@@lizzyfletcher3175 I love the “Official” vid, but for pure emotion the NBC Christmas Special can’t be beaten! It was a moment captured in time that can never be repeated! It was also the performance that left a lot of reactors scratching their heads muttering “Damn they ARE that good”!!!
To be fair though when they started out they were 19 years old and they’re now turning 30 so yeah they have changed. Of course anybody’s going to change from the time they are 19 to when they’re 30. I don’t think the core of who they are deep inside and their values have changed. They are from all accounts very good kind people. But all you have to do is look at Mitch‘s evolution of fashion to see how he’s grown and changed from a shy teenager to a much more confident young man.
I LOVE watching the reactions to Hallelujah First they get that questioning look when he starts out "He didn't start out that high, did he?" Then they get the doubtful look "nah, he's not going to take it up to..."??? BOOM!! Mitchslap EVERY time This song is a MasterClass in Vocals for SO many reasons.. Should be the gold standard for Acapella
Pentatonix rarely do anything that they cannot also do live. Many reactors with music backgrounds prefer to check out the official video first, then find a live video of the same song and compare the two. With PTX, there is very little difference between them...in fact some prefer the live version. I hope you do some more PTX. Subbe'd.
Not counting collaborations with other artists, the only song I can think of that they can't do (properly) live is "Imagine," and that's nothing to do with the vocals. The official video of "Imagine" works as well as it does because of the cards, and that first card that they pass around has to have been visually manipulated in the studio. E-ink isn't up to reproducing that yet. I keep thinking, "One of these years..." Some things have changed with Avi leaving and Matt coming in, of course. Matt can't do overtone singing, for instance. The bigger change, however, is that they've made new arrangements of the bass solos to take full advantage of Matt's unique talent, just as Avi's arrangements were specifically written for him. When I heard them in Denver on November 20, 2022 I would swear that on the second verse of "Hallelujah," Matt's lowest note was just as low as anything I ever heard from Avi, while his highest note was actually in the *tenor* range! And I would bet real money that Matt's range is still increasing. He's just awesome. (Okay, of course he is. He's a member of Pentatonix, duh. Even so, he exceeds my expectations, and what I expect from Pentatonix is magic.)
Their live performance of this song from their September 2022 concert at the Hollywood Bowl is simply spectacular. The power and maturity of their voices in this performance is stunning. There is a live stream version for the entire concert which has the best sound and camera work.
I'll always come down to the 2016 live performance with Avi as the Forever Go To 🔥💖 Matt brings a lot to PTX, but I cannot what he does with this song : / #what?
If you want to see how they have grown, The Prayer is a great example of perfection. Pop Spring 2016 is a live performance of 4 songs 3 of which are originals. Will watch for more PTX reactions.
Ever since I first heard their -cover- upgrade of "The Prayer" I've said that it rated a Grammy, and now the entire album it's on ( _Evergreen_ ) has been nominated. Looking forward to the award ceremony on February 5, 2023. 🤞
@@pamelafoster2302 I want them to win this one so badly. I keep thinking about Matt. He is utterly spectacular, and he's the only member of PTX who doesn't have a Grammy, which must be very difficult. This would take care of that. 🤞
I highly recommend if you have not seen it to view their cover of “imagine“ by John Lennon. It is inspirational. Not only are their voice is phenomenal, but the message that comes across during the video is beautiful!
@@janetlawson4482 I prefer Scott's choices in the first verse in the Christmas special. It is more of the haunted tone of Cohen's original in the notes he chose.
I recommend that at some point you view the video of the “recording of the Evergreen album“ which was a behind the scene look at the second week of the two week process of recording their Christmas album from 2021. It gives you a better understanding of how they develop their sound.
Ok, I admit I love PTX, and like reactors. But when the reactor is a musician and brings their knowledge to us, I subscribe ! I look forward to your insights on a variety of groups!
You mentioned Mitch (in the hat), and the small amount of reverb on his voice. Once you have listened to several of their live (cconcert or mic-less songs), you will realize most if not all that reverb is him doing it to his own voice. Yes he is that talented. I'm not saying this to argue with what you said, because I do agree with the idea you presented, that's how I like to hear music myself. But I am saying it, because the things he can do to his voice is beyond belief, until you hear it enough that you have no choice but believe it. Good reaction, I enjoyed your perspective.
Do you have a link where to show this? I would be interested in seeing this. I don't think what you're saying is possible, but I hope you can prove me wrong. Thanks again for your comment.
