Don't be afraid to pause when you want to make a comment. We're here for your comments and opinion, after all. ;-) I, for one, like hearing your thoughts as they come to you. Trying to save everything for a final analysis and you might forget a point you wanted to make. I would recommend running it back a few seconds after each pause, though, so you don't miss the flow of it (for your sake more than ours). You're doing a great job!
Thx for saying. Yes, true. I just know when I have watched other reaction videos on a song I love, I hate when they pause in the middle of the climax type thing. Don't want to do that on my own videos. :)
@@lukashasselNY I feel you on the don't want to stop at the wrong spot. I've found that if the reactor rewinds the song maybe 10 or 15 seconds, it's normally far enough back to get the whole climaxing phrase of the song in its entirety (if you were unlucky enough to pause at the absolutely worst time). It makes it better for me at least :)
I agree with all of the above! I want to hear your thoughts, and of course you don't want to talk OVER the video and miss so much good stuff, so pausing is the way to go (also helps avoid copyright problems, I think). And then rewinding a bit helps you get back in and hear the complete phrase. This is my first time watching you react, and as soon as I finish this comment, I'm hitting "subscribe." I like your style!
i love the offical video of Bohemian Rhapsody , and i love Come Along, such a fun song. i have listened to both several times, each time i notice something i didnt notice watching them before
Really liking your reactions. Welcome to the Pentaholic community! 😊 You can always tell by Mitch's look what "era" of PTX the song/video was released in. He's our little chameleon, he changes his looks a lot and tricks people who are new to the group into thinking that he's a different person in multiple videos. Lol 🥰
Mitch did lose a bit of weight and changed his hair a lot, so there are several completely different versions of him :D. A lot of Pentaholics can tell you when exactly a video was made by looking at Mitch. If you want to see another faster song, I recommend Cheerleader (with Avi) or Attention (with Matt). Both of those songs, or specifically their rendition of it, always make me dance and smile.
I love the way you have taking the time to research the band before doing the reactions. It makes it a fuller experience to understand what they are doing before hearing the songs. I have a suggestion, its a little Christmasy but it's a great song, "Mary Did You Know"....Worth the listen.
You’re correct about their diversity. They cover everything. I suggest “gold”... it’s just a personal favorite. Or their evolution videos are always a good start as well. :)
Gold is another fantastic example of a song that was originally produced with a lot of technical intervention and they just nailed it with straight vocals. Highly recommended!
Great reaction! I love “re-discovering“ Pentatonix through sharing others’ experiences. As for next videos: “The evolution of music” if you want lots of different styles/pieces, “gold“ for pure artistry, “Bohemian Rhapsody“ for musical ingenuity. Anything you watch/react to you are bound to enjoy so just have fun with it!
I would like to suggest their collaboration with Todrick Hall on “The Wizard of Ahhs.” It’s an older video but absolutely amazing as they use modern songs to retell The Wizard of Oz.
I love your commentary about Pentatonix. I am a Pentaholic! You have barely scratched the surface. Definitively review Imagine, Bohemian Rhapsody, can’t Help Falling In Love (Elvis) and Mary Did You Know (Christmas song). They also did a cover of Ed Sheehan’s song “Perfect” that is good. Let’s face it.....all their stuff is good. I’m also an Avi lover as well. He has some good original stuff on RU-vid. Definitely different from the Pentatonix vibe but still good. “Otherside” is my favorite of his.
Watching you discover Pentatonix brings back a tiny bit of the thrill I had discovering them. I've watched them since their SING OFF competition. On the off chance you have a moment, you could watch Scott Hoying and Rossi's (a friend) original LOSE US. So good, so underrated. Edited "Rozzi"
They won the Grammy for their arrangement here. Fun fact-this arrangement has been adapted for marching band! I heard a band perform it at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York on tv one year, and a French military band played it for Macron on Bastille Day a few years ago.
Another great one to watch that has some similarity to Daft Punk is Love Again, it's an original! Their next Grammy was for Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. They have such an amazing catalog of songs. Welcome!!!
GOLD cover-it's a live recording done in one take. Not in front of an audience, but live in the sense of microphones recording them in real time, not pre-recorded, done from beginning to end live. It's brilliant. You MUST hear it. Recorded when Avi still was in the group.
