I couldn’t agree more with the other commenters recommending that you wear headphones. I only THOUGHT that PTX was awesome until I heard them with headphones!
Avi's course needed a different track and Matt brings his own magic. He's a bass, but he's not the same bass Avi was - which proves the integrity of the group. They can absorb the new style and talent and work it into the whole instead of making the sound conform to what came before.
Avis mom was very sick and he wanted to spend time at home with her as well as being tired of touring..so he made the decision to leave. This from what I've read
All five of them have absolutely insane ranges. It makes them so flexible! I remember hearing Scott talk about arranging "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and he was like, "Can we start this higher and then key change up twice?" Yes, yes, of course they could, lol
Not even a minute into the song and I am crying already I am a mess. I have never heard of this group before. Now I feel like I have missed something magical I definitely want to hear more More MORE from this group. Absolutely BLEW ME AWAY THANK-YOU SO MUCH
You definitely need headphones when you listen to pentatonix. Sound of silence is incredible but amazing grace is unbelievable. PLEASE, PLEASE React to that one. 😍😍
The thing that still gets me is they do this with just their 5 human(inhuman) voices. Lordy I LOVE it when Kirstie goes to her power vocals, just LOVE IT!!!! Each and everyone of them is so special. Don't know about ranking but every version of this song i have ever heard is good. That's a tribute to Paul Simon's writing.
As a child of the 60’s I grew up on the original Simon and Garfunkel song. I knew the words but never cared much for the song. Then I heard Disturbed sing it and it made the words pop for me and I love that version. Pentatonix put out their version and I again fell in love with their version. On another video I read a message that said Disturbed’s version shows the helplessness of the song and Pentatonix version is the Optimistic side. Can’t agree more with that comment. I love both versions equally.
I can’t say how many times I’ve watched reactions to this song and every single time I get chills from their performance. I’m old enough to have been around for the original with Simon and Garfunkel but this will always be my favorite version. But I love it when the person react and gets blown away.
Well, the ORIGINAL (and just my opinion, the best), is on the Paul Simon SongBook LP. Just his quiet, melodious voice; and his superb clean but simple guitar. Magical - and always overlooked because of the trite S & G well overmixed/overproduced later version).
Props indeed to Matt! The fact that he made it into PTX says it all. Thanks for posting this beautiful rendition and your reaction to it. The goosies go without saying. Let’s have more! Subbed!
This always gives me chills. Matt's velvety voice is always great to hear. Don't know if you have checked out their cover of Creep yet, but if not you must hear it, but the version after they were unmasked on The Masked Singer is the best one to watch.
Paul Simon wrote this on his own. In 1964ish. It was on his Paul Simon Song Book LP. Which I bought, I think, in 1965. And STILL HAVE IT! His quite, reflective; introverted, gentle vesion - with beautiful accoustic only accompaniment - is the antithesis of the the crude, hyped up 'made for cash' version subsequently put out with Garfunkell, under pressure from their management. Try and find it and have a listen. (And I love this version).
Ive said this a few times but my 3 fave versions of this song give it 3 different meanings to me. Simon & Garfunkels original version is a warning to humanity, we are in danger of losing ourselves. This Pentatonix version is a glimmer of hope, humanity can save themselves. The Disturbed version is for me the darkest, humanity has been lost and any hope is gone. All 3 are outstanding.
No fan wanted Avi to leave but life happens. He had to seek his own path. The fact PTX found someone with so much talent and the personality to fit into the group was such a gift. Matt has an amazing voice and he had wanted to be in PTX for a long time. This is a beautiful version of this song. Completely different from the original and Disturbed’s version. Visually simple but it really fits the vibe of the song.
Don't know if you've heard "Kevin's 5th" yet. I was absolutely blown away by this piece. Just Kevin, his cello, and beat boxing at the same time. Matt comes in for some percussion, but honestly, it's a treat for the ears.
Since I retired, and about to be 68, I have been getting my affairs in order just in case. I have specified that the Pentatonix version of both Hallelujah and the Sounds of Silence be played at my memorial service. Cremation urn will have and open book with words inscribed. The time has come, the stories over. Thought I'd something more to say. (Pink Floyd quote from Time)
I have listened to this song 3 times now and the reaction to their voices cut into my soul. and make me glad I'm alive. The words are so profound and beautiful This has made me very happy I have heard other versions and of course the original but this group by far nails it !!!
nice reaction! I agree that this is a great rendition...just as chilling as Disturbed's.I've heard that the original was a warning, Disturbed's was anger that the warning hadn't been heeded and PTX's is hope that finally the warning will be heeded. Whenever the bass ( Avi or Matt) sings verse or lead, Scott takes over the bassline. It's hard to catch in videos because the camera focus is mostly on the singer and much of the bass is humming or just a word or two.
