100 years ago the land here was left barren. Stumps and fire-baked earth was all that remained of the once primeval forest. The locals had taken to calling it "The Pennsylvania Desert" Today it goes by a different name...

Pine Creek Gorge is truly a beautiful area. Ty for bringing it to people's attention. And glad you mentioned the hardwood forests ( PA is also known as "Penn's Woods"). A sad demise for our forests was the Chestnut blight. ..the once magnificent American Chestnut trees were once a valuable asset. My father found a sapling trying to grow out of an old stump, he "rescued" it and we now have an American Chestnut tree growing in our yard.Thru care and attention it is thankfully thriving and producing delicious nuts. Thank you for sharing your video and insightful information 😊👌

I havent seen that one mentioned yet. I'll have to look into it, I know of a place along the AT near rt 501 that has a similar situation.

This is exactly what i want to do with my page. I want to explore pa finding all the hidden gems off the beaten path with my family. We have a cabin at the pa grand canyon and i know a bunch of beatiful places with waterfalls and swimming holes that most people dont know about. If youre ever into another trip to that area and want to get footage of of some remote locations let me know.

The canyon is absolutely top tier. Easily in my top ten favorite trips in the state. Bonus: It doesn't cost anything other than the gas and food of travel.

@@thomaswstorm That's the idea. Cant always afford to go on extravagant vacations but its not too hard to do day/weekend trips as long as you know where to go.

@@thomaswstorm both good choices! I'm waiting for the snow to do Valley Forge, helps to imagine the hardships in perspective of the soldiers at their winter quarters.