Should definitely react to Imagine next, or Gold. Also if you are liking Pentatonix you should check out Mitch and Scott's side project Superfruit. Their Hip Hop Goes Broadway videos (two of them) are a lot of fun, and their cover of Rise is so powerful.
There are a couple of good suggestions already on your next reaction - all of them are good! Watching their Sing Off performances would be my personal recommendation - mrduckbear11 is the channel you'd want, without skipping intros, judges comments, or outros. First, because fans will yell if you do, lol, but second because you can see how they use the evaluations to grow (this was a really good set of judges), and you get to see who they really are - has a LOT to do with how they've functioned as a group since and how they treat each other and their fans. Thanks for this! It was enjoyable and I found your comments interesting.
I’m so glad you found Pentatonix! My husband and I took our boys to their concert here in Cincinnati, Ohio 2 yrs ago! It was a great show! My boys had fun! Welcome down the a capella rabbit hole!! Haha
You should definitely check out Can't Hold Us. Its my fav and it's a lot of fun. Also NO, and Aha at Singapore Star Vista version. You won't be sorry lol
"Aha" in Singapore, required viewing!!! (Before you ask, yes, Kevin is in the performance but the person taking this video was pretty obsessed with Mitch, so you never see him!) :D
You made me log into Y-Tube for the first time in over a decade, Sweet Lukas! As has been said before, welcome to the rabbit hole that is Pentatonix, and those of us that consider ourselves Pentaholics! I will never actually suggest a video for you to react to, but for your own personal enjoyment/education on Pentatonix, I suggest you try to follow their journey along The Sing Off season 3, which launched their career and explains so much about them. This video in particular has them as "babies" in my eyes, where Mitch is so very young and dimple prone, and where my own eyes water to see Avi's red ones as they react to the contacts. Thank you for checking out this amazing group, and do you... stop as much as you want to address what you wish. This is your channel and your reactions, we love to see/hear them as they happen!
Love to see people react to these guys, they are awesome..for a different genre check out Home Free also an Acapella group leaning toward the country music. Avi does a version of Ring of Fire (Jonny Cash) with this group, also another group is Voice Play... and Citizen Queen. So much talent out there 😂
Agree! Home Free is not better or worse than Pentatonix, just different. They also won NBC’s “The Sing-Off”, in 2013, the year after PTX won. I was first introduced to Home Free with their rendition of “How Great Thou Art”. Even if you’re not religious, you can appreciate the magnitude and scope of what they did here. The video was filmed using a drone, and they did it in the Austrian Alps, when they were there at a festival. Facts about Home Free: they were formed in a dorm room by brothers Adam and Chris Rupp in 2000. They became bigger stars when they started doing mostly country music. They’ve had members come and go in 20 years. Before 2016, you’ll see Chris Rupp doing baritone. Rupp left for a solo career then. The only OG left in the group is Adam Rupp, who does most of the beatboxing and percussion. Rupp is arguably considered one of the finest beatboxers in the world. (Funny, though, on “How Great Thou Art”, he SINGS; since there’s not beatboxing!) His brother, Chris, was replaced by Adam Chance, aka “Chance” (since there’s already an ADAM in Home Free!) Home Free’s bass is Tim Foust. He’s a basso PROFUNDO, with a 5+ octave range. Adam Chance has a 4+ octave range. So so many Uber-talented singers. And Home Free fans are called “Home Fries”. So I’m proudly a Pentaholic AND a Home Fry!!
You would love their rendition of Imagine by John Lennon. Kevin sings in that one too! Extremely moving. Also, glad to see the headphones! Avi and Matt add so much to the harmonies.
I so cannot wait to see your reaction to Imagine! It’s probably one of my favorites and the message they deliver is so ridiculously important now more than ever.
When you’re rewatching, be sure to check out the Daft Punk Off Mic Private Performance. It will blow you away being able to see each part with zero editing.
There's also more recent live version, from a fancam at a concert last year! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vz4CFeWBiEQ.html. It's the opening song so there's a badass opening leading up to Daft Punk which starts at 1:10 :)
@@voiciterre3571 The off mic one is just cool because there's absolutely no effects, just the five of them in a room, so it really shows their artistry.
@@greenqueenjp I agree! It's also cool that they're still performing it all these years later, and the acoustics of a stadium make it all the more challenging to do live. PTX slays no matter what.
