Pentatonix sort of ruined most other christmas music for me, lol. Everything they do is magic. I can count on one hand the numbers they do where I don't think it is the best version of that number I have ever heard 😉

I think you will be saying, "absolute best version of that song" a LOT as you get into the Christmas journey. What they have, and use, more than most other, is dynamics. They blast you with a wall of harmony, then drop you off the cliff and pull back to Kevin's angelic voice. Angels We Have Heard On High O Come All Ye Faithful And of course, The Prayer, just released. Really, you can't go wrong.

I couldn’t agree more about scott and avi’s voices together being a treat. I think that pairing is a bit more prominent in their christmas music because many of the songs are more traditional choral arrangements etc. i really like their carol of the bells and drummer boy. Both feel like scott and avi pair up more in those two songs. Because one of them is usually taking the bass line, i think the pairing is a bit more rare than other pairings. And it’s gorgeous.
Yes!!! This IS the best rendition of "Mary, Did You Know" that I have EVER heard! It has been a favorite Christmas song of mine for a number of years and I have heard many fine renditions, but Pentatonix' version just touches my soul. So glad you FINALLY got around to it! ( Seriously, Pentatonix has SO MANY great songs to react to, I understand it's going to take some time to get to all of them. I truly enjoy your reaction videos and I look forward to seeing more!

I agree that the pairing of Scott’s voice with Avi’s is absolutely sublime. I think at Christmas is when I start missing Avi being in Pentatonix. Matt is very good, but Avi will always hold a special place in my heart. You are right, this is the BEST version I’ve ever heard of this song. I’ve found with many of the covers they do that when I listen to the original versions, they pale in comparison. I love being a Pentaholic!
It is my favorite version of this song, without question! If I were going to make some Christmas Pentatonix suggestions, White Winter Hymnal Oh Come All Ye Faithful The First Noel and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen... You will love those!
This was the first version I had ever heard but I later learned that Mark Lowry (who wrote the lyrics) did a version with Voctave. I recommend (if you so choose) you listen to that version as well. Both are utterly amazing in their own rights.

One of my Christmas favorites of theirs is Little Drummer Boy. I believe on PTX's official channel they have a playlist of all their Christmas songs, you're probably best off just making your way through it tbh! 😆
I listened to their 77 song “Ultimate Christmas Playlist” on their RU-vid channel (in August!) and was blown away, giddy, delighted, happy, moved; basically every emotion there is 🎄🎄🎄
Travis not only does their passion and emotional musicality moves our soul, there are visuals they put in as well; Some of those moments when the lighting at an opening of the cave is shone inward, which happens to be when Kirstin is in the center of the shot, to make it appear the light surrounds her like a halo. They are so brilliant! (Pun sort of intended) 😊

The author of this song, Mark Lowry, actually did this song with Voctave a while back. You might want to check that out.. very good of course. I still like PTX version better but the actual writer with Voctave…gotta see it..
When Kevin pops in, his voice feels like innocence. He's beyond talented in every aspect of life it seems and he's humble and genuine and stands up for his beliefs. I love their videos that are very simple and use nature as their background. Those seem to be the one's that punch me in the gut with so many feelings!
Love that you're finally getting to hear this! The only other version of this song that comes close to being as good as this is Voctave's version with the man who actually wrote this song, Mark Lowry, taking the lead. I think it's definitely worth a listen.

In my opinion, PTX's "12 Days of Christmas" is their most shocking cover out of their last year's Christmas Album, but I doubt it would be part of this year's Christmas Tour, since it is very difficult to perform live... but who knows...
The only other version of this song that can compete with it is the one by Voctave featuring Mark Lowry(original lyric writer and singer of the song). But that is a much bigger group(11-12 members) that can fill out more sound. PTX for its size absolutely crush this song and there is no other 5 member a cappela group who comes close.
I had to laugh a bit at your comment about listening to Pentatonix Christmas music year round. Yes, a lot of Pentaholics have come to realize that any day can be a Pentatonix day, regardless of the type of song they're singing. Their vocals, harmonies and arrangements are so entertaining that folks are appreciating their renditions of Christmas songs throughout the year.

Great reaction, as always! Their version of this song was the first I ever heard, and I have since heard others do it. You sometimes ask us to compare, but it's hard. If my kid sang this in an elementary school concert, I'd probably think it was the best thing I ever heard. If the singers have passion and do a good job, then I will probably enjoy it. I'm looking forward to your reactions to: The First Noel, White WInter Hymnal, Silent Night, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, O Come All Ye Faithful and The Twelve Days of Christmas. All are very different and wonderful.
I had several "favourite" Pentatonix songs until yesterday - then they released the official version of "The Prayer". OMG this has to be the best they can ever be! I can't stop watching it and it brings tears to my eyes every time. Love your halloween shirt!

100% agree! This is by far the best version of this song I’ve ever heard. Their humming at the beginning is by itself one of the most hauntingly beautiful sounds I’ve ever heard & the chills bumps continue to build from there.
Fun Fact: This was filmed in the original Bat Cave from the 1960's Batman series. When Mitch sings The GREAT I AM, I choke and tears start EVERY! DAMN! TIME!

As for other Christmas music, one of my favorites is Oh Come All Ye Faithful; they do it like you've never heard before, and it's guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Like everyone else, I think this rendition is in a class by itself. What I am about to say is not to challenge that, but to respond to you requ6 and offer a suggestion of a version you may not be aware. That is Voctave's version with with Matt Lowry, the song's composer. Both are amazing!

This was the one. I heard this and Little Drummer Boy on the radio and loved them. On repeated listenings, I began to realize the background was a person not a musical instrument. I started looking at the radio station to find out who the band was and tumbled down the rabbit hole and I’m still there.
You are in for a real treat when you go see them live! Their Christmas tour is absolutely AMAZING! They will do this one for sure. I saw their Christmas tour in Connecticut the year before the COVID pandemic started and it was, by far, the best concert I’ve ever been to! There are not enough wonderful adjectives to describe how they make you FEEL when they sing. This one and Hallelujah are the most beautiful songs to hear live. The first time I heard this of this group, I was in church during Christmas week, when I tell you, this song bought tears to my eyes, not only did I fell in love with this group, Mitch my Mitch did it for me (😀) he gets me all the time, talk about being slapped by Mitch,😀 I just love this group, once again grandma approved, I cannot wait to hear your reactions, when you see them perform live. This was the first song by them that I ever heard and have been hooked ever since. Kevin has such an innocent and pure-sounding voice. PTX doesn't do covers...they do upgrades!

I have nEver heard a better interpretation of this song!!! It reminds me that a young girl who was a Virgin gave birth to a baby that was the creator of all that is, and would bring love to all of us. I am a big fan of yours, thanks for bringing me along on your discovery and love of PTX.
