On April 14th during their 2016 tour I was able to meet Pentatonix back stage at Orlando and get a private concert of their Daft Punk mix. This is all thanks to the Make a Wish foundation!
If you don't appreciate the amount of talent in this video then you don't understand vocal music. It's one thing to not like their style, but it's freaking hard to sound this good live in a tiny room. Their pitch and tone is impeccable, their blend is close to flawless, and they accomplish a rounded full sound with only four people singing. The talent it takes to pull this arrangement off is more than a lot of people realize...
Drew Poole sometimes when people think band sound amazing live it’s because they aren’t very good at music though lol It’s very ironic. They are really good, they’re not like some of the best vocalist of all time. I don’t know why you would expect them to not be this good there professional vocalist you have been saying for years together
It's cuz he was singing in falsetto (something you can do all over your range). It gives a really good soft tone well suited to bass notes, works well when mic'd but doesn't really project.
Amazing. Kind of a shame how the phone's mic does no justice to their talent, especially how it struggles to pick up Avi's notes. I-m sure witnessing it in person was just breath taking.
I Wont Tell You My Name yeah. Kristie is not noticed a lot (only when she has a solo) but Mitch usually does the high notes which makes Kristie underrated 😪. And people mostly (not really me) like the singers. I like all of them the same
You know what.the official video is phenomenal, but doing Daft Punk raw in front of a few people like this and nailing it perfectly is freaking mind blowing. PTX is seriously otherworldly.
There was some guy who asked what mic I used to record this. I accidentally deleted your comment when I tried to click reply. Sorry :(. This was recorded on my brother's IPhone
well, technically speaking, everyone in the music industry does stuff to their voice. no professional and final recording on an album is "clean" or "untouched." literally every professional musician since it's creation uses reverb/echo/chorusing on their final recording. even if we can't detect it, it's there. they can't do that live to the extent that they do in the recording studio ( the mic is hooked up to other mixers, but you can't do another part over again if you screw up) so if you want to know if someone is legitimately a great vocalist, you go to a concert and hear them or watch a video that you know is just their stripped down voice. on a side note, pentatonix is amazing.
I am so thankful that this video exists for those people who don’t believe PTX can recreate these amazing arrangements live. This is such a great example of how good the 5 of them are, this song is already insane and for them to be able to just belt it out just standing in a room with no mics or anything it just blows my mind. My respect, love and appreciation for them have gone through the roof after watching this 💓💓💓💓
I've never heard them sing Daft Punk off mic before. Friggin hell!! This is absolutely incredible. I LOVE their off mic performances so much ❤❤ Stuff the haters...
As a bass guitarist, there's a little hand gesture from Avi I want to quickly point out at 0:48. Avi holds up his fretting hand (right hand) and plays fingerstyle (left hand). It's *air bass!* He also does it again at 1:19, 2:45 and 3:50.
These are some of the only people today left in the industry that can actually sing in real life. And by that I mean that even without autotune and mics, they still have loud voices and they are on key. Thank you PTX for bringing back real talent.
Holy crap you guys!! I just woke up and this got 2.5k views overnight!? Edit: Why is there so much hate here? Just trying to share an awesome moment made possible by some amazing musicians.
They never get tired of magic they make together. Few people would apreaciate just how much work goes into constructing an arangement of a song that they can perform at ANY venue PA or no PA. The camera mic does not do the base parts justice. Beatboxing without a PA is totally different, yet its all there. on top of that they improvise licks inside the arangement... mind blowing. They say the Marx Brothers would prepare for a movie by refining the script in live performances for a year.... that is the level of commitment and discipline I see in the Pentatonix... talk about raising the bar!
This would have been an incredible experience!! I experienced Private Performance (early in my becoming a fan) when they performed 'Valentine' and I was blown away by their impeccable talent!! I was shocked silent. Almost a year-and-a-half year later, I am still amazed by their growth and talent! They are special and amazing talented kids!