Ooh! Begin at the beginning! My sense is that burgeoning Pentaholic reactors really get a lot out of watching their Sing-Off performances. This is when the group formed, and it's amazing to watch them grow and deepen over the course of just 12 performances. There are a couple of lesser performances, but most are very good and a few are mind-blowing.
The truth is pick a song, any song, that they've done and it's a little gem. Or maybe not so little. For my money Hallelujah is their second best and Imagine is their best videos. They understood Imagine incredibly well and communicated its meaning with such visual simplicity and sonic beauty it makes me cry every time I watch and I've seen it surely over a hundred times.... So you have not heard Kevin the Beat Boxer sing yet, I suggest "Mary Did You Know?" to hear him at his best? I also want to point out though surely someone has said it, Mitch looks different nearly every single video, especially in the early days. And I said in a comment earlier, they are successful because they like each other and such are kind and caring people. I am sure you've already had the suggestion to react to their Sing Off numbers, about 13 of them in the course of the competition. The very best was Dog Days are Over #12 and you will get a ton of people telling you the other great ones. That is the way to see their evolution since Avi and Kevin were added to the core three just two days before they auditioned. Scott, Kirstie and Mitch were all 19. So you can't get much earlier than that.
The sing off show that they were on is the best one to see their growth. I think mrduckbear is the best place to go to find it. Please correct me if I'm wrong
I love how sweet and genuine your reactions are! You look so happy! Makes me smile. If you love this style of video, they have several more! An older one is „Love Again“, an originals of theirs, and a much newer one, that has Matt as the bass is „Attention“. Both have a similar type of video where you can really see what each of them are doing!
This is a link to a live version of this song that was done in a dressing room for a VERY small audience. All 5 on screen the whole time, no mics. You can truly see who is doing what in this song ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tw4YCsHXKgI.html
Another great reaction! As someone else said if you want to pause to comment please do! It helps if you back up a couple of seconds before you restart though so you don't miss any amazing transitions.
Most of their music videos are fairly simple - exactly for the reason you mention: so people can see what every one is doing in the song. But there are some bigger productions too. Can't Sleep Love, Sing, Starships, We Are Ninjas, Can't Hold Us, Bohemian Rhapsody, Making Christmas... But if you really want productions I'd suggest the music videos from Superfruit's album (Scott and Mitch' other group), like Imaginary Parties, Future Friends, Guy.EXE
Just want to mention that it is SO refreshing to find someone with an educated and mature opinion (and reaction!) instead of so many that are mostly trying to be silly, or talking, or singing (gasp!😱) over the music instead of genuinely LISTENING! Absolutely NO problem with you stopping to express what you love or observe.. of course your facial expressions say so much and are priceless!! There's nothing like being able to see someone appreciate something for the first time as much as yourself!
Thank you, so much, for this reaction! I've been eagerly waiting for it. Please, keep reacting to Pentatonix. I love watching you discovering them, and your pure enjoyment. I would, also, like to recommend Harry Style's mv of Adore You, the EXTENDED version. Not only because he is a great artist, but, given your occupation, I think you would highly enjoy the video itself.
It's amazing how easy it is to forget there are no instruments in these good a capella groups. Ben Bram is their producer/director/engineer. He also helps with arrangement, but unless I'm mistaken, he doesn't actually sing on any of their official videos.
Their Evolution Videos are mind blowing. They take an artist like Michael Jackson or Beyonce, or more recently Rhianna or Ariana Grande and sing bits of the artists' hits throughout the years, all done with great transitions and filmed all in one take. Incredible. Would be curious to see what you think of one of those!
Hello Lukas. I've only recently been introduced to Pentatonix (but got to see them in Brisbane, Australia this year!!) When I can't sleep I google around and listen to Pentatonix songs ... and came across your three reviews. Your voice is very soothing, you're easy on the eye and as others have said, your facial reactions to what you're hearing are a joy! I want you to listen to three things, even if you don't do a 'reaction' thingamy. 1. Pentatonix 'Mary Did You Know'. It's hauntingly beautiful like Hallelujah - you'll love it (and beat boxing Kev has a sing) 2. Superfruit 'Guy.exe'. Mitch and Scott are 'Superfruit' and have made a bit of music with quite elaborate fun videos. This is their best!! 3. Superfruit with Mario Jose, Mary Lambert and Brian Justin Crum 'Rise' (Katy Perry cover). The five of them singing Rise was done after the Orlando Shootings I believe, and is a shout out to the LGBTQ community. It's like nothing else and I am in tears each time I watch it. Just a simple video featuring only one singer at a time, but the incredible harmonising voices, and the depth of passion they obviously feel for their community as expressed in their voices and facial expressions says it all, without needing anything else to focus on - sears the soul! This insomniac really enjoyed your 'reactions' so thank you! Keep safe over there (it's a good time to be Australian :)
I’ve been a Pentaholic from the beginning. I LOVE watching you experience them. I am enjoying your reactions! Keep it up!! Subscribed and looking forward to more! Thank you
Im loving your PTX contents! Please consider reacting to their cover version of Imagine by John Lenon, they delivered such a powerful message on that piece.
