Unfortunately, the Scottish teachers work within the egregious CfE (Curriculum for Excellence - or Curriculum for Excrement, as teachers call it), which was started by Labour, but the SNP had the opportunity to sideline it when they took over - they didn't, despite warnings from education professionals of its inapplicability to secondary schools. Like all UK teachers, the huge majority in Scotland do the best job they can while navigating school and government policies/decisions that make their job much more difficult. And please - the SNP government have been focused on independence since 2007, so it is no wonder that everything else in Scotland is falling apart!

Scotland certainly has many many things that it leads the UK on and is rightly proud of those achievements. Free tuition fees for students (worth around £40k per student) free bus travel for up to 22 years olds and those 60 and above. England lag far behind. Scotland paid for the Queensferry Crossing from it's own budget completed ahead of schedule and under budget. Free eyesight tests, free prescriptions, assistance for first time house buyers, far better childcare arrangements. What are the catastrophic failures you mention? Surely not as bad as the UK Govt wasting £37 billion on Track & Trace that didn't work or giving PPE contracts to MPs pals wasting many more billions.

In reality the benefits are provided because of far better financial management of budgets and wiser spending. We enjoy far better child care and care for the elderly and our youngsters now get much more help than any other nation in the UK.