@@ScottauchterlonieMusic I do not mind you not believing, it does sound impossible. Here are a few I could think of off the top of my head, I know you haven't reacted to these, so just do this however you want. Some will be more evident than others. Especially on top of the bravado and such. Also I'm not musically trained, so I maybe confusing some effects, I admit that. I also can not remember which song or reactor but I have heard mention of his reverb, by trained people, I'll see what I can come up with. The live version of this song: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-haFHrfmfHbc.html The Prayer: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i5xMpjBLLuc.html Daft Punk: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a8PZ7_KMGM4.html Gold (Kiiarra) live: I figure you can't argue with a live concert (not that you would, just sayin), but I'll leave the official video also it's easier to separate his voice ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a8PZ7_KMGM4.html studio: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mW0T0F7VquA.html This is Mitch's solo side project ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0mSMqkBArxk.html I'll keep looking for that particular one. I have no problem with someone telling my I don't know what I'm talking about. Just be gentile if you do.
There is a live version of Hallelujah that is amazing. The crowd is totally into the performance. Try the one with 50m+ views from a Pentatonix Christmas Special.
Filmed in the Mojave Desert just outside of Barstow, California. Kirstin had an injured leg or foot, which is why she's just standing there while the others walk up to her, and once they reach her they stop (good timing on that, by the way). Note that when Avi sings "Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you" the camera briefly cuts to Kirstin. As always, their editing is top-notch. Yes, those low notes just seem to resonate through your whole body, don't they? Gorgeous.
Mitch (the counter tenor) sounds as good as this live too. PTX will not record anything that they can't reproduce live. Listen to any of their live versions of this.
Their version of Havana is pretty cool. Also, seeing as you said you like the low notes, Angelina does a cover of How Great Though Art shows her lower range.
Subbed for more PTX! Absolutely LOVE them! This journey of Pentatonix is exhilarating to say the least! The integrity of their craft is phenomenal. The talent and arrangements are unsurpassed. Thanks for reacting!
Great reaction! I saw them live in November and honestly I was afraid to because I knew there was no way they could sound as good live. Boy was I wrong. I was absolutely blown away! They truly are amazing. Ever listened to BTS? They are pretty good, too. 🙂Maybe check out "Film Out" live version for a little variety. Be sure to turn captions on. Thanks for the reaction! I'll be back!
New subscriber, here for all the PTX you care to feature. Pentatonix was a pandemic discovery for me, and I have not become that enchanted with a new sound for decades. As a musician, you may be interested in reacting to Recording Evergreen, a short video that documents a recent album that has since been nominated for a Grammy. Can You Feel the Love Tonight from The Lion King is another of their big, luscious songs, Imagine will touch your heart and Come Along will make you smile and bop. Since you’re young, you may not have seen what I consider one of the best live performances ever recorded - Janis Joplin at the Monterrey Pop Festival. It was that performance that launched her career into the spotlight. (Sorry there are no links here, the videos are easily found by searching.) I enjoyed your reaction and insights very much, well done. Peace from Ohio …
If you want to hear music perfection done in one take, check out “Tina S”, a 16 year old girl playing “Ludwig van Beethoven” “Moonlight sonata” on an electric gu itar. One take. No cuts. No mistakes. 16 years old.
Avi Kaplan (the bass with the beard) left the group in 2017 because of many factors but one of them was because he needed to go further as a singer songwriter. His solo work is very different from PTX. Try his 'Change on the Rise' as a start point. He is one who absolutely has to feel what he is singing - his songs come from his heart. I think you would like his solo work. As he counts as a less well known artist, here's a link to Change on the Rise ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-382BTxLNrow.html
If you enjoy acapella and low voices you should check out Voiceplay, their bass singer Geoff will knock your songs off. Loved your reaction to this one, PTX always gets me in the feels with this one.
Their live 2017 of Hallelujah is stunning. You hear how good they are. try Joyful, Joyful live from this past year. Getting to go to their concert this past year, Live they are Stunning.