Glad to see your listening with with the headphones , myself i can hear so much more with them. love your reactions. Again i would suggest IMAGINE a John Lennon Cover
Yes!! Imagine is done very simply (the visual part) but it shows their attention to detail and knowledge of how to use visuals to support and extend the music. Plus, it's just a really really well-done song :-)
Yup there is so much to take in. Great reaction to this! A similar one is their original “Love again”. Check out their version of Gold, be sure to review the evolution videos and a personal favorite of mine is Shallow with Kevin playing cello and beat boxing at the same time! Your appreciation will continue to grow as you experience more and then re watch to catch all the nuances. Now your hooked like the rest of us!
Timeline info: PTX released this video in December 2013, so it is part of their early work (their first EP was released in 2012). It was nominated for a Grammy a year later, in December 2014, and the Grammy for “Best Arrangement, instrumental or a capella” was awarded in January 2015.
Another RU-vidr takes a journey down the Pentatonix rabbit hole. It's a fun journey. You are already getting a lot of great feedback on their official videos. You should find some of their live performances and off-mic performances. Music teachers all over the US use their arrangements to teach high school students how to harmonize, breath, listen, and stay in tune during transitions. To that end, watch the off mic version of Daft Punk. They are in a cafeteria. "Run to you" they are in a church. The acoustics are great. And, "Aha" Hollywood Bowl with an orchestra behind them.
I agree with a few other comments, Aha! Live from Singapore Star Vista. Mitch, Avi and Kevin are insane in that video! If/when you do react to it, you won't see Kevin in the video but he does join them eventually. He was putting away his cello (named Beyonce). Plus, it's them singing LIVE so you will see that they sound just as amazing as in their videos. And glad to see you wearing headphones. I'm sure you noticed a huge difference!
Really loved your reaction to this. You comment about things of interest and are honest, and that's all good. One of their greatest strengths is that they appreciate what each person brings to every song, and so do we. You might want to check out their Evolution videos, where they do a medley of many of songs. The first was "Evolution of Music", which covers many artists over time. Other amazing Evolution videos are Evolution of Michael Jackson (which includes a solo by Kevin) and Evolution of Rhianna, with Matt on bass. But I think you were going to do Imagine next. See you in the next one!
Imagine is also a great one to listen to. Also, my personal favorite cover of theirs (and one that doesn't get many reaction videos) is Lorde's 'Royals'.
I have been a fan since 2011 when they won the 3rd season of the Sing Off. If I recall correctly, they formed the group a week or two before they auditioned which was the 1st time they performed as a group. Scott, Kirsten and Mitch went to high school together, and were only 19 when they won the Sing off. They were pretty terrific back then and have only gotten better. It is worth your while to watch each episode of the Sing Off.
I suggest Run to You written by Kevin and Avi. It is a slower tempo and so beautiful. Pentatonix has said themselves that this song can be interpreted in many ways. So whether you think it is religious or just about love either way is not wrong.
Welcome to the wormhole. It’s gonna be a great ride. Gold , bohemian, imagine every evolution video(MJ, Rihanna, Gaga to start), dancin on my own just for starters. We’ll talk later about Superfruit. Your reactions are genuine. Love it
Hi Lukas, I'm really enjoying your discovery. Makes me remember how I felt. Two of my favorite "older" videos are Can't Hold Us and La La Latch. Hope you'll look into them. Also, if no one has told you, you should check out their live version of Hallelujah from a few years ago on their (NBC?) Christmas Special. You can see how they sound just as good live as they do in the video. Greetings from Chicago!
