In this video, we'll take a look at Pennsylvania's ABANDONED "Nu-Be" Drag Strip. This strip was once a popular place to race cars, but now it's abandoned and in ruin. #dragracing #abandoned #automotivehistory
Great video! My father-n-law is Duane in the video. My great uncle was part owner of the track and my mother worked in the consession stand ( white trailer talked about in the video). I've been on it several times, raced some friends on my dirtbike on it years ago and drive by it almost daily.
Good to come across this video. Many years ago Rod gave his collection of photos to copy that he had of local tracks. Good to see him again, and thanks again Rod.
Great video .. I am 73 and lived those days at the old drag strips with my Dad and my brother.. this was a wonderful look back in time .. Thanks so much ..
Cool to see the old "bones" of what is left of so many peoples weekends from back in the day! With all the insurance restrictions and the advent of the moto " it was someone elses fault so I will sue" shut so many of these places down. However these small local tracks kept the kids off the street and really kept them out of serious trouble. We need more places like this to make a return for our kids ...... 😊 my opinion anyway?
My Dad raced at Nu-Be on occasion. Normally raced at Sunset though. Sometimes Drag City as well. He had the Nu-Be class winner stickers on one side of his back window and the Sunset class winner stickers on the other. I remember that Captain Caveman car. It used to race at Sunset also once in a while. That white trailer was definitely the concession stand, I remember that for certain. I think my dad may have known Rodney way back when, I'm pretty certain of that.
Now THAT was an AWESOME show. New subscriber and looking for to more videos like this one. I’m an avid car collector/wrench and LOVE these types of videos.
I used to go to US 30 ( by Chicago) in my younger days. That was a great track. I have watched videos on that one. It's almost totally gone now... great memories there.! Thanks for this video.!
Love it!! It was guys like these who got me into drag racing in the early '80's, and the guys I remember to this day!! It's nothing today like it was back then, and they're great memories!! Awesome video!!
So many abandoned race tracks all over. Many towns had drag strips as well as ovals. Back then before massive sponsors, racing was a great way to have some fun without spendung a fortune. Thats what done me in.
@@backyardbarnfinds as of right now it will be july 11-13 in iola wisconsin. middle of nowhere but there are well over 1000 cars with a very large swap meet
Hi , TY great video. I built a car to race at englishtown or island dragway but life got in the way...Sad that young guys not into it. I grew up with muscle cars , Had a few , YES as gas shortage happened , you could buys great cars that were not wrecked for any where from 600 to maybe 2599. I am talking SHELBYS CORVETTES CAMAROS etc....Keep up these great videos TY again
Great video! Luv going back in time. I had relatives that raced midget cars way back (maybe the 1930's) on a track in Langhorne PA where Reedman Chevrolet was later built.
21:30 couldn't help but notice Rob (gentleman holding the pictures) looks like he just stopped working on his car in order to meet the guys at the ole track! LOL, the dirt and grease under a fellas fingernails always gives ya the real story? 😂 thanks Parker, its great to hear from the "local heros" of the day especially when they are such great guys! 👍
Hey,that piece of property for sale by any chance?they closed my local dragstrip(Atco)and my life as i know it stopped.if i had the chance to buy me a strip,I wouldn’t let it close down for as long as i was alive.
Sure did. I ran there in the early to mid nineties. Qualified for the bracket finals at Maple Grove in 92,93 and 94. I raced at a lot of tracks till we got the boat in 2007.
@@backyardbarnfinds not sure about land ownership. Depending on plant growth you can see the outline of the track, or at least use to before Rona season.
Never raced there but I did at Sunset outside of Mercer, and P.I.T.A. in Lowellville/ Wattsburg in Erie County. Check them out. Got a lot of trophys from both, actually sunset(Alex) still owes me a trophy from 1971. Bet I'll never see that.