I would proffer something to you. Check out the Pentatonix, Home Free, and Voiceplay rabbit holes. It's been said by many that if all three groups were singing groups in high school, Home Free would be the kids singing by their truck in the parking lot, Pentatonix would be the kids singing in the choir, and Voiceplay would be the kids singing in theater> Obviously, many peoples' impressions vary but for me, I'd suggest for you to check out: Pentatonix: Over The River, Sound of Silence, Jolene (done with Dolly Parton herself), The Prayer Home Free: End of the Road, Helplessly Hoping, When A Man Loves A Woman, Big Butts Remix Voiceplay: Hoist The Colours, The Dragonborn Comes Skyrim, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Queen in 5 Minutes All three groups are PHENOMENAL in what they do. There are plenty of covers of other songs/groups by them. It's hard for me to pick, as I've watched many videos from each group, but my favorites are Pentatonix: The Prayer, Home Free: End of the Road, and Voiceplay: The Dragonborn Comes Skyrim. Edit: In fact, I'm going to suggest what, for me, is the most powerful of all of the songs above. I love all three groups equally. But, Pentatonix's version of "The Prayer" is perfection in vocal form. Mitch has never sung anything badly. But, having followed the group almost since their Sing Off days, his growth (as well as that of the others) is nothing short of astounding. If you watch ANY of the videos above, please watch that one first. Subbed
I just subbed. I look forward to ANY Pentatonix (aka PTX) videos you would like to react to. They have over 200 on their channel. Glad you like them and have heard them before.
I love your reaction to this. If you like acapella you should definitely check out Voiceplay! They are absolutely amazing and Geoff, their bass singer, is insane.
Subbing for more PTX reactions. Pentatonix, Home Free and Voice Play are (IMO) the top 3 Acapella groups out there. They are the elite of the elite. I don't think you'd be disappointed by checking any of their stuff out. I really enjoyed your reaction. Looking forward to more.
For a great live experience check out Disturbed “The sound of silence” Live on the Conan O’Brien show (I prefer it over studio version) and Morissette Amon “Rise Up” live on the Wish Bus. A 3rd would be Marcelito Pomoy “The prayer” also on the Wish bus.
Welcome to the PTX rabbit hole! Some of their best covers: Imagine, bohemian rhapsody, Can you Feel the Love Tonight, The Prayer, Can't stop Falling In Love, Say Something, Shallow...and the list goes on! Some fantastic originals: Run To You, Thank You, Love Me When I Don't
You are a funny guy. Your face seems different from your comments. You seem to be blown away while listening, yet your comments are subdued. Love the feedback.
Please react to voiceplay too It s an another a capella group Please react to voiceplay covered Metallica Nothings else matters (release 3 days ago) This cover is 🤯🤯🤯🤯 Please 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Pentatonix live versions are pretty much the same as the official videos... they only need their raw talent. If you are up for it there is so much more of their music you should check out. Their covers of Radiactive with (Lindsey Stirling) by Imagine Dragons, Gold by Kiara, The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel, Bohemian Rhaposody by Queen, Papaoutai by Strome... Too many to post. Also check out their video Sing and Come Along. And that's not even a quarter of it.
The crazy part of PENTATONIX is how constant they are as musicians. Each is innately musical. It is part of who each of them is. What astounds me is that the have a 6th member, the arranger, who is every bit as talented. The scary part is how they all sing to the chords, not the notes. Put them on an oscilloscope and i would bet almost no notes are spot in. They tune to make the chords live. The best example is the final two chords in Bohemian Rhapsody. Mitch is holding the lead note as the chord resolves. A splut second after Avi lands in his note Mitch retines tge chord by going up a very previse 64th of a tone. You don't hear the note chsnge but you feel the dynamic of the chord come through.
Love your reaction 👍 You should check their live version on PTX Christmas Spécial. I would love to see you react on this one. You could enjoy their amazing talent and, you'll hear Avi's bass live ... You won't regret I promise 😍 Thanks 😘
They have two professionally filmed live versions of this song, one with Avi (their bass from 2011-2017) and one with Matt (their actual bass since 2017) you can check out those to compare them to the music video
That's a matter of opinion. To me they've gotten better and better over the years. For me Matt's voice is a better fit vocally with their more pop sound the trio sings with. Matt's personality is definitely a better fit to their silly nature.
I truly love PTX. I also love the two other big a capella groups, home free and Voiceplay. Voiceplay is my favorite tho… please check into both of those groups as well…
I’ve seen people react to the live performance back to back with the official video. With PTX they are very similar but not exactly the same. Thanks for the reaction.
You should listen to the Hallalujah song by Kurt Nilsen, Espen Lind, Alejandro Fuentes and Askil Holm. To me, it is more sincere and heartfelt. It's also a live performance.
I agree that while produced music has its place, there is something organic and more intimate about the sound from a live performance. That said, please watch (even if only for your own enjoyment) Pentatonix performing Hallelujah live. It isn't identical to the produced video, but the tonal quality and harmony is right there. Thanks so much for your reaction!
