We live in a society that rewards nonsense! We pay millions to athletes yet bare minimum in comparison to teachers , first responders etc. we reward the hype houses etc with millions. We reward dancing TikTok’s, bad ones at that! This isn’t any different . We live is a society with messed up priorities.

I can't shake off the feeling that the people throwing money to these streamers are doing so because it gives them a chance to "control" someone. they ask it and the streamer does it and all the actions are mechanical looking and simulated. they don't say no, they don't ask questions, they just automatically do everything these people say. I don't believe people PAY to see NPCs in real life...just load up a video game you already own, save your money, and actually enjoy yourself. And can't these people put in ACTUAL WORK instead of trying for easy cash? I have kids but wouldn't turn to social media for income. the way this is an almost now ancient concept, the viewed not having control of how the viewer acts upon viewing. The viewer's gaze and control have become more vast and powerful than the viewed are able to keep up with. It is never really inherently toxic, it just becomes that way when the viewer's latch on to the control they have and use it for satisfaction.
