to look not for the 2 cards selected, but for the next one in the sequence and to bring it to the line of vision, while Pen and Teller are distracted with their selection process and Allison is looking magician into the eyes and pays no attention to where he is waving his hand. Notice, that when the card is slightly tilted towards the magician's line of sight, he sees the face, the Allison does not. She sees the back, so the observation doesn't jump up at her. That's basic psychology. Additionally, notice how the magician keeps himself relatively low to Allison's line of sight and stands closely to her. Why? Because it allows him to bring the much needed card higher and it enters his view before it becomes visible to Allison. Brilliant technique, if you ask me and no lazy effort. Many fine touches and the most brilliant simultaneous triple distraction ever pulled off on Pen and Teller. Didn't fool me though!

@MichaelRosmer

No, the method doesn't require any peeking at all it's very simple. He knows the order of the cards and gets Penn and Teller to change the order of the cards they select. It's the fact that they select cards next to each other then reverse the order when returning them to the deck that's the giveaway. From then on it's just presentation.

This is simple. You guys in the comments made it so complicated. Once they told him to stop he knew already their cards. The rest is just an act. He memorized the order of the cards. He never shuffled till they selected their cards. He was counting while he was making the cards falls. So the moment Penn said stop the show was over because he knew thats it is the 8 of diamonds on the top followed by the 8 of hearts.
@MichaelRosmer
@MichaelRosmer 4 года назад
Not exactly. It is a memorized deck but he's not counting cards that's insanely difficult to do. Instead he gets them to reverse the order of the cards, which gives him his tell.

Surely this must be a pre stacked deck? He never shuffles at any time. If you stop the video at 1:02. You will see the two eights. Both in order followed by the black six. This is all pre stacked I believe. Is that the same six the he so obviously momentarily takes a sneak peek at when talking to alison? Either way. Mad skills on this guy. I think he knows the position of the cards since it Is never a shuffle involved. And the six that he takes a sneak peek on is the key to his trick. Now if they go for another set of cards. Then he still has memorized it because of the positions of the cards. Someone mentioned that the key also lies in when he asked who's card is in what pile. That way it really is a 50/50 on who had the 8H and who has the 8D I believe.

Great piece of misdirection. Cards were prearranged. He peeked tellers card in Allison's eyes. Then he understood penn's card on the basis of his arrangement order. Rest of the act is only a good presentation. The only mistake I think is 2 eights arranged to be placed together.

@@runethorsen8423 a force would be a lot simpler indeed. Just look at the half he fans out: if there was an obvious pattern, I think P&T would have caught it. And for the life of me, I cannot see a pattern in that, so if he memorized the deck, is has to be in a relatively random card order. So even when we suppose he does the same trick daily with a deck stacked the same way, it is still a huuuuge feat of memorization
@tomcads1604
@tomcads1604 6 лет назад
Btw, I do think that all the cuts and everything he does for the reveal is irrelevant anyway, because you can see him peeking at the 6s, so the card in the position the deck was cut to give them their cards. If he really has memorized the whole stack, he knows right then and there which cards they got. As pointed out in other comments, he could also be showing the 6s to an assistant who will have the deck list and just give him tge solution via a head piece
