Good Luck Guys, I first did this in 1976 prior to joining the Army and it toook 12 days campig along the way, love every step of the way. I return to the Pennine Way after I left the Army in 1976 and managed to do it in 10 days. Tony the Retired Hiker in Essex

Oh I almost forgot I was carrying a 30kg Backpack and followed the Earlier Route as devised by Wainwright up Grindle Brook then over to the Kinder Downfall NOT the newer easier route up the steps to Kinder Downfall.

After leaving Kinder Downfall I hit the Peat Bogs and boy some of them were very deep, so deep that I was often waist deep in black boggy peat. YES todays route and the stone/gravel paths are a vast improvement. My first days objective was Crowden YHA which I achieved at 6pm that first day after nearly 12 hrs hiking.

I will try to add my memories (with the aid of my notes from my Pennine Way Companion Book) as you progress to Kirk Yetholme. Tony the Retired Hiker in Essex.

@@user-TonyUK tony this is amazing to hear and I'm so glad you'll stick around to see the rest of the journey! It was a slog but I know how much harder it would've been in the 70's! The peat bogs were horrendous... Stick around and share so more people can see!

@@PenninePathfinders All the new lighter weight camping gear and rucksack would and been very welcomed when I did it with my 30KG Backpack and oh what a pity we never had digital cameras back in the late 1970s.