Scott and Mitch did some reactions to their old stuff, and Mitch called this version of himself “Masc Mitch” lol. Love it! Great reactions! Pentaholics will tell you to watch all of their Sing-Off performances, and while it’s fun to go back, some of them are better than others and getting through them can be a bit of a chore. I would say give it a shot and see if you enjoy it, and if it’s too much just pick the handful of performances that people will recommend. Also it’s okay to break it up with some newer stuff so that you’re still getting your socks blown off and keeping up your enthusiasm. I don’t know if people are going to come after me for this 😬 but I’ve seen some reactors struggle through it and I want you to keep enjoying yourself because I am loving this channel and you!
Also, you may have already heard this, but if you’re enjoying the acapella vibe, Home Free has a similar thing going but they’re country. I am not typically a fan of country music, but they’re fantastic. They won the Sing-Off the season after Pentatonix did. They did “Ring of Fire” featuring Avi from Pentatonix and I highly recommend that one. Also their recent video, “Quarantine” is fun.
The Sing Off is great to see how wonderful they were from the first. They are better and much more polished now, but they started better than most groups ever achieve. I discovered them the second Christmas season of hearing Mary Did You Know and Little Drummer Boy. That second year, I started to realize they were acapella and it was a person doing the percussion. I became a Pentaholic right away. Be sure to check out The Wizard of Ahhhs. Todd went to the same high school as Mitch, Kevin and Kirsten. Must be something in the water in Arlington, TX.
If you are enthralled with their rhythm section then I suggest you react to their time on the Sing Off Season 3 to witness the “evolution” so to speak of their rhythm section forming. You must witness it to see where they started to where they are now.
If you want to see them do some stuff live definitely react to their evolution of music videos. They have many including evolution of Michael Jackson, Ariana grande, Beyoncé, and many others !
I'd suggest Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, or Love Again. I can't recommend Imagine enough- their version is brilliant and the video will grab you by the tear ducts.
Hi Lukas. Your mic was better in this video... ie no errant sounds. Nice to see you witht he headphones on! The Grammy they won for this, as good as it sounds, was for best arrangment. They put a cloth in a cupboard with backlights etc, and took turns filming then edited it together. They all suffered badly with reactions to the eye contacts in this especially Avi and Kevin. You can see Avi's eyes are red through the makeup. Kevin reacted so badly they ran to the corner dollar store, I read, and picked up the set of glasses he wore instead. I also read they either used a fledgling video company and cut a deal on the price. Pentatonix have stated that the video cost them $400 to do. You say you would like to see where they started... this was probably their first viral video, when they were called "The Trio", at school, and were asked to "do a little filler" while the choir got set up behind them. It's fair to say based on the crowds reaction they stole the show. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t2XBMWRK4Mw.html Thanks.
@@lukashasselNY Another thing, when pausing music videos you may stop just on a key change or a great transition, so when you resume just 'wind' the video back 10 seconds before starting. Thanks. Great review by the way.
I certainly enjoy your reactions to PTX Young Man and am looking forward to seeing more honest and heartfelt reactions to their Artistry when your time permits. BTW~ thank you for sharing your Artistry with the world also. Carry on...
People (Pentaholix) frequently miss suggesting "Cheerleader", "Sing" and "Royals"....I can't even sing along at the end of "Sing" because I'm welling up - Who's cutting onions!
If you love these guys, you should check out another a cappella group named Home Free. "Man of Constant Sorrow", "Ring of Fire", "Butts Remix", "Helplessly Hoping", "Mayday" and "Hillbilly Bone" are just a few that are wonderful!
Thank you for another reaction to pentatonix. They are totally amazing and i love them very much. I have a new singer for you . Her name is Angelina Jordan and she is from Norway and she is an amazing young singer that are in a league of her own. She was in american got talent the Champions at the start of this year and she started with singing boheiman rhapsody by queen. She has also in AGT done yellow brick road by elton John they are bouth songs that are worth reacting to and Angelina Jordan has a huge fan base just like pentatonix. I hope to see you react to Angelina Jordan . She is gonna blow your mind and she gonna suprise you. Loved your reactions
😂 loved the video and your reaction! I danced right along with you. 💃🏻 🕺 “One more time” 🎶 “legend of the Phoenix” 🎼 Love your production eye, it’s interesting and your communication style is spot on, probably why you’re such a good actor. 😊thanks for sharing, you’re one of my new fav’s!
