For epic Avi lows and Mitch highs check out The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy... their second Grammy winner. Not to mention more awesome visual effects. :-)
You talk about how great the video was. It was recorded in a closet. Edited on Kevin's computer. Total budget $400. Kevin was in the glasses because his eyes weren't able to handle the contacts. This was their first Grammy
Both of these are older videos. "Somebody that I used to Know" was their first proper music video and, I believe, the first song they recorded in the studio. "Daft Punk" was recorded in a closet and the video was filmed in Avi and Kevins kitchen with a budget of about $400 - and it went on to win them their first Grammy Award and become one of their most popular videos. :)
Welcome to the Pentaholics, The group is amazing. Your reaction is why I love watching these videos seeing another person find the group and enjoy them. Many excellent choices be sure you watch them they are so good.
Mitch actually doesn't normally sing falsetto. Just very high natural tenor. A Counter tenor so he is able to go even higher into the falsetto range. It's great
Mitch has that Irish lilt - which is why he was perfect for taking the lead on the new EP track by the Cranberries (Dreams) Dolores did it all the time - being Irish
Eh Dolores' sound is more of a yodel, the vowels are more open and though the melodies are traditional, they're not as complex and don't have the improvised feel traditional lilting does
@@QofyReacts yeah, they pretty much do that medley in every concert they do. :) but I recommend reacting to their "Daft Punk - private performance" - it's live and done without mics... and it's just as amazing! here's the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tw4YCsHXKgI.html as for in concert - here's one from 2016: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I6IcccOtpAI.html
Because you mentioned loving the connection between Kevin and Avi, and also because you always seem to appreciate Kirsty's vocal, I would highly recommend Say Something. Features a KILLER lead vocal from Kirsty, and possibly my favourite Kevin and Avi duet - because not only do they beautifully work together to create the rhythm section as always, but they also duet via Kevin's cello, with Avi singing the double bass line. The fact that they remain so perfectly blended even when Kevin is using his *other* voice blows my mind.
I loved this reaction!!! I'm so glad that you reacted to these songs!!! Somebody that I used to know is a great song, but now you know why Daft Punk is my all-time favorite from PTX!!! Now you have to check out "Love Again" which is an original that is much in the style of Daft Punk, or at least that is what it seems like to me.... As always, great video! Thanks for sharing! I'll see you next time!
@@QofyReacts Yes!! I had a horrible work day today and your video came just as I was finishing up... it couldn't have come at a better time, really!!!! Thanks!!! 😊
Mitch is a counter tenor so he can sing notes higher than most sopranos. It's a very rare voice and something that he's born with. It cannot be learned.
I didn't realise (not being a huge fan of EDM/Daft Punk) that they did one of the tracks from the movie Tron...(think they may have also made a cameo appearance ? Someone will correct me if that's wrong )which was all fluorescent shades of blue...(they are apparently returning to score the third installment of Tron ) this video makes way more sense to me now knowing that piece of trivia. Love Avi's bassline in this one - they're all so talented, it makes me feel so very inadequate haha !
I discovered you today. I've watched several of your PTX videos and I have to say that I REALLY enjoy your reactions. I love that you get SO into it, and you try to explain the harmonies and the notes. I love that you re watch certain parts that you particularly liked. You are very entertaining and I truly enjoy your reactions. Also, your laugh is very contagious! Thank you so much for what you do.
Your PTX reactions are perfect! The enjoyment is clear, I appreciate that you pick up on their charm and personalities as well as the insane vocal talent. Us Pentaholics are a loyal bunch and I guarantee if you film more they will show up for you xD The songs where they interweave parts and sing bits and pieces is one of their specialties- another good example is their cover of Gold by Kiiara, filmed live acoustic and Mitch slays the solo!
Mitch is incredible with register changes from chest to head voice for example. That's what he did at the end of somebody that I used to know...the note at the end you were wondering about. It's a quick chest to head shift. Almost like a yodel I guess.
I am so glad I found you. You really listen to the subtle things that some people (like me) may not notice and then explain it. I'm impressed. Thank you.❤
Bruh! LOVED your reaction to Daft Punk ... they killed it, and you felt it .. I could see it wash over you while you were watching the video! LOVED IT!!!!!! Keep them coming!!!
You know I'm a die-hard Home Fry, but the Daft Punk medley is just incredible, both the music and the video. One of the videos that FifGen made with Pentatonix - Reilly and McKenzie Zamber (The Hound + the Fox) and Jimmy Bates, who's still an editor and videographer, and has edited all the incredible Quarantine edition videos that Home Free have been releasing since April - the creativity on a limited budget that they showed here still going strong.
I love your reaction and how you notice a lot. That’s why I’ll never get tired of listening to PTX. After having heard this hundreds of time, I still hear stuff I did not notice before. Intelligent, sophisticated, a true musical pleasure for the ears. They are sooooooo talented.
