This song still gets me emotional, even after all these years. To paraphrase one reactor, "I see the cello, but I hear Avi". I'll always feel that way about this song.
The fact that you caught the sadness when Scott sang "I just came to say goodbye" right into the camera was everything. It hits different when you know about Avi doesn't it? Great reaction as always T!
So beautiful, such blended harmonies, and the cello clearly serving the role of bass, helping to fill the "feel" of the piece out. Each member clearly feeling the emotion of the song, too. Wow!
Talking about Kevin, have you checked out his channel yet? You should listen to him doing ”Down”! He will make you soooo amazed over how talented he really is!
Kevin does even 3 various rythms in some other videos (beatboxing, body percussion and foot stomping). How he’s able to perfectly keep 3 completely different beats, I can’t comprehend. But yeah, he’s a musical genius.
We all come to see you react and hear all your thoughts. Ramble away, we are here for it. I'm fairly sure Kevin is certifiably a genius (Like genuine Mensa level stuff) as much as I love Matt, there is always the fact that Avi joined up with 5 strangers and put his entire life on hold for a crazy gamble no one knew if it would pay off or not, and it was with him they went multi platinum dozens of times over and won 3 Grammy awards. I think this song really portrays the "End of an Era" feel pentatonix went through when he split off (understandably) under the weight of their work schedule. I love Matt, his voice, his enthusiasm, his energy: but Avi helped build the group to who they are and no one could ever really deny that.
@@lindajanca8069 Idk about heart and Soul but it's undeniable the Ptx we know would not have made it as far as they did without him. The trio would have found another way and Kevin would have landed on his feet, but the group as they are needed Avi in the beginning. I think also he needed them.
@@Sate12 I agree with your assessment that Avi needed them as much as they did him. If you haven't yet, see the end of the Dog Days Are Over episode of The Sing Off.
@@LindaVernon He calls them family and wanted to stay and sing. I truly believe he did want to stay with them (especially Kevin) but life got in the way
Isn't that gorgeous?? Thank you for doing this.. their facial expressions nearly break my heart, I don't even know the original song, but I know that this is a masterpiece!
The harmonies are amazing on this one. Not that they’re ever bad, lol.I think both sides of Kevin’s brain must work independently. Either that or he’s an alien.
Kevin invented celloboxing. He used it for Yo-Yo Ma's cello competition. Kevin came in 2nd. Yes, Kevin is a freak of nature, according to Shawn Stockman. All pentaholics acknowledge this. Get used to it. Now, react to Making Christmas from PTX. The new Christmas album is coming out soon. Time to start reacting to Christmas music, even though pentaholics listen to PTX Christmas music all year round. On repeat. Plus, when you react to the Mr Grinch song, Mitch has 2 moments in the song/video, and most reactors pause at these times and miss them.
I think I read somewhere that Kevin tuned his cello(Beyonce) to Avi's bass. Kevin also plays his cello on " Fields and Piers" another great song from Avi.🌼🌲
1- this one always makes me feel all the things. 🥺 2-One of the (many) reasons I love your PTX reactions is because you read the comments on recommendations and have a general idea of what’s happening and what you’re getting into. The fact that you knew why there’s no Avi/Matt in this video AND you knew Kevin was just briefly off stage in AHA! live is *chefs kiss* 🤣🤣
Their faces 😭. Mitch looks so good but uh, you can feel the melancholia hard. Kevin is so talented and the cello is my absolute favorite instrument. It's so mournful and so appropriate for this song.
This is an emotional song anyway, but their version really hits. A farewell to Avi with the cello acting as temporary replacement. Kevin is a lovely freak of nature. So talented. And to watch the three childhood friends do such an incredible job with the harmonies... wow. Just wow.
They are so amazing. Glad that you liked it. After you watch "New Rules x Are You That Somebody?" by Pentatonix and "Down" by Kevin you will be asking yourself why you waited so long. Great reaction, as always. Thanks.
I sobbed the first 10 times watching this during that cello solo. It sounds like Avi, can almost hear him through it, and just so sad to say good bye to him.