One one of my favorite things is watching reaction videos by someone who is just discovering Pentatonix. It's really fun to watch people be utterly stunned! I'd cast another vote for "Come Along" -- it's SOOOOO different from anything. And their take on "Bohemian Rhapsody" is just a requirement, that's all. :)
Hello again from Australia! True this medley got them the first Grammy...you should check the song that got them their second Grammy: Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from The Nutcracker ...yes, Tchaikowski's ballet...I know, it is a pure instrumental piece which they play it with only one instrument: their voices.... and the video is very simple yet amazing. Would love to see you reacting to it ... :-)
This was made shortly after they won the Acapella show called "The Sing-off". This video was actually shot in one of there kitchen and closet. It cost around $400 to make and it won them there very first Grammy. If you like thia you should also check out there first original piece called "Love Again". A few others you should check out are: "Sing", "Come Along", "Making Christmas", "New Rules + Are you That Somebody", "Attention","Mr. Grinch". *note*- You might want to check out your balance of the treble and bass settings on you videos, because because the music part kind of have the bottom of the barrel sound to them.
Mitch is the chameleon of the group. He changes his look A LOT. LOL. He was bullied a lot in High School because of his voice and when they won the Sing Off and all moved to LA he started gaining weight. He wasn't happy with his weight or his look so he started losing weight. He dropped so much weight that he was borderline anorexic and people thought he had cancer. That is what you see in the Hallelujah video. He was way too thin. He got his health under control and loves who he is now and the way he looks, but he is ever changing. There is a time he also shaved his head (Or rather Scott shaved it for him-LOL) and he was bald. In The Sound of Silence, which was just done about a year and half ago, Mitch is sporting that mullet, but if you look at each one you can see they are getting older. There are sooooo many amazing performances for you to check out, I could make you a list but it would take too long. LOL. Here are just a few. "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy", "La La Latch", which is one of their medley mashups, "Havana", "Imagine", "Aha!" Live in Singapore at the Star Vista, "Can't Hold Us", "Mary Did You Know", "Shallow", "Someone That I Used to Know", "Problem", "Say Something", "No" "Gold", and they do a lot of medley's like the Evolution of Micheal Jackson, The Evolution of Music, The Evolution of Beyonce, and a ton more. Then their is some of their own songs: "Love Again" (which has a Daft Punk Vibe), "Run To You", "Sing". Like I said, so many. That should be enough to start you off with. LOL.
They have an extensive repertoire and lots of videos (over 150 I think). At some point, I highly recommend you watch all of their performances on The Sing Off so that you can see them at their beginning and truly appreciate their growth. Their 2nd Grammy was for "Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy" and Grammy 3 was for their collab with Dolly Parton on "Jolene". They have amazing covers of all sorts of artists and a lot of great originals (Sing!, Run To You, etc.). You have MANY hours of PTX videos in your future, if you choose to accept your assignment. This message will self-destruct in 5 seconds.
Hello Lukas! I'd like to suggest you Pentatonix "Run To You", an original one written by Kevin and Avi. It's a (very)slow ballad with an incredible arrangement. Stunning! I'd also like to suggest you something different: Diodato "Fai Rumore" performance in Arena di Verona. It's the Italian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest which has been cancelled due to the pandemic. Diodato performed in the Arena, the Roman amphitheatre in the city of Verona, near my hometown, that was completely empty because of the lockdown. Lots of chills... ❤️ I think you might like it even without understanding the lyrics. Thank you! Cheers from Italy!
Lukas. I've loved music videos since MTV premiered. RU-vid is like crack to me. As I've gotten older I've started appreciating the artistry and technical aspects of videos. Friends will ask me, "What did you do last night"? "I watched music videos for 3 hours." 😁During the pandemic I discovered reaction videos. Which, one day, led me to a vocal coach's reaction to Pentatonix' Hallelujah. Which then led me to to you and your reactions to other Pentatonix videos which I've enjoyed thoroughly.
If you're going to go down the rabbit hole of acapella, I recommend you check out Home Free, who won The Sing-Off the season after Pentatonix did. While they focus on country music, they mix it up with covers from other genres. Also, their bass singer, Tim Foust, is friends with Avi Kaplan - check out the cover where he guest stars, "Ring of Fire." (Headphones capable of handling deep bass strongly recommended.)
