Alright you guys have spoken and I hear you. I'll add all the performances to the list! And apparently 12 is crazy so I'm very intrigued to get to it but I think I'm going to go in order so I can see the progression.
7 (Born to Be Wild) and 10-12 (Let’s Get it On, a mashup of Forget You/Since You’ve Been Gone, and Dog Days Are Over) are my favorites, but if you don’t watch any others definitely check out 12 just to see how far they come in a comparatively short time.
@@jamesensley3906 100% . Ngl I didn't like /enjoy most of there performances because I just didn't get that ptx feel but especially for the early ones . 7 had Avi and Kevin really shine at the start Scott had an amazingly strong powerful vocals Mitch and Kirstin had beautiful harmonies and it was done with Kirstin being unwell it really gave that ptx experience . And 11 is impressive because of how easily and brilliantly they transitions from 1 song to another while telling somewhat of a story which again have that ptx experience . And you can definitely see them evolve in the show .
I would definitely recommend watching every performance. You can literally watch them get better as they go, and a few of the performances are B A N G E R S. Worth the time!
Avi tends to do the bass drops, and I heard him doing the overtone singing. In regards to Mitch, the producers were aware of his sexuality, and didn't want them to show his voice. PTX was very supportive and were able to slip him in and showcase his talent later in the show. Plus, the producers wanted them to pick a front man and of all them, Scott was the most confident. They did mix it up some later on, which you'll find if you continue watching the journey of the show.
@Ofra Cohen I also wanted to mention „Love Lockdown“ but decided to just go with Dog Days to keep it as simple as possible - definitely my second favorite though!
This was PTX's first ever public appearance, and Avi and Kevin had only met the trio one or two days before they had to audition,. Pretty darn good, considering how quickly they had to pull it all together. Spoiler alert - a little something that's not mentioned until almost the end of the competition - Scott and Kirstie were 19 years old, Mitch not quite 19 (he missed his high school graduation to be on the show), and Avi & Kevin were in their early 20's (Kevin had been pre-med at Harvard). Oh, and supposedly Avi very early on had developed a little crush on Sara...
Actually, Mitch was already 19. He's just a couple months younger than Kirstie, but started school a year later because his birthday was during the summer.
After the competition. Avi discussed it in an interview they did in 2012. celebrity crushes of the members were what they were discussing. Not surprisingly Scott's was Beyonce 🙂
@@larrywt656 MItch was already 19 by the time this episode aired. He was only 18 when they all met and sang together for the first time (June 4, 2011) and when they auditioned a couple of days later. I've always been under the impression that TSO, like most shows, began filming for the fall during the summer, and that the first few episodes were filmed before Mitch turned 19. But I can't confirm that. MItch was born on July 24, 1992, so he turned 29 on that date in 2021.
The full journey is sooooooo worth it to see them grow step by step. It is pretty amazing to see how right from the start they were in sync with each other and filling holes, and stepping aside to let each other shine. Truly a gift from god!!! The whole is definitely greater than the sum of their parts.
You're one of the first reactors I've seen that recognized Sara and knew her music. I love her so much. Her last album from 2019 is so good And I love that you're going through these - can't wait for episode 2!
Love how Avi blushes when he's praised lol. He also mentioned that he thought Kevin was cheating..lol That's because when Mitch does his little solo it's Avi who makes those high pitched sounds using his magical overtones....watch as he puts his hand to his ear. He does this in quite a lot of these performances and the judges never noticed it.
Don't worry. Mitch will get his moment. Don't forget that this was 2011, so a lot of the things PTX and the judges say and do are going to seem cheesy! And it's a network TV competition, so there's going to be some staged drama here and there (the coffee-shop skit in the bio at the start obviously was a set-up). But for the most part, the show is fun and you're going to see some powerful performances from Baby PTX! (Mitch was only 18 when they began filming--turned 19 during the Sing-Off season. Scott and Kirstin were 19 at the start; Avi and Kevin were only a little older.) Loved your reaction! Please keep going! We love watching people see these performances for the first time!
I totally agree, you should continue watching all their Sing-Off performances (12 in total until the viewers could vote, 14 if you add the two in the live finale). There are some gems in there you really don't want to miss, and it's always great to see how much they grew as a group in such a short time. And PTX won that season (season 3). I really enjoyed your reaction and commentary. Please continue reacting to PTX on the Sing-Off! Re the coffee shop skit: The Trio did a Starbucks skit with Todrick Hall before the Sing-Off which might be fun for you to watch: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9VvluGQPqkw.html
I am always so excited to see a reactor start this journey! I don’t know how many times I have watched it, though I did watch it when it aired originally, but I love it every time. It is just so cool to watch how they grow and progress week to week, and how they use the judges comments to help formulate their sound. Can’t wait for more.
This is a good performance to see, because it was the first time they ever performed onstage as a group of five, except for their audition a couple weeks earlier. The Trio, Scott, Mitch & Kirstie, had met as kids of 9 and 10 in local musical shows in Arlington, TX and sang together in high school. They asked Avi and Kevin to join them because the show required at least 5 in a group. A couple things about the show: The producers preferred the groups have a lead singer, so Scott stepped into that role. If you heard some whirring and whistle like notes, it was Avi doing his overtone singing. He can sing a bass note and at the same time sing a higher note. When Mitch is singing his solo part here, you can clearly hear his whistle tone. Also, they are only allowed 2 minutes per performance, so the songs sometimes see shorter that you'd expect. At the beginning of the show, Ben Folds often gave them constructive criticism, which they said they appreciated. They became tighter and stronger, and after about the 5th performance, they kicked butt every week. Looking forward to more.