What a perfect piece to perform after Avi's departure! Interesting to note that Kevin used a non-conventional tuning of the cello. I believe it's an octave lower.
This one always leaves my brain a bit scrambled, too. 🤪. It was a great idea to use the cello to help with that transition. I still miss Avi, but do love Matt who has such a joyous demeanor about him. Thanks for reacting to this.
The look Scott gives the camera when he sings that last, "You don't see me..." always makes me tear up, still!! I just imagine them saying goodbye to someone they love so much and had been through so much with and not knowing what was going to happen next, he looks like a lost puppy!! It's a gorgeous song too, I hope it was what gave them the courage to soldier on cuz they killed that song dead!! And I'm sure fans let them know at the time. I, unfortunately, couldn't, but thankfully the Pentaholic army is huge lol. I loved your reaction, your story about where you live sounds similar to a part of my story, but my dad sold that house so now I live in an apartment with my wonderful partner. Fantastic reaction as always, see you on the next one, hugs!!
Hi Travis. I thought with the Halloween holiday coming up, you might appreciate listening to Pentatonix singing “Making Christmas” (from The Nightmare Before Christmas). Great video, singing, costumes and makeup. Keep up the great reaction videos. Love you being real and being yourself. Enjoy! 🦹 🧛🏻 🧟♂️ 🧙🏿♂️🧛🏼♂️
Thanks for reacting to this song. It made me so sad when it first came out and Avi was gone. Now I hear it and realize how stunning this cover is. Kudos to Kevin for beatboxing and picking up Avi's part on the cello. Please react to Kevin's solo stuff on his own 'KO' site starting with his cover of "Down" (It is mind blowing!). I also love Kevin's cover of "Sign Of The Times" on his channel (better than the original). You will really enjoy hearing some of Kevin's solo stuff when you go to their concert.
"I can't process thoughts and sit down at the same time " about killed me!!!!!! I love this video and song. Kevin is amazing. I can not figure out how he can do both at the same time. Just crazy. They all sound and look so good. Kirstie looks GORGEOUS!!!! I love her hair. So pretty!!! GREAT reaction! One of my favorite reaction from you!
I'm glad you enjoyed this, but it still breaks me up, every time. For those of us who watched every video and every interview and podcast and went to their concerts in the 6 years that Avi was with them, this was hard to watch. It was a sweet song for a special moment in time. There were two songs that they did between when Avi left and Matt came onboard, this and Away in a Manger (wonderful, uplifting version of the song). Please react to PTX Making Christmas before Halloween, if you can.
Hi Travis, I'm in the UK and a very early riser - for the last few mornings I've been blessed with an upload from you to start my day (with a cup of tea, naturally). Thank you for starting my day with a smile. Awesome reaction, not many reactors do this one and you smashed it, as always :)
I read that Kevin Purposely lowered the strings on his Cello to mimick Avi's Voice, that was his way of saying I miss you Bother, but I'm know you are healing.😔
Thank you so much. This one always makes me tear up. I can’t wait for you to listen to remaining sing offs I think they will blow you completely away. Again!!!!
You nailed it-Pentatonix every time! Every time they sing they take us places we hadn’t been to before. And you are right-Kevin is a force of nature. Someone pointed out in another reaction how odd that he is the one that hadn’t planned on music as a career and he blows us away every video. PS You are not a blubbering idiot. I enjoy your rambles.
I needed this tonight Travis. Your enthusiasm and love for PTX is so contagious and your reactions make me so happy and smiley. Thank you for entertaining us on your journey. Love your reactions sooooo much💕
They do look and sound fantastic…but they also look incredibly sad😢 Kudos to them for continuing on “on their own”! But, not for too long…I’ll always miss Avi, but Matt has become not a replacement but a full fledged member of PTX!!!
Oh Travis, don't forget to react to PTX singing Thank You. It spotlights Scott, but the rest of the group are exceptional as well. It's a beautiful moving song. I'm sure you will enjoy.
