The sounds are all them...this was their first Grammy winner. Their is a video out their that is Daft Punk private performance. They performed it in a small room for a hand full of people without mics. It's very raw and filmed on a phone but you can definitely tell that they are doing it all. Only bad part is with mics the trio kind of out shadows Avi and Kevin but you can definitely know it's all talent. Oh, and this was a mash up of like 7 Daft Punk songs so know wonder you were confused!😊
You think Avi & Kevin are outshone by the trio with mics? I feel like the opposite is true, especially with headphones on, like this medley is crazy A&K action lol. 🤩🤘🔥💜
Love Again is an original they recorded about the same time with the same vibe. There is a backstage interview where they sing it live close up, very impressive
Daft Punk was an EDM group, mostly French House style. Supposedly French guys, but always wore large motorcycle helmets or something like that. Recently retired with a flamboyant (I said French, right?) explosion video. Something like 20 years of ground breaking EDM work. This is 7 of their songs in a cool DJ mix style medley.
Mitch would have been on every girl's wall on a poster (the irony..lol) if he had been around during the boy band era, his pop voice in this is phenomenal.
And just think - he was bullied in high school for his high voice. They say that doing well is the best revenge. If I were him I don't believe I could resist doing a bit of gloating.
Avi and Kevin work together so we’ll in this. They are truly the heartbeat of this medley! And Avi does some overtone in this too I believe (singing two notes at once…it’s supernatural sounding!) Eeek!!!! I get so excited to see your PTX reactions pop up! This is one of my all time favorites. It’s no wonder they won their first Grammy for it!
Back in the beginning when they were broke and won the Sing-Off, and then they all moved to L.A. and then the record company dropped them thinking acapella wasn’t a money maker (stupid move!), to save money Avi and Kevin shared an apartment. You can only imagine how their evenings were spent working out the percussion/base for their songs. They were on the same wavelength and they were both so in sync with each other they couldn’t help but be outstanding.
to be clear, they won a grammy for the arrangement - and because the award at the time was for "best INSTRUMENTAL arrangement", the Grammys actually changed the category to "best arrangement, instrumental or acapella".
It certainly isn't hard to understand why they won their first Grammy for this performance. Loved how excited you got about the performance and the arrangement.
I love how when he got to Harder, better, and the transition into Television. Every time he wanted to comment something else hit him and left him speechless. Finally he was just done :)
It’s definitely all them! This was very early on in their career. They had very little money for production, they filmed it in Kevin and Avi’s apartment 🤣
YESSSS. We all knew you were going to react like this. Props for calling out Avi and Mitch by name. I'm not good with names, either but this group has earned the memorizing I had to do in the beginning. They're so personable. Scott, Mitch, and Kirstin have known each other since before high school (or something like that) and it is evident that they are the epitome of Best Friends Forever. Once they brought Avi and Kevin on to fill out the group, it was literally like magic. One of their STRENGTHS is their differences. They have different voices, different backgrounds, different religions, different orientations, different opinions, but they bring all of these to the table to craft what you've been experiencing. It is obvious that this performance took an extraordinary amount of work on their part to make it what it is. It's actually a collection of various songs (a medley) by the group "Daft Punk", which you seem to have recognized in part. Near the end they're actually singing the lyrics from two different Daft Punk songs at the same time. The attention to detail that they put into their craft is absolutely mind-boggling and two huge reasons for that is because they love each other and they love music. They study it. They know EXACTLY what they are doing. Then, after that, they realized they had amassed a huge fan base and they love us too. Keep up the good work. Give some shout outs to Kevin for his insane beatboxing, Scott for his absolutely versatile voice, and Kirstin for her amazing belting that cuts through the wall of sound that everyone else creates. My latest suggestion: "Wizard of Ahhhs" on Todrick Hall's channel. He collaborated with them to make one of their most amazing music videos. It's quite an adventure, and Todrick is a Queen :)
And after the Reaction to "Wizard of Ahhhs" do the BTS of this video also; for yourself or as a Reaction. Is it more than worth to watch it IMHO. And.... Happy New Year from Germany
Yay! I love this one! Well, who am I kidding, I love them all! 😂 This one landed them their first Grammy. Great reaction, as usual! Edit: And asking someone to choose between Pentatonix and Home Free is like asking them to choose which of their children they'd like to keep. 😏
Fun Fact: PTX fans are called Pentaholics, Home Free fans are called Home Fries and the mix that like them both are called Pentafries! LOL Just saying!
