The all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma hasn’t gotten the best reviews… and rightfully so. Lots of quality control issues, transmissions failing, made entirely out of Mexico, and the price tag is out of touch with reality for a midsize pickup. Most trims are right at $50K… and the Tacoma TRD Pro and Trailhunter trims are over $65K. Pure insanity.
When there’s the 2024 Honda Ridgeline. In this video I showcase two trims, a Trail Sport and Black Edition. With price tags right at $46,800… are these better options to consider? The Honda Ridgeline still offers a naturally aspirated V6 engine, made in America, and has fears excellent peace of mind when it comes to reliability. Much better than the 2024 Tacoma anyway.
Would you choose the Honda over the Toyota? Feels strange to say it… but I think I would.
If you enjoyed this video, please consider Liking and Subscribing! Thanks for watching!

As soon as I saw the price tag for 41,000 on an SR 4x4 and 53,000 on a TRD off road. I went across to the Honda dealership. They had a 2023 Honda Ridgeline RTL HPD for 40,000. With 36 month financing, there was a 1500 dollar incentive and 0.9% interest rate. My final out the door price was 40,650. If you don't know what RTL comes with. It comes with everything the Tacoma Limited has. HPD comes with a little extra, like a wheel package. I don't go off road so Honda works for me. 28 mpg is a huge plus. Rear bedtrunk is awesome to have. The truck bed is also larger than most other midsize trucks.

Most banks and credit unions have lower APRs for current year models. The older the vehicle the higher the APR. I agree that if you have the cash, buy a older truck. Your truck has many enemies: depreciation, bugs, tar, the suns UV rays, heat, time, other drivers, nails, hail, jerks in a parking spot, rocks from rock haulers, etc. Plus with new vehicles you now have to work around an invasion of privacy.

I own a 2013 Ridgeline and would absolutely buy another one. It's been extremely reliable and has exceeded my already high expectations for a Honda. I think the ride quality, cabin space, rear folding seats flat floor, dual action tailgate and in-bed trunk storage are major selling points. Once you have these things in a mid-size truck all other options currently available are less appealing. I will stick with the Ridgeline unless I need a full size truck at some point. Then I would go with a Tundra.

He can still do the chores around the house and yard with the small bed, but rides and drives like the Honda Pilot they had before. The capabilities between the Ridgeline and Tacoma are vastly different. The Ridgeline is a unibody Ute. The Tacoma is a body on frame truck. The acceleration, AWD, handling, comfort in the ride...just wow! It was $7k cheaper than the Tacoma, looks better than the Ranger, and was just different than the Canyon. Is it perfect? No, of course not. It has some weirdness to it. Smaller screen, no 360 cam, it sits lower, BUT that trunk and the under set storage are really nice. The back seat has way more room than the others, too. Oh, and it has a V6. Turbo 4s are meh...I'm pretty happy with it so far, and don't miss the RAM as much as I thought I would. Yes, the Ridgeline has always been my first choice. While it's not a perfect mid-size truck, it excels in many areas. Let me outline who might not find the Ridgeline suitable: someone looking to lift their truck, tackle difficult trails, or tow more than 5,000 lbs. Aside from these limitations, I struggle to see why any other mid-size truck could be considered superior. Consumer Reports ranks it as the most reliable mid-size truck, and for good reason. It also boasts one of the roomiest interiors, accommodating up to three child safety car seats comfortably in the second row. The Ridgeline offers the best ride quality and is highly fuel-efficient. It's also known for its durability, outlasting many other current-generation mid-size trucks. Additionally, the bed is well-designed, featuring a dual-opening tailgate and a superior payload capacity compared to even my 2nd gen Tundra.

I'm actually contemplating one of these. Looking to upsize/upgrade from my CRV. I don't off-road, I don't tow (can't really do it anyway in a small crossover) but looking for a comfortable ride; with SUV wagon back, or pickup bed back, for cargo room; naturally aspirated V6; 4x4 or AWD (I work maintenance at a university hospital, so I can't stay or work from home, in inclement weather) for snow. Something with more cargo room, passenger room, and more horsepower then what I have now, and I don't need a third row seat. From Toyota: either 4runner or Tacoma. From Honda: either Passport or Ridgeline. CPO or new.

The only problem I have with the Ridgeline is no longer bed option. I need to actually move things like motorcycles without needing to pull a trailer, and a long bed is a must... but no one wants to make long enough beds normal in cheaper trucks any more... everyone wants a 4 door car with a small bed for whatever reason. I've had a 2nd and 3rd gen taco and loved both of them. The only thing I hated on my 3rd gen TRD o/r was the payload at only 965 lbs. I'm currently in the market for a truck, between the engines, price and payload, I'm actually really considering a Ridgeline.

I’m actually leaning heavily to the Ridgeline as my next truck I don’t care if someone else thinks it’s not a truck that doesn’t mean anything to me. I’m heavily leaning towards a 2025 black edition next year at almost 52 years old. I really want something comfortable and light hauling is fine with me. I have a 2020 SR5 Tacoma that I will eventually be sending to Belize for use there so I’ll be in the market for a new truck here.

I actually really like the Honda Ridgeline. I like the AWD system they have, bed system, and the Honda V6. Not a fan of the 9-speed or timing belt. I really do wish they had given it a lift for the Trailsport like they did with the Pilot. Ridgelines looks so much better with a 1.5 or 2 inch lift. I trust the reliability of the Ridgeline more than the Tacoma right now. I have an Odyssey and its been a nearly flawless vehicle for the first two years I've owned it. I can't say that about any of my previous vehicles from the likes of Pontiac, Renault, Dodge, Jeep, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Scion (also Toyota), and Ford. Compared to the Tacoma, yes I would most likely take a Ridgeline over it for my use case due to the Honda V6 reliability, interior design/quality, interior space, price, and excellent AWD system. However, I really don't like its ride height. I don't offroad much anymore, but when I do I prefer at least 8 inches of clearance. I checked out a Colorado Z71 the other day. The interior was nice and reminded me of my old 2009 Mazdaspeed 3 Sport. The Chevy dealer treated me really well with no sales games or pressure. That was a nice change from Toyota. The truck's interior is tight, but I really liked it. Build quality from panel and button gaps looked very good. It's a GM product though so if I got it I would have to get the extended warranty. GM is still GM.

If I buy a 4x4, it has to be body-on-frame, because it is very rugged where I live and we get floods from the mountains, but aside from that one detail, I'd buy the Ridgeline for sure if I were city driving frequently! I have driven a relative's Ridgeline multiple times, especially in the winter and just loved it! Yeah, it has the utility of a truck, excellent AWD system and comfort of fully independent suspension 😊. Ohh and better engine lol I just got my GX 550 Overtrail, recently! I'm still upset with the Tacoma, 4Runner and LC all being EXACTLY the same though

My wife had a 2009 Honda Accord with that 3.5 V6 and it was one of the worst engines in any car we’ve ever owned. Found out later from a Honda technician that Honda knew there were bad blocks for a couple of years but they refused to fix them even though it went through oil as if it had a leak. Won’t buy another Honda ever again even though folks swear by them. Side note, the one vehicle I had with a ford ecoboost was also very bad. Bought my wife a new 2023 GX460 and we’ve got a 2020 ES350 and so far it’s hey have been flawless. Purposely bought the 2023 GX over the new one with the twin turbo V6. Glad I did.