If you haven't seen the season 3 of the Sing-off, you can learn the evolution of them. They didn't know each other until 1 day before they had to go to the audition. The won
Sean ????? Eyyyyyy! I was starting to wonder how long before you came along here to the QoFy gang! Good you’ve finally made your appearance! I love QoFy’s reactions, I feel like I learn a lot about the techniques even though I’ve watched and heard it all about a bazillion times!
love your reactions... I'll leave a suggestion, i would like to see you react to Run To You by Pentatonix, I guess that's a original song by Avi Kaplan I'm not sure, anyway... Love all of your reactions, love from Brazil
You know how they do that? Beautifully - that's how! Also { who was it that said ?} " The notes that we hear are only 50% of what makes music. The other 50% are the silences - the spaces in between the notes." DUH! Kinda obvious when we think about it... Isn't it. It's just that some people do spaces better than others & Pentatonix are definitely 'Some of those People' ! = Complete mastery of that rise on the curve of the wave of sound to hover in breathless anticipation of the fall back into the next. Total Ear Candy. :) NB. Dimash is another Master of the use of spaces in between - except that you are already breathless from his delivery of the notes. Enjoy! L
OK just to let you know there is no heat in the UK. LOL it’s hotter than hell fire here in Chattanooga Tennessee. 92° today. Can’t wait to see your video.
That last note is a typical traditional Irish song technique ....we learned this at school back when I grew up in Ireland. ....very very traditional. ...it’s a lilt not a yodel .
Somebody probably said thi already but they did Daft Punk at home, in a closet and the kitchen and for $400. Just goes to show that it's the talent that matters.
Somebody I Used to Know wasn't too long after their appearance on The Sing Off, so Scott, Mitch & Kirstie were all 19 (although Scott may have been 20 by this point), Avi was 22 and Kevin was 23. This was one of their first professionally-produced videos, and was actually recorded in the studio, not live. Daft Punk was SUPPOSED to be professionally produced (both the audio and the video), but their booked studio time fell thru at the last minute. So they ended up recording it in a bedroom closet and shooting the video in Avi & Kevin's kitchen, editing it on an iPad, all for a production budget of $400...and won their first Grammy!! Kevin was supposed to wear the blue contacts also, but had an allergic reaction to them, so he had to wear the goggles instead. If you look, you can see that Avi's eyes also had a bad reaction to them, but he managed to get thru the whole shoot with them in. I LOVE your baton race analogy! I've never heard anyone else refer to it that way, and it's a perfect description!
Shoutout to the QofyGang! Great production on the Daft Punk video. Only PTX would even contemplate an a cappella rendition of Daft Punk’s music. Great reaction!
1500 subscribers! Wow! Congrats 🥳. And thanks for another reaction. Both of these videos were new to me, and I loved them. Not as much as I love the reactions though 🤪. You haven’t missed that HF released a new video tonight, have you?
They were 19 -20 I think....But young. Watch Havana and see how they have matured. They are so great! Daft Punk is so awesome.. so techno! love it so much! Thank you for your reaction. I love your high energy and excitement!
A dropped recording/contract label with Sony because they were considered unpramotable led to this amazing video and their 1st Grammy! $400-whatever props they had on hand-an apartment closet and kitchen-and an iPad to edit this video themselves! Insane!
Yeah... they are awesome. My little granddaughter was totally obsesses with their Winter White Hymnal... she learned to snap her fingers pretty proficiently at 18 months ;-) Check it out when you get a chance.. its followed by a tutorial on how to do the finger snapping.. waaay beyond me!
You want to trade? Yesterday, it was 31° (C) and RAINING here in central Florida (so 100% humidity). The heat index was 49.4°(C). This is the only time of the year that I miss western Washington (state), which has a similar climate to Great Britain.
Too hot! Lol, that's so cute! I'm loving your reactions from Vegas where it's averaging 115 degrees right now! But thoughts & prayers on your heat wave...jk!
Oh darn I missed adding this note. The $400 story is not quite accurate. That was just for make up and supplies. Fifgen production of the video was an additional cost. It was filmed in Avi's kitchen and recorded in the closet see article with photos. strobist.blogspot.com/2013/11/pentatonix-daft-punk-video-low-budget.html?m=1
I'm sure someone has told you but they made this video for $400 & filmed in one of their closets! If you like acoustic check out their version of Gold by Kiarra-you'll die! Also, you should checkout Kevin's solo stuff-I'd start with Down!
Hey....! The new PTX original, Be My Eyes is out and you would really love Kirstin. She wrote it and it's a solo! I would highly recommend it! It is Awesome!
It's a ways down the road since you did this one, but hopefully you'll see this. I have a comparison video I'd love for you to check out. About 1 months after Pentatonix released their cover of "Somebody That I Used To Know", Peter Hollens released his own. Just comparing the videos alone is like night and day. Peter has been such an innovator, and this one he did almost foreshadows techniques PTX would used not long after. I only just ran across Peter's cover about an hour ago, totally by accident (while I was re-watching the cover of "Poor Wayfaring Stranger" he did with The Swingle Singers back in mid-2011 (before PTX even formed)). Definitely check it out. So different both from Gotye and from PTX. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Qt74jX2C1m0.html
Been loving your reactions so far! Would like to see your reaction to Ptx Love Again (one of my favorite songs) and Todrick Hall feat Ptx Wizard of Ahhhs
I love watching your reactions to PTX. Thank you. Mitch is amazing. You may enjoy watching their video of "Gold". You may want to watch the original artist's video first.