I've listened to Home Free and I just can't get into them, something just annoys me. I'm pretty sure it's the accents or the fact there is no real diversity in the group.
It’s all them. 1st Grammy win. They filmed it in Kevin and Avi s kitchen Spent $400. Used talent and Insane imagination. It’s a medley and such a fun Mix. I mean they love a challenge. I love them then and I love them now. Thanks for great reaction
If you can afford it, do the VIP experience. You will get to meet them before the show and have a picture taken with them. Then they give you a private performance of one song. It's worth every penny. They truly are humble and a joy to be around. When I arrived at the venue, I could hear them practicing Hallelujah. Even that was amazing.
Welcome to our group!! We Pentaholics stick together. You need to check out " Say something" and "Imagine" for sure. And so many others. Can't wait to see the reactions.
I'm more of a Home Fry than a Pentaholic, but this is one of my favourites of theirs - it's so well done. At their level, it really isn't about who's better, it's all about personal taste in music and in style. And the awesome video made by FifGen films - they made videos for PTX, Home Free and Peter Hollens, among others. One of them, Jimmy Bates, is still filming and editing for both groups. the other two, Reilly and McKenzie Zamber are now making their own music and videos as the Hound and the Fox. They're a super talented, sweet couple, well worth checking out.
Can't believe this was so early in their careers, it's just too good! This was the first Grammy, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies the second. Everyone says it's a song without words done by a group without instruments.😊 Third Grammy Jolene with Dolly Parton. Predict the fourth will be The Prayer, hopefully.
This song really melts your mind. It shows off just how crazy awesome they are. Another great one to check out is their Evolution of Michael Jackson video.
When i first saw this video i had to watch it three times before i figured out that they were doing those 'glitch' effects with only their voices. The other thing that blew me away was Mitch and Scott singing a verse with a staccato style that sounded like an EDM mix. And to tie it all together, Avi and Kevin laid down what sounded like a five layer bass/perc track... just jaw-dropping talent. If ya heard it on the radio, you'd never know it was Acapella. 😁
I've watched several dozens of reacitons to this video since it's release in 2014 and I've NEVER seen anyone NOT dropping their jaw to the floor, smiling almost to the point of pain, unable to sit still, sitting there totally flabbergasted (that includes my own experience when I saw/heard this video the first time in 2014). It's impossible not to feel joy, tap your foot or your entire body etc.. And yes, since that video was released I pretty sure that a majority of the viewers got an increased heart rate and higher blood pressure due to Kirsties visuals and incredible voice; they've all got amazing voices and know how to use them, each with their own timbre and range. Her cute smirky smile during her solo section in this video has probably tugged at many viewers heart strings over the years (including mine). :)
Believe it or not, they recorded this in, I believe 2013 for $400 in a closet, Incredible. So sorry to miss Bohemian Rap. I would have loved to watch you see that for the first time, Great reaction.
I got a shout out 💖😁 Thank you! Sorry Bohemian Rhapsody got nuked. Daft Punk is a French group that did these songs, and I think covers or remixes were popular club songs. Their videos had alot of robots and sci fi stuff in them. Love Again is a Pentatonix original video with very similar effects. Perfume, a medley from an oriental group, is beautiful and fun too. When I want a random good Pentatonix one I get on their page and see if there is a song I like, and watch how they do it. Is always good. Thanks for a great reaction! Oh, Emma gave you a link that has them with no mics doing Daft Punk, private performance, it is great! 😁😁😎
I have listened to Home Free, and while I agree they are very talented, I have to say that even songs that move me, Home Free has never moved me to tears, like Pentatonix.
I found Home Free by binging Pentatonix songs & reactions and then discovered Voiceplay! I really enjoy these groups for their differences and their talent! No camp for me. Just lucky to be able to listen to all of them! Great reaction Larry!
Exactly! Both groups excel. Unfortunately for those that have closed their minds, their focus has only diminished the musical journey they could have experienced. I include Voice Play in my A Capella triumvirate. Each group fills a niche, not really competing with, but complimenting, each other.
