Thanks for this, Duane. There's only been one member change....Avi, the bass singer ( guy with the beanie) left in 2017 and Matt Sallee became their bass. He's been there since 2018, so 6 years now. He's a wonderful bass with a lovely warm voice. This was recorded about a year after Sony dropped their recording contract they'd won for The Sing Off in 2011. The group decided that since they'd all just moved to LA when that cancellation happened, that they'd just continue by practising lots and recording themselves singing on a couch and recorded the pieces on Mitch's iPhone and loading on their RU-vid channel. They didn't give up, got noticed, won a Grammy a year later and gained another recording contract with Madison Gate a subsidiary of Sony.
THIS was the first piece I ever heard from Pentatonix back in 2012. I've been a Pentaholic ever since. Hardly a day goes by that they aren't in my ears in some way...either from RU-vid...or from CDs I have. They are incredible!!!!!!!!
This was the first video I ever saw them do - and it still blows me away. It's such a great song, but the intensity of how they did this really makes it come alive. I like what you said about old relationships, and how painful it is to share a part of yourself with someone, and then just let it all go. Thanks for the great reaction - new sub!
Babytonix! This is an example from early Pentatonix of a technique they've used quite a bit over the years - each member of the Trio is singing a completely different rhythm and melody (which, as a non-singer, I would think would be confusing as hell!), and somehow they bring it all back around in the end and end up singing together. Cheerleader and Perfume medley (in the beginning) come to mind immediately, but I'm sure there are others if I could get my brain to work this morning.
Their newest non-Christmas original was “I Rise,” done last year. There is no official music video, but do the audio only version- it will blow your mind.
I've never really thought of ex-gf's like that, but after how you explained it, that does make a little sense. And you're right, they do make every song better😅 They work so well together, each person is like a part of the machine called a "Pentatonix" and when you feed a song into it, it comes out better.. if that made sense, it did in my head😂😂😂 You should check out their run to winning that show "The Sing-Off", it was bananas!! I still remember them doing the song "Down" by.. I forget the artist, but it was incredible. And their mashups are CRAZY!! I think the dude that beatboxes is named Kevin, he is a beast!! Especially for what they ask him to do. I've been a huge fan of Pentatonix since I saw them on that "The Sing-Off" show. Pentatonix was to "The Sing-Off" as The Jabawokeez was to "America's Best Dance Crew". I used to love that show too😅 You should do some reactions to some of those ABDC performances like Jabawokeez and stuff. I haven't seen other people do them, so I don't know how popular they would be tho😅 Always a dope reaction!!✌️❤️🫡
I loved your reaction to another great PTX cover! And I also appreciate your thoughts about walking away from a relationship and the pieces we leave behind. I totally get what you mean.
Avi Kaplan is the only change to the group. He left in 2017 and now has a solo career. His music is incredible and worth checking out whether you do a reaction or not. As for relationships ending, breakups can be the same as mourning a death. For some, it takes time to mourn the relationship before moving on. Staying in touch is a big NO, especially if you were the one to get hurt. It is a weird feeling after all you shared, but when you think of it like a loss, it is easier to compartmentalize and move forward.
I actually feel similarly about some of my ex’s. I don’t maintain familiarity with them because it provides an avenue of possible distrust with the new relationships
Babytonix. One of their first videos. Don’t think they had a record deal yet. Also only one member changed. Avi (base) left on good terms 2017. They brought Matt in as their new base in 2017.
