What made Singapore so thrilling was that Mitch was just a little off the rails, not as controlled as he usually is...this performance is completely controlled, every move he made was calculated and executed perfectly. I think they are both excellent performances, for opposite reasons! 😊
Honestly I think the orchestra really added something to their performance of this song. It makes it so much more dramatic and reminds me of Imogen's original version of the song.
The orchestra definitely changed things, I agree that they aren’t bad, but the beauty of Pentatonix is that they are a cappella, with occasional cello by Kevin. The orchestra took away from the performance in my opinion.

In the sense that he is a singer like no other before and found fame for that he already is, in a technical sense he is surreal, but they are very different, that's what make them both so special. If I wanted another Freddie I would go for Marc Martel.
I love Christus Factus Est and Pentatonix, so when I found out they'd done it I looked it up immediately. Love how Avi pauses before he hits that low note, like he KNOWS he's about to slay us all.
I was at this event: Magical!! They were all on like crazy and it was interesting to hear them sing some songs with a full orchestra. had to see AVI while I could!
This was fantastic as always, but Nothing will beat Singapore's performance!!! All of them just seemed on Fire that night. Mitch was on a whole other level, I melted at that smile he gave right at the end! But what also made it sick was Kevin and esp Avi, I've never heard his bass so raging before, it was Epic!
Wow!!! The resonance of the Hollywood bowl is astounding even for just vocal harmony because of it being concave in shape it makes Pentatonix sound more rich and full even before that they are perfection. Even on a RU-vid video you can hear it resonate like a bell, I have seen them perform this live in the UK and it blew me off my feet! This was spectacular I was having trouble breathing through the tears at the end.
Hello??? World class orchestra alert! That oboe going off on those background parts is WILD. Those trumpet high notes during the breakdown right at the end gives so much amazing emphasis to the rhythm! And those strings add a whole new layer of eeriness to the song that I think is only fitting for an Imogen Heap song! A M A Z I N G.
OMG Queen Mitch was on point! Long sleek lines with the suit, stunning hair and beautiful features. ❤️ I think the orchestra enhanced the song when they were adding accents, plucking, etc. But when the entire orchestra started playing accompaniment, it drowned them out too often and there are many minute details in the vocals of this song. I'd give anything to be able to have seen the Singapore performance in person!
I wouldn't say they should not ever perform with an orchestra but their arrangement needs to take into consideration all the instruments being featured in the orchestra so that they complement rather than obscure their voices, especially Kevin's beat boxing.
Marcus Salisbury I'm not so sure how I feel about it anymore. It's an honor to get to collaborate with other really good musicians, And I don't want to downplay how excellent this Orchestra is! The Conductor is very good at checking with Mitch, and vice versa, to make sure they're both on the same page with timing. I can't imagine what it's like to sing with a full symphony orchestra accompanying me! I guess if we want to see Pentatonix at alot of different style events, then we need to be versatile like they are. Granted, at awards shows I never EVER want them forced to be backed up by instruments! Those shows are for showcasing and honoring the best artists in the industry! Pentatonix is an A Capella group and they are 3 time Grammy winners plus have record breaking sales and platinum albums... I could go on, but I won't. In those instances it is hugely disrespectful that they have, at times, had instruments playing in the background. And we all know it wasn't their idea either! The only exception was Star Wars because it was a tribute and it was grand! They sang a capella for awhile, then the orchestra joined in. A better sound system allowed us to hear them over that orchestra and it was really cool! so, there you have it. TMI... 😁 LOL
+ctrljimin They are finding a new bass. Mitch's Dad had confirmed that on his twitter. But I agree that Avi is irreplaceable and that the synergy of the group with the new bass is different and will need time. I really hope later on in Pentatonix's future he will come back haha.
Damn. I've heard this song a million times but that intro made me tear up, they're just so damn good. I'm not really a believer in romantic soulmates, but if there's such a thing as musical soulmates, it's these guys ❤️❤️❤️
One of my faves of this performance. I prefer them without accompaniment but it was mixed in pretty well. Everyone seemed really into it and Mitch really commanded the mood of the song and also sounded flawless. I can't believe I didn't see this until now
Mitch's voice somehow sounds even better than the Singapore aha performance! It sounds clearer and like he's hitting the notes even more easily. HOW DOES HE DO IT...
All you dopes complaining about the orchestra fail to realize they're doing the July 4th Fireworks Spectacular with Pentatonix AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL, not a PTX concert for a bunch of bootleg youtubers watching on their phones/computers, FFS. And OTHER performers were there and it was THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL ORCHESTRA. OBVIOUSLY not a single one of you PAYS for their shows or attended this concert or you'd KNOW what it was about.
Kirstin's part in the intro reminds me of an encounter with a supernatural being...like a goddess residing under the lake. Her voice is that fucking gorgeous!
I would just like to share that although I can reach Mitch's amazing high notes in this song without sounding horrible or like I'm dying, they still sound ridiculously better when he does them because he's a queen and I love him so much
