YAYYYY. Finally! How incredible is this?! My absolute favorite. The way they mix Dua Lipa's and Aaliyah's songs together is masterful. Matt & Kevin murder Timbaland's beats. Scott's R&B lead vocal, the harmonies, the bell tones...everything is just perfect. This was filmed in NYC when Kirstin was in Kinky Boots on Broadway. Thank you for reacting to this one! ❤️
I believe this was filmed in New York City because Kirstie was appearing on Broadway in the musical, "Kinky Boots." I have no idea how she managed to record anything at that time, since she was on stage for eight shows a week, but it is a tribute to her grit and professionalism. Most of the group's long term cadre of fans believe that Kirstie came through the experience with a great deal more confidence in her own abilities and talents, and we have certainly seen her emerging into a stronger, more prominent position within the group of late. For proof of this you simply must review their recent performance of Seasons of Love for PBS' "A Capital Fourth" program. It's a live performance, and simply marvelous!
This was shot in New York City. Phoenix doesn't have buildings like THOSE!! You went to ASU and I used to work for a minor league baseball team in Sun City, so we BOTH should know that! This was one of the first videos to feature Matt, and this was an early chance to show off what he could do right out of the box. Their producer is Ben Bram and their audio engineer is Ed Boyer. They make a hell of a good team!
This wasn't just a New Rules cover. It was a combination of New Rules and Are You That Somebody by Aaliyah. Matt's opening bass line is the bass line for Are You That Somebody. They also use lines from that song in the chorus and the bridge. Pentatonix moves in and out of the two songs so seamlessly, that it's hard to tell where one ends and the other begins.
This is my favorite PTX song that Mitch doesn't have some major roll in. Of course, I'm old enough to have strong memories of Are You That Somebody in the top 40 on the radio. This is, to me, the definitive song to send people to in order to appreciate Matt. I end up watching him the whole time, even when he's out of focus in the background.
Same! I’ve noticed that 90% of me listening to PTX is either waiting for Mitch‘s part or being excited over Mitch’s part 😅 This song is by far my most played song without a distinct „Mitch section“ - although „A little Space“ briefly tried to creep up there right after the album came out.
Thank you for reacting to this great Pentatonix video. This is a mashup of 2 songs: "New Rules" by Dua Lipa and "Are You That Somebody" by Aaliyah. The opening with Matt and Kevin was a recreation of the iconic music/beats of "Are You That Somebody?". Please react to Pentatonix "Havana" and "Mad World".
Love the opening "conversation" between Matt on bass and Kevin on vocal percussion, and then the Trio somehow creates a sound that's both intimate and musically sophisticated. Other recent-ish things you might enjoy: Havana, Shallow, Waving Through a Window, Dreams, Blinding Lights.
Great reaction and "dissection." You may also find "Never Gonna Cry Again" truly astounding. Mitch wrote it and sings about his Internet experience. Matt's Bass is beyond amazing! PTX really shines on this heart-felt song from the recent CD with all originals, The Lucky Ones.
I think Kirsten was living there when she was doing her Broadway show in New york and they I think came to visit her and also filmed that video. I could be wrong though
So glad you did this one, it's one of my favourites. Matts bass and the harmonies from Kirstie and Mitch get me every time.. Please do "Mad World" and "Imagine" 😀
Hi Jeffrey, you got me. After watching some of your Pentatonix Reactions, I subscribed to your channel yesterday. As a Pentatonix fan, I've been enjoying watching all the various PTX reaction vlogs on RU-vid. It's fun for a while, but with a lot of voggers, it get old, with the same old "Mitch slapped" reaction or "It gives me goosebumps", etc. It is all the same. However there are a few, like you, that actually dissect, analyze and explain the song (I wont name the others). From you, I get a better understanding the musicality behind the video, what the group is doing, how they are doing it, musical terms and what makes PTX videos so darn addictive. Bravo! Come on... 7.95K, I mean 7.95K +1, subscribers??!! You should have a lot more. Any plans to review PTX "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy?"
Hi John, thank you so much for your touching comment. It really makes my day to read comments from supporters such as yourself. I'm happy you're getting something new with my videos!
They used the arrangement and hook from the Timbaland produced "Are You That Somebody" by Aaliyah (RIP) and layered "New Rules" on top of that. It seems you may be too young to remember that hook from AYTS, but it's genius!!
Another well done reaction from you to a great PTX performance. Love how you have the camera close to your face. It makes it seem like you are talking to the viewer directly.
Please react to their cover of Havana, Also PTXs cover of Kiera’s Gold is so good, their coordination and timing and Mitchs insane vocals will blow you away Also. PTX s. Cosmos Sheldrakes Come Along Is an amazingly colorful bop and as a singer I think you would appreciate all of the above Ps. You need to react to their other two Grammy wins. Both of which are sublime. Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. And Jolene, with Dolly Parton and PTX
@@JeffreyHackReacts but before you watch PTX Gold, find the behind-the-scenes or studio version from Kiiara to see how she had to sing it, then watch Mitch sing it.
@/pentatonix @/athome @/blindinglights.....I am not sure why these 2 videos are over looked in peoples reactions. "Blinding Lights" by the Weekend and @/pentatonix @/athome @/whenthepartysover..."When the Parties Over " by Billie Eilish. These were both recorded during Covid lockdown from their respective homes and they are absolutely phenomenal.