I LOVED Season 3 of the Sing off. PTX improved with every performance. And the trio were only 19 years old in 2011 when they kicked everyone's A**! You definitely have to listen to the judges commentary at the end of each performance. So much Fun! My personal favorites in order... which are pretty much all of them include: #4 "Video Killed The Radio Star" #5 "Love Lockdown" ***** #6 Britney Spears medley #7 "Born To Be Wild" ***** #10 "Let's Get It On" #11 CeeLo Green & Kelly Clarkson mash up #12 "The Dog Days Are Over" *****
Definately do them ALL and in order. I love to see the reaction to the judges also. So yes and when you do, I hope you also do the one where they announce the winner. You can see the hope and the fear in their eyes. I will be here for all of them!
You're doing the PTX Sing-Off journey! Hurray! Ben Folds makes some terrific comments that the group really took on board, and are still part of the PTX sound today. Shawn Stockman is credited with being the first Pentaholic. This performance was only their second ever together... the first was their audition. Thanks for taking us all back to the birth of PTX!
I definitely recommend watching the full season. They improved and got much tighter as a group through out and it’s great to see And yes that’s Sara B who sings Love Song but she had SO MANY more songs that are better. She is still singing and wrote and composed the soundtrack for the musical The Waitress
Kirstie's Texas accent was still so thick at this point. Even to this day, she still has it (just not as pronounced), and as a Texan myself, I like it. Each of their performances on The Sing Off (with the possible exception of one) were really really strong. Ben was the hardest judge on them throughout the competition, but even he got to the point where he couldn't deny what was happening right in front of him. Unfortunately here, he didn't realize that some of those effects (the overtone singing) were coming from Avi and not Kevin. They won this season...once you were on, if you didn't win, you couldn't come back and try again. Pentatonix was able to come back in later seasons as special guests since they had been champions. If you continue watching the Sing Off stuff, you'll know which performance actually won it for them. I won't spoil it for you. Also, an interesting side note, Kirstie was the only female to ever win the Sing Off. All the other groups to win the championship during the entire show's run had been all-male.
Pentatonix actually ended up taking Ben's advice when they performed ET live at concerts. Starting off slow made a bigger effect when they sped the tempo up after the intro.
Good thing you have thoughts 😁 also good thing you rew back a bit 😁 I think this jury is actually fan to watch/listen to 😊 (Kevin became a father last week, his is the first penta-baby :') )
Just heard the penta-baby news on another reactors channel a few minutes ago.... My 1st thought: I guess that's what happens when they have a full year at home instead of constantly on the road! 😂
The annoying coffee shop order thing was definitely done for the sake of the show because the trio litterally met Avi and Kevin days before the audition. They do spontaneously burst into song and they rehearse litterally everywhere but it's not a polished 'let me sing my coffee order' style thing. At least from what I've seen
Oh, this brings back memories...watching them on the Sing-off (and yes, this is the season that they won, the only one they competed on. they did at least one guest appearance on season four that I remember, but this was 'their season'-as the judges/other groups soon learned.) I'd love to see you react to the whole thing, if you're interested. Or you can hit the highlights people are mentioning below. (Also, each episode opened with all groups that would be performing that night collaborating on one song: PTX might've been my favorite group, but those tend to be some of my favorite performances, just what they're able to pull off with all the voices! Season 3 faves for me have to be Season 3 Episode 1: Perfect (no PTX, sadly, they weren't on that night); Season 3 Episode 7: Halloween Medley (It's just fun); and one from Season 2 that is still my favorite: season 2 Episode 2: Someone Like You. But all of them show off what you can do with more voices than most acapella groups could ever dream of having, with all different backgrounds, musically.) As for the bit about missing whether they did Kanye's part or not: on this (and most other vocal competition shows I've watched), they don't usually perform the whole song, but do a shortened version of it between 1 1/2 and 2 minutes long. (which, as someone who tended to hear these versions first, means there's always usually a verse or bridge that I have no clue about until I hear the original....)
i would recommend - not necessarily reacting/taping - watching the entire episodes of Season 3 and 4 of the Sing-off. PTX is in season 3, Home Free and Voice Play in season 4. But the entire episodes so you can see what PTX was up against - they were the smallest group there, and the newest, with the least experience together.
Aw, you were so excited about Sara Bareilles that I was *so* sure you'd also be excited over Ben Folds of Ben Folds Five (I'm sure you'll remember them from their song "Brick") or Shawn Stockman from Boyz II Men. And yeah, Shawn was the original Pentaholic.
And with these competitions, the groups only participate in one season. So yeah, PTX won Season 3. I don't remember if you've listened to them yet, but try Home Free. They won Season 4.
Avi did some overtone singing in this song, but I think the judges felt it was Kevin and most people miss it. It would be good to go down the rabbit hole of watching all their performances - I think 13 in all. Born to be Wild (No. 7) and Dog Days Are Over (No. 12, I think) are my favorites. Also, Avi has a new solo song/video dropping tomorrow (Friday, 4/9/2021). I can't wait.
She was "Kirstie" (rhymes with thirsty) growing up. A few years ago she decided to start using Kirstin (Cur-stin) because she isn't 19 years old anymore.
She started using Kirstin professionally, but she still goes by Kirstie and just about everyone around her still calls her that. She even calls herself Kirstie in her live streams.
No reaction to Shawn from Boyz 2 men? They won season 3 and then the show went on a year hiatus but came back due to Pentatonix's success even after being dropped from the label. Home free won season 4 over Voiceplay.
I heard someone say that the show went on hiatus because of Pentatonix getting dropped from their promised recording contract and the producers of the show were afraid of the possible legal repercussions. By the time season 4 started, Pentatonix had signed with RCA and the show was able to deliver on the recording contract when Home Free won. I have a feeling that a marketing person at Epic lost their job over that earlier decision.
