When you mention that they 'transferred' the drawing to the wooden prepped board, how was that achieved? I see squares where he may have used measurements to correctly align proportions. Was there a 'transfer' method I am unfamiliar with, or is using the squares the method? Thank you... incredible learning videos, I appreciate you! 🤗

Congratulations, you have created a intelligent and highly informative site for painters. All your information is informed by sound research into historical painting practice. Chardin also used calcium carbonate to create creamy pasty whites. I discovered its use 15 years ago, one of its important qualities is not unduly altering the values, but creating a vehicle with a luminosity usually associated with glazing.

Hello Stephen: Thank you for commenting. I really appreciate your feedback. Calcium carbonate is a wonderful tool for any artist wanting to alter the consistency and luminosity of their paint. Thank you for sharing your insight about this material.

Thank you so much Luis for these wonderfully informative videos. I have been looking for an alternative to lead white in my painting; a color or medium that would impart lead white's qualities without the toxicity of that pigment...something that would impart body and translucency without overly tinting or diminishing the luminosity of the color to which it is added. I think calcium carbonate might be the answer!

@@LuisBorreroVisualArtist Thank you for the article! I made a tiny jar of marble dust medium mixing the calcium carbonate with refined linseed oil and plan to experiment, adding it to tube oil colors. I've been using Gamblin Flake White Replacement and really love it. It has the stringy quality of lead white, however with a high tinting strength. I wish I knew what was in it. The tube simply says it's titanium white with linseed oil, so not sure how it achieves the stringy quality...Thanks again!

Calcium carbonate is basically a filler and using it in your paint too much isn’t that good But is useful to make some paint dry more fast

Hello Marco: Thanks for commenting. I have found many benefits besides the drying time in using Calcium carbonate. For example, it makes the colors a lot more transparent while maintaining the body of the pigment. I use it also in my oil grounds where it makes a huge difference to control the absorbency of the paint layers.