What the fuck are all these commenters on about? This is actual talent, the fact that these 5 people can come together and produce something like this is pretty great.
JessieGirl0405 Well they've performed this song for the past 4 years in every tour i think they have it clearly memorized by now lol but yeah it truly is amazing!
I refuse to believe that their voices are THIS FUCKING ACCURATE and exactly like on the studio version when singing completely live without proper microphones
They are so wicked, to be able to produce the same effects of mic is incredible. This hate is ridiculous, their clothes have nothing to do with their performance and are a mechanism of self expression. A better form of self expression then writing hate on a video undeniable talent.
Damn it Mitch!! why i automatically cry when i heard you sing high notes as main voice?, also happened in the video of "We are young", is involuntary, damn it!!!!
It's crazy how good they sound with no mics recorded on a cellphone. 🔥🔥🔥👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 That's how you know they are amazing, even without any external help that performance was bad ass.🤟🏾 The small applause at the end. They gave it their all with such a small crowd. Respect!
First of all, I've been in acapella groups for around 8 years and in the church choir as well. I concur the fact that it's extremely hard to make a good A Capella without any effects...and these people make it look so easy... W.O.W.!!!
WOW this is STUNNING! You would think I'd stop being blown away by their performance after hearing multiple versions of this arrangement over many months, but no- this is incredible! I anyway have a weakness for their off mic performances :) I hope you enjoyed your time with them and am so happy you got the opportunity! Thank you for sharing part of your experience with us :)
The fact that they can do this so well live is impressive. It's usually much harder to make something sound particularly good live, especially without equipment.
To those that stand beside Pentatonix, when there are those that throw shade and continue to do so, know that they are trying to get you upset. They want to see you fight back. That's not the way of Pentatonix. Ignore the insults. You are only allowing them to continue the insulting. Let it go. The ones that are anything know who Pentatonix is, have respect for Pentatonix and enjoy listening to Pentatonix.
Caroline Lewis I totally agree :) just enjoy how amazing their performance is. They didn’t revive a capella from the dead for no reason did they? Just let it go...let it go. *covers mouth and tries not to sing*
Pentatonix is by far not the only group I like listening to, even though they are one of the best. I also like Rockapella, Home Free, and Citizen Queen. All four of them are good.
Let's see...standing in a random room next to the bathroom stop and sing and sound better than virtually anyone I've ever heard. That song, the official one is so technologically complex, I was like, OK, lets hear what this sounds like. There is a word called "gobsmacked" the brits use meaning utterly astonished, astounded. Do you hear how they achieve an actual tension across their voices at points in the song...like a guitarist pulling the whammy bar on a note...and they are doing it together, with their voices alone providing the tension...standing in a random room next to the bathroom with obviously no real prep. You truly have NO IDEA of how this group is...was, particularly in their first iteration of which this is an example. They do the whammy bar thing the first time at 34 seconds in... At 1:42 listen for the little tremolo. That is multiple voices working in unison to create that. At 2:25 listen to how the voices work together to create an effect as they "compress" the note... These are just little examples within this song of skills as a group that are amazing... They function as a gestalt. If you pulled the guy doing the percussion elements...with his voice...it would not be the same... Awesome.
I think it's great that PTX honored this make a wish request. They are genuinely good people. There harmonic voices are a true talent. Amazing how they make all those sounds without instruments. Just amazing!
whenever anyone tries to say that Pentatonix don't sound like their recordings, SHOW THEM THIS!!! I saw them live in May, they're so talented I love them so much!! 😍💖
Finally, I get to see all of them at once and SEE (not just hear) who is doing what. I love the official "Daft Punk Medley" video, but it's hard to watch everything and everyone. This is great! Thanks for requesting this song.
One of the most amazing live performances i've ever seen, from tuning to volume sync of each one, in some ocasions it feel as "mixed" even being live... AMAZING!