Brain cramp? I think that's the only way to describe their version of Daft Punk. I love how you react to all their videos and I wish we could have seen your reaction to Bohemian Rhapsody. Your observations are spot on and I hope you get to enjoy their concert
If you haven't already seen it, there is a private live rendition of this. It is literally in a hallway or something next to a bathroom with no mikes. I'm sure you could find the link.
I'm a 72 year old woman and I just can't get enough of this group...I love, love, love them...God I would've to see them before my time is up...if I had a bucket list...this would be on the top...everything they touch is on top...amazing!!!!
Love both and they are very different. This medley is crazy!!! This Grammy winning video was made for a total of...400 dollars LOL! Got to see them just a few days ago...they are AMAZING!!!!!!! I'm 100% for a collab!!! Great reaction man!
Happy New Year! You should think about doing the Sing Off performances (aka: PTX Origins). While Mitch, Kirstie & Scott have known each other since childhood, Kevin and Avi joined the group days prior to auditioning for the show and *spoiler alert* they won Season 3. It’s fascinating to watch them evolve and improve every week and hearing the judges thoughts on live TV. I think you’d really enjoy the journey. Here’s a link to their performance on episode 1. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9STdbGrfCLA.html
That is actually them singing. I went to their concert in Toronto a few years ago. they did this song live...It was insane. I was so glad I went. I really enjoyed it. Honestly Avi's Bass rocked the whole concert hall.
This is a medley, a collection of seven (7) songs! It was arranged by Ben Bram, who has been with them from the jump. He was also a named recipient of the award.
Who cannot be „camp PTX“ after this?!?!? They are a class of their own. By the way, there is a live version of this on RU-vid by them performing this on a private birthday party of some kind… And by the way: its not „one song“ - it‘s a medley of various songs performed by Daft Punk.😀
Every time I watch/listen to this I’m astounded with so many aspects of this. Avi is amazing in this, as well as Kevin creating the framework to awesomeness. The makeup and effects are fun and vocals on point per usual.
Your response to music, no matter the genre or performers is awesome - no comparisons in regard to "these are better" etc is what I enjoy the most Heads up: any medleys performed by performers won't be copyrighted, simply because of the nature of medleys - have at it, you're in for a glorious ride if you delve into this area too lol
Loved your reaction! These people are AMAZING! The difference in music is the country flair by HF, and PTX has a more diverse style of music (and including the individual style of each.) They know 18th century to music of today. And they can mimic instruments as well as style and everything in between, plus they give a song an upgrade and their own twist. When PTX came on the scene, they taught the world what a cappella is. That was in season 3 of THE SING OFF. HF was on season 4. Home Free had good music but it improved dramatically after PTX won season 3. They added new vibes, techniques, and nuances. I like to think that PTX taught the world how to sing! And they have a video, SING. It was for their fans. They LOVE their fans! There is no comparison, they both have it locked in for success!
My daughter and I have seen them in person twice in Hershey. Unfortunately, they did not perform this song. But, they are as amazing in person as their videos!
Hi Larry! The skipping is all them. While Scott, Mitch, and Kirsten all went to high school together they then added Avi and Kevin when they competed on this a cappella show called The Sing Off. One week they did Video Killed The Radio Star and skipped and another week the did Love Lockdown where Avi and Kevin did that misty synth like sound. Avi can do this thing with his voice where her can sing 2 tones at once. That’s the zip like sound you’re hearing. I think it’s call Mongolian tones or something like that.
Just have to say that your joy, glee & honest enjoyment of the music is incredibly fun to watch & share. Plus I have to smile like a goof every time I see you grinning so happily-you have a contagious Happy Face!
I watch several reactors that react to Pentatonix and have issues with RU-vid blocking their reacts. A few have said that they have looked in to the issue. They have said that the main issue is the use of PXT images/video. So, they use different types of filters to distort the images. They say the audio is not the issue... it's just the videos. Hope this helps. I love all your reactions. Happy New Year!!
Idk if you realized that this was a medley of Daft Punk songs they mashed up together. It's not just one song. They used to have the word Medley on the video title, but it must have been removed a long time ago. If you loved this one, then you'll definitely love one of their original songs with the same EDM feel to it, called LOVE AGAIN. They released that around the same time as this one. The video concept was similar. They are like Steampunk aliens sounding cosmically amazing. Kevin does a bass drop that knocks me out every time. I just want to go hard on the dance floor. And Mitch was high pitch perfection. Just a beast on this song.
