They are geniuses at knowing who should sing what. They really know who would do the song justice. They do what works for the music.

This song is typically sung by a bass. That’s why they gave it to Matt.

They made the right call. It could easily have been given to Scott, but I like the fact that it went to Matt.

I believe Pentatonix usually decides who will sing lead and whether the lead will switch before they start working on the arrangement. With originals they seem to give precedence to the group member(s) that co-wrote the song. For covers, sometimes it's the one who suggested the song and is most passionate about it. Or the one whose voice fits the best. Their most recent original song, "Please Santa Please" was co-written by Kirstie and Kevin and Kirstie has the lead all the way.

Yeah that does make sense. That tracks with another group that did the same thing. Whoever wrote or brought up the idea pretty much lead the song

Yeah they decide as a group, Scott being a baritone has the range that covers most pop songs, which may be why he seems to lead most of the time. But they have the power to switch things up to allow anyone to lead. But this song in particular is great for a bass to lead on.

There's a behind-the-scenes for this. They each lip-synched to the studio recording, once with the red background and once with the green. Love that they chose Matt for the full lead in this. This was his first time at lead for a whole song and he rocked it. I love how they jazzed it up and made it fun for adults.

There are songs when one person takes the lead, most notably their original work. Please Santa Please, written by Kirsten, Kevin and someone else is primarily Kirsten.

@@AceofBadeReacts More often than not they share the vocals. A lot of the time Scott starts out because he's the baritone, but in Amazing Grace Matt starts. They have a variety of works and they definitely all get their chance to shine. In Imagine, Avi (the original bass) starts. If you haven't seen their version yet, it's a must. If you want a Mitch lead try Royal.

@@karehelene I actually did react to Bohemian Rhapsody where Mitch took the lead. But yeah the majority of the stuff I've seen I feel like Scott tends to start

@@AceofBadeReacts yup, Scott often starts because as the baritone it gives them lots of options in the arrangement to go higher or lower after his verse. But as you delve into their catalog, there is more variety to be found.

@@AceofBadeReacts Lead for a full song...not that I can recall. He has the first verse on Amazing Grace, 2nd verse on Hallelujah (live versions since 2018), 3rd verse of Sound of Silence, (not sure if a full verse but definitely some solo lead lines in: Kiss from a Rose, Come Along, O Holy Night (the newest version), When The Party's Over, and....prolly a bunch more I cant remember off the top of my head.)

I saw someone react to this and dislike it because it was "too complicated". They would have preferred an arrangement that stuck to the classic version all the way. You can't please everybody. This is why there are multiple a capella groups, each with a rabid fan group.

My sister is in her 80s. She is a musician and she knows how talented they are. It's a question of taste. I gave her one of their albums because I thought she'd appreciate it. She doesn't like any PTX carols because she loves the originals and she has 80 years under her belt.

Pentatonix always does something within every cover, to honor the original. Sometimes it’s as simple as singing it straight, but just adapting it to a cappella. Can You Feel the Love Tonight, The Prayer and O Holy Night (the new version) are examples of them sticking pretty close. Of course, PTX will always make it an upgrade, and they always make the right choice.

scott takeover a bass on this song when bass singer have solo or lead scott takeover a bass. rect to live of this song from evergreen(grinch aka ben hausdo aka kirstin fiance and babt daddy and ex videogrpher/photographer of ptx) and now tour. they have songs with one lead perfect is good example.
