I think one of the things that make us love Pentatonix is that we know just how hard they work to maintain the consistently high quality of their songs. There is something so admirable about anything that is done well, and so we feel both awe and affection for what they do and who they are.

Love how you are fully in the PTX rabbit hole. You need to hear some of their originals too. An early one that is also very upbeat and well done is "Sing".

After they won the Sing-Off, the Sony contract they won dropped them so they started doing videos like this on a couch. Just a few mics and them. They started building their following that way. They did evolutions and other covers. That is why the couch appeared in the cover of Bohemian Rhapsody, it helped facilitate their journey.

Just a little anecdote. Fred Astaire was in the audience for the Motown special in which MJ sang Billie Jean, and introduced his moonwalk. Astaire was blown away, and called Jackson to tell him so. This led to clips from his movies being used in the “Smooth Criminal” video.

You mentioned an Easter Egg--I don't know if you caught it, but they did another @3:49 when they were signing "I'll Be There" Mitch and Kirstie threw in a line from the song Ben ("You've got a friend in me")

My personal favorite of their Evolution videos because Michael Jackson was a very big part of my childhood (I was born in the 60s and grew up in the 70s). Michael was a contra-tenor just like Mitch, so their voices are very similar. I don't know if you noticed, but this was all done in one continuous take. All of the Evolution videos are like that. BTW, her name is Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty) NOT Kristie. She actually hates it when people call her Kristie. She did an entire interview on that subject once.

This is my favourite of their evolution videos, probably because, like you, I know most of the songs, from the earliest Jackson 5, through the decades. PTX are so clever in their arranging, always sliding unexpected treats between the main melodies... never too much to take away from the focus of the song, but enough to keep us on our toes. yes! that "you are not alone" was absolutely done on purpose at the end haha in fact that Human Nature/You Are Not Alone/Will You Be There mashup at the end is my favorite part of this video. everything is just perfect - Kirstie and Mitch's vocals, Scott's runs, Avi's perfect bass, Kevin's beatboxing ---- all culminating to a flawless harmony at the end. ugh. it just floors me every time. please do more of the Evolution videos, which are all done in one take. my favorite is the Evolution of Rihanna but they're all flawless.

They did something similar in their Daft Punk medley. When Avi sings Television Rules the Nation, Kirstie, Scott and Mitch harmonize in the background with Around the World. Their sheer cleverness at arranging those little details is wild.

Most people miss the "Ben" reference in the very beginning; 'Ben, you've got a friend in me'. I don't think I've ever seen a reactor mention that song, but it was from the movie that was really early in his career. I think he was 8(?) at the time.

Good morning Lee!!! I am so pleased you chose another PTX reaction!!! Might I suggest one of their originals? They have a mini concert series called Popspring Pentatonix, with I believe, 4 songs they did on their first original album. Their second album, The Lucky Ones, has a number of videos out, including Happy Now, and Coffee in Bed. And I am still waiting for the Dirty Loops reaction of Rock You, Hit Me or Next to You!!!

Nice! Love that they’re so good, they make you swear every time! Makes me chuckle (Scottish here, so I understand the “swearing is mandatory for emphasis” aspect!) :D Their evolution videos are amazing because they show just how talented these guys are. No video effects, no extras, just them and a mic, in a one-take recording. Glad you loved it

That was a great one, as usual! The Evolution of Ariana Grande is really, really good, I think you'd like it a lot if you get a chance to react to it. Its a similar 1 take video and goes through about 16 or so of her songs. Its amazing. Great reaction!!!!!

I love it when Avi & Kevin are sitting up front so one can see all the work they put into keeping the beat floating along and their transitions are awesome. Yay! Awesome reaction!! Good catch about the bohemian rhapsody couch.. apparently they used it in that video to reference the couch and sitting arrangements they did in their early vids!! That’s what I heard anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️ But!! Totally here for a Smooth Criminal MJ reaction .. but if you do make it a 2 parter and then react to Alien Ant Farms version of Smooth Criminal. It will blow your mind! So many MJ references and Easter eggs in the alien ant farm video! MJ signed off on the cover too.. it is AMAZING and usually becomes people’s fav version of the song!! -Nat

All the evolutions of are good even if you don’t like the artist….especially rhianna and Arianna grande which are my favorites…and I don’t like Ariana grande lol