Enjoy your reactions! Love watching people discovering PTX for the first time and reacting to it. It reminds me the first time I heard them and I still get goose bumps listening. Here are my suggestions depending on what you want to listen to...Live - Hallelujah Christmas Special; Aha - Sinagpore; Original songs - Love again; Christmas - Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy; God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen; Covers - Bohemian Rhapsody
Hi Lukas! So excited to see you reacting to Pentatonix. They are still giving me the "feels" and I've been watching them for years now. I really enjoyed watching you react to all the different elements of their arrangements. I subscribed to your channel, hit the like button and will be listening for more great reactions! Their cover of "Shallow" is great, the Lady Gaga/Bradly Cooper song. Just a side request....I would LOVE to see your reaction to Dimash Kudiabergen, He is a 26 year old - young man from Kazakhstan. Dimash has a 6 octive vocal range, sings in 12 languages, plays multiple instruments and has been classically trained since he was 5 years old. Dimash is often referred to as "The Best Singer In The World" You are in for a new and dynamic experience!! Go to the official Dimash channel on RU-vid. Select and listen first to S.O.S. which he sang on "The Singer" a Chinese competition show for accomplished singers. You'll never be the same! Sorry this was so long, but I'm really excited by your astute evaluation of these excellent artists. Cheers!!
Love watching you discovering Pentatonix, if you like A Capella try listening to Home Free and also if you like Mitch;s vocal clarity you will love Dimash, probably the most talented singer in the world. check out these Home Free - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a1TqpH6PZBo.html Dimash - ru-vid.com?search_query=dimash+sos&sp=eAE%253D
I'd love to put in a request for the song "Gold," (a cover of a Kiiara song). And I TOTALLY recommend you go back to the beginning, which would be their Sing-Off show performances. So much fun to watch how they grow week-to-week and how they master these arrangements in such a short period of time.
Hi Lukas. I love watching you react to Pentatonix. They are incredible. I'm a classically trained vocalist and so appreciate their amazing talent and musicianship. I have been a fan since the Sing Off competition where they were introduced to the world. I would recommend you listen to "Bohemian Rhapsody" next. It's so awesome - definitely one of their best. "Imagine" is also powerful and impressive, especially on the Kevin front. He really sings at a high level (literally) on that one. "Mary, Did You Know" is another favorite. Again, thanks for sharing your experiences with us. If you like Avi (he's one of my favorites) two of his best are "Change on the Rise" and "Hey Ya" with his group Avriel and the Sequoias. And at some point, you need to watch "Ring of Fire" with Home Free where Avi sings with them. Best of luck to you. I actually have a friend I performed in "Evita" with that was also on Blue Bloods btw. His name is Jesse Sharp.
If you are interested in the PTX story. I suggest watching the Superfruit videos. Scott and Mitch started doing a weekly VLOG in 2013. They did over 200 videos in a span of almost 5 years. Most of the videos are not singing. But they give a very good "behind the scene" look at PTX during their formative years. This particular song (Daft Punk) was inspired by Mitch's love of "Electronic" music. In fact you can see the artistic debate and differences over those 5 years that Scott and Mitch had. Mitch was always trying to "push" the envelope and Scott was trying to be artistic, but also practical in pleasing the large "middle of the road" fan base that PTX had attracted. (I can't count all the times Mitch rolled his eyes at the mention of the "Christmas" albums.) Thanks for all your PTX reactions. They rekindle the awe I felt when I first "discovered" them. Keep them coming.
Lollipops watching a new reactor discovering Pentatonix! BTW, thanks for wearing the headphones, they really improve the experience 😀 Welcome to our Pentaholic family 😍
I'm sure you'd also enjoy their original song, Love Again. It has the same "vibe" with the theatrical makeup. It has a very club beat. Here's the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F80FsZDTgn0.html&
They have a version of 'Silent Night', live in a church, it's beautiful. You should also check out O'G3ne (pronounced as o-gene)/ They're 3 sisters and their harmonies are stunning. Good place to start are their home-isolation video's. I'm sure you will like them...
Listen to Avi’s overtone singing and whistle notes! Oh, and take it from a jazz pianist-composer, you’ll want to listen to Can’t Help Falling In Love”! They do it in a slow four instead of 6/8-adding poignancy to the piece. At the end they sing an A9 chord stretching out the overtone power of the chord. The A9 is anchored by a 3rd ledger-line bass clef A! The resultant chord sounds like an organ!
They won their first Grammy for the arrangement of this song. They won their second Grammy for the arrangement of "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy." PTX and Dollie Parton won in the "performance' category their third Grammy for "Jolene."