They amaze me in everything they do. All of them are talented beyond belief. It’s hard to pick favorites but I think their cover of Shallow is better than the original. Kevin plays an instrument and does the base beat. I also love their version of “Imagine”. The video is perfect and brings tears to my eyes every time.
Simon wrote this song. A genius, in words, feelings, music and the absolute truth of any city you see. Garfunckle did not think much of it. But, Simon begged him to have them play it in concert. He gave in. But, it was not well received at that time. Garfunkel was so upset. That him and Simon parted ways for awhile. They adventually came back together. And continued to make music . It was not until years later that this song became a hit. And people started seeing it for the amazing song he tried to share about this world and it's people in it. Seeking fame for themselves and treating the lights lit with their names, as God. While others suffered, were depressed, gangs writing on walls in subways and apartment slum walls. Simon, tells it all. How the past generation did not understand and see what he knew was coming. Is beyond me. I seen it as he did. And now days, it is beyond that. And we have to get back to the past with love and compassion or the future is much worse.
A Pentatonix rabbit hole would be great. I love your reactions and have been waiting for ptx reactions. If you think you have goosebumps now, use the headphones.
massive boots to fill and he fills them just fine. avi has phenomenal talent but so does matt. avi is making his own music now and his talent and soul are meant to be there and u can tell from the change of genre that is what avi wanted . matt has a voice that deserves to be heard for what it is and he deserves to be making music how he wants to. im just so happy we can hear such talent, wherever they choose to go with it.
I've seen numerous versions of this cover and many of them are great. But of all of them, THIS is my all-time favorite version. I love it even more than the original Simon and Garfunkel version in NYC Central Park which blew me away way back then when I saw it on TV LIVE.There are certainly other outstanding performances i.e.Disturbed both their video and the one of them on late-night TV. But, NONE, IMHO beat this one. Thank you for all your delightful reviews. I've been following for a long time now and I'm always delighted to find a new one when I come online to see my music.
I love Pentatonix. I listen to them every day. They are angels. Pleaee react to more. I suggest "Joyful Joyful" Live from the evergreen experience. Its an amazing Live performance.
I saw someone make the comment a long time ago that Simon and Garfunkel's original is melancholy, Disturbed is angry, and Pentatonix is hopeful. It's stuck with me all this time because it feels so true.
I can't thank you enough for how you find pure joy in what you do. It in turn brings joy to me. And joy is exactly what thus world needs most. I would like to support your chanel with a monetary gift but I don't know how. Please help me out.
You must listen to Pentatonic with headphones on - their layered harmonies are EPIC! You can hear every voice so succinctly and clearly. They are WICKED TALENTED!!! They have covers of songs that will bring you to tears!
So pleased you got round to watching this. Matt is amazing and a great addition when avi left. Would love to see you react more to ptx. Apart from the original this for me is the best cover version. Great reaction
Every time when I listening PTX I fall in rabbit hole again and again and I forget to breathing because I hold my breath 😅 Chills everywhere everytime 🥶 love love love ❤️
Matt is AWESOME! I love them all but Matt is so special with his insane range (Scott too) and funny, charismatic personality. This is my first time on your channel and I’m going to look right now at your other reactions 😊
listen to their version weekly, at the very least, (obv after loving the original so fully), and never tire of the goosebumps. thank you for sharing yr reaction - biggest love from chicago :)
This is a a great rendition. Love ptx they're all so talented. Listen to Elvis bridge over troubled waters (new mix better sound) love your reactions they're so authentically from the heart,
Everything Pentatonix do is next level! 💞 They even did a “100 songs in ten minutes” challenge and got 95 of them done , I’m pretty sure it’s still the highest record for it 👌🏽 They’re awesome at what they do as individuals but when they come together as a group it’s just incredible, and it doesn’t matter if there’s a change in the lineup, still 💯!
Bohemian Rhapsody. Amazing Grace. Imagine. Hallelujah has 711 million views on the vevo alone. I’m sure I’ve read that between all of the postings it’s over 1 billion now. Be ready to get Mitch-Slapped in every song. Kevin is the beat boxer. All of these people have talents you can even imagine. They have yet to do a bad song.
They are amazing. That isn't even a strong enough word. I am blown away by how much true emotion is in every song they sing. You can tell when an artist basically 'phoning in' a performance and not feeling it or giving it their all, but that never happens with this group. It's always their 'A Game' and you just get lost in listening to them.
I think she was referring to the first one. It was on Kimmel live and the show forced a whole frickin drum line on them in the closing verse. Universally hated by fans and PTX themselves. But yeah, the livestreams from Yale or the Hollywood Bowl are available now and are fabulous!