Yay I LOVE this one, so excited you reacted to it!! I’m so glad you went back to Scott’s big part towards the end, it’s my absolute favorite!! Loved it as always! 💙
This is so beautiful 💗 pentatonix never fail to impress do they 🙂 love this song 🎵 ❤ Please watch Kevin s solo 'Down ' its amazing 👏 Love your reaction Travis ♥
Ptx is always amazing, as you've said. Kevin is an alien, we all know it, even though he's never confirmed it ( he's shy, and I can't blame him ). I'm super happy you picked up on them using Beyonce to cover Avi's part in the song, not a lot of people picked up on that. When I first heard this one, shortly after they released it, it teared me up pretty good. " They had to use a musical instrument with such depth and breadth of voice to cover for Avi. " Was all I could think at the time. On a side note, Travis, do you have any plans to attend the Grand Rapids ComiCon coming up in November? I wondered because, if so, I may see you there. In and amongst the 100K other people, of course. Lol. In any event, fun reaction. Thank you for taking the time to do this one, one of my favorites.
PTX really do make a person think and feel all sorts of things in the listener's own memories. Yes, I also hear Avi in the cello. He and Kevin were especially good friends, thrown together as "the new additions" that were meant to make or break the newborn Pentatonix in the competition, and they roomed together for a number of years. (But you're *our* bozo, Travis! )
I Love Kevin and that trio of Mitch Kirstin, & Scott are such a stellar mix. Love the reaction Travis; You had me laughing so hard talking on and rambling about the house..lol. Have you reacted to their "Issues" yet? It's such a beautiful lead by Kirstie.
Every time I see this video of theirs, I always think it's so weird to see them without a bass. Of course, they still sound amazing (and the cello helps to fill the void)! And, they did find a new bass sometime after this
Please check out the songs Quarter Past Four and Fields and Piers from Avriel(Avi Kaplan) and the Sequoias. They were his first two songs after he left Pentatonix and you may hear and see a connection to PTX. Also suggest listening to Avi's goodbye message with PTX. It will give more context as to why he left. Also give the song Standing By by PTX and the acoustic version by Avi. It was a song he wrote for his friends and family.
Kevin was on RU-vid playing his cello and beat boxing when Scott, Kristie, and Mitch saw him and reached out to him to join them and Avi to participate on The Sing Off
The cello solo at the end…these are the lyrics they didn’t sing “So far away, but still so near The lights come on, the music dies But you don't see me standing here” If that isn’t a heartfelt goodbye to Avi and that era of their careers…I don’t know what it would be. This makes me cry every time.
You're hat! Michigan! Can I make the assumption that you reside in Michigan like me? Love the Michigan touches! Anyhoo, this was such a vibe, but very somber as well. They did a beautiful job! Thank you for appreciating them! You're the best!
I gave you a thumbs up because I love all your reactions, but I didn't watch the actual video. I have never been able to watch it. The minute the cello takes over Avi's baseline and knowing the situation, the waterworks begin. I know it's the past and everyone moved on, but something about this video just makes my heart break. It is the only PTX video I have been unable to watch. Thanks for all your great reactions.😎
I would love to see your reaction to Why Don't We ❤ they released their new song Love Back and it's awesome ❤ but their live performances are worth seeing as well.
Hi Travis ~ so so sorry I haven’t commented till now ~ going through some stuff at the moment ~ I love this version !!!!!! ~ Sending loads of love and hugs ~ Xxx Xxx
Two things I just noticed. The trio is on a loveseat. Just enough room for them. They don't need the room for Avi anymore and Kevin needs the room for his cello so he is sitting separately. Second I just noticed Michigan on your hat. I was raised there.
I was so emotional the first time I watched this! And when the cello was played by itself?! Oh, man, that hit hard...So glad you reacted to this! I really enjoy your PTX reactions. And you may have mentioned this in other videos that I haven't seen, but do you live in Michigan? I have seen you represent a few times with your clothing so I assumed you had some attachment. I am originally from Texas but have lived in Michigan for the last 10 years and love it.