Happy new year! This is a medley of seven Daft Punk songs: Technologic, One More Time, Get Lucky, Digital Love, Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger, Television Rules The Nation and Around The World.
There is no valid reasoning for making it a competition between one group (PTX vs Home Free) over another. They are both at the top of their games and genre. Just be thankful for their existence at this time for our enjoyment!
It’s amazing what pentatonix can do, isn’t it? I mean, they recorded this whole music video in Avi’s closet, with a budget of $400, yet it won them a Grammy. I definitely recommend their version of ‘Can you feel the love tonight?’, which isn’t the most popular of their songs, actually, but for some reason it’s always really stuck out to me and I’d like to see what others think of it.
Seeing them live in concert solidified them as my favourite band! They are not only vocally gifted but the love they have for performance is evident! Pentatonix is a gift!
I absolutely love Pentatonix, having discovered them through reactors here on RU-vid - & while I love all the Songs I've seen so far of them with Matt , I don't think I've seen one yet where he gets as 'low' as Avi - not that I mean that in a bad way, & if I'm wrong, I'm sure more seasoned Pentaholics will point me in the right direction! 👍😊
👋😄Hardcore PENTAHOLIC here! If you want to see 2 more AMAZING A Capella groups check Citizen Queen (primarily Acapella) and Acapop Kids these 2 groups were cofounded by Scott Hoying (tall blonde guy of PENTATONIX) CQ is all female with a bass and beatboxer. Recommend No Tears Left To Cry Never Enough Lost In Japan Evolution Of Girl Groups 💥WATCH THESE VIDEOS TILL THE END💥 The other group is Acapop kids.. The group consists of about 30+ kids broken up into smaller groups they have bass and beatboxers. recommend: Bohemien Rhapsody/Somebody To Love Fix You Valerie Breathin Kelly Clarkson Medley
Your text asks "What can't Pentatonix do?" That's a rhetorical question, right? Love your reaction and your enjoyment of this creative masterpiece. Eye and ear candy indeed - always from PTX! Grammy #1 and how they do this is just amazing - the sounds, the DJ scratch and mix, the pace - the creative video. Now that you have seen the official recorded version, just for fun, please, please react to them doing this live, on the spot, as a private performance that looks like somebody's living room and filmed on a camera phone. Link here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tw4YCsHXKgI.html PTX is the REAL DEAL. Lots of recommendations for reactions in the comments below and some history. I already gave you one or two long lists of recommendations and I know you will get through them. There is also a great video on the history of the group - only about 10 minutes long - which would give a quick summary.
Hi from Italy! Loved so much your reaction sir. I sow my first reaction to this song in yours first reaction. Ahaha so much fun! If there were 10 thumbs to up, I would up all 10 ahahah.
I'm glad this has arrived but sad that your efforts for "Bohemian Rhapsody" are all blocked. Wishing you a healthy and happy year to come, thank you for making 2021 easier.
Unfortunately i never got to see them live while Avi was with them. They just never came close enough to be able to go, The ironic thing is, in 2019 i got to go see Avi in concert in Chicago then in july same year i got to see PTX in concert in Grand Rapids. They didn't do this song but the concert was awesome.
Avi has actually worked with Home Free. He had a guest appearance on their video for Ring of Fire. The Phaser effect Avi does in this song is one of my favorite elements of this medley.
We saw them in an smaller outdoor venue at our State Fair. This one was unreal live. As was Natural Disaster. Scott taught the audience part of the chorus to Natural Disaster and we all sang along. ❤️
I have thoroughly enjoyed watching you fall deeper into your love for PTX. They are amazing. I got to see them Christmas week this year, but of course they focused in Christmas songs, but they were AMAZING! :)
Now that you have watched Pentatonix “Daft Punk Medley, I eagerly await your reaction to Home Free’s amazing cover of Dire Straights “Brothers In Arms”. It’s 180 degrees different then PTX’s “Daft Punk”, but a true gem of Acapella music IMHO. Please do your fans Home Fries, and me the pleasure of seeing your reaction.
