As Ray Manzarek once said, "Robby is our secret weapon." A few things that people have to understand about The Doors dynamics is this: Jim was the moody, cerebral. poetic, exceptionally good looking lead singer who had an unparalleled stage presence. However, he was accompanied by two genius bandmates in Robby Kreiger on guitar and Ray Manzarek on organ/bass. Additionally, John Densmore was an exceptionally good drummer. The Doors selling points insofar as their record label was concerned in the late 60's was their incredible music and Jim's charismatic persona. Robby's, Ray's, and John's personalities fit well with this, though this tended to obscure their contributions to the overall creative genius that was The Doors. After all, Robby did write "Light My Fire," "Touch Me," "Love Her Madly," "Spanish Caravan," et al. Bottom line is this: The Doors were never a group who let their egos get in the way of collectively coming together and producing great music. And we have this to be very thankful for.
They had very different personalities. Robbie was the laid back dude that anyone could get along with. Jim was the mixed bag of nuts. Ray was the "sophisticated intellectual". John seemed on edge, or uncomfortable with the wildness that came with being in the group.
Jim had enough charisma to last a couple hundred years. Do you realize that teens still fall in love with the guy who didn't live past 27 and sang in a totally different language than the countries he's still popular in, (South America)? Well, somebody had to fill that order I suppose.
This young man is the most underrated guitarist ever. Edit: Let me explain what I mean by underrated. This young man has written some of the most amazing rock music ever. Yet everyone still talks about Morrison. Even himself in an interview has admitted he does not get the credit as in their first two albums were accredited to The Doors and everyone thought that Morrison wrote them. This young man should be at the in the public consciousness at the same level as lennon and McCartney, Jagger and Richards.
The Doors. Thank you. Four musicians, four artists, four people to bring poetry to life, all as one. No group before you, no group after you will ever make magic, love, Music as The Doors.
I was 15 years old when People Are Strange was released . I loved it back then, and I still love it today. Watching Robbie tell me how he played this is like an older brother teaching me the secrets of life. Thank you so much for these lessons, Robbie.
In my humble opinion, Krieger is a refined composer. He managed to invent a musical genre, with deadly riffs that still displace us today. I am always mesmerized by his guitar counterpoint in when the music's over. The real musician composes! and it doesn't just run with pentatonic stairs. Thanks again for your contribution Mr Krieger!
Matthew Lawton , I think what this guy was trying to say is that they used more than just the pentatonic... you seem to have completely missed the point, don’t be an ass.
@@troglodyteproductions2211 I just wanted to say that krieger you invested in creativity and composition rather than technique. the songs of the Doors are very accurate on the melodic part unlike other bands that invest a lot on the speed of execution and the rhythm. The Doors: ingenious melodies and riffs... each song of them is something unique. I believe it is one of the most charismatic band ever
It wasn’t just Robby John and Ray contributed. IMO Ray made the band. He wasn’t just the keyboard player he was the bass player and the keyboard player.
I can't believe what I see here. Robby Krieger himself, teaching. My God !!!! My f. God !!! Dear Robby you rocked my world for 30 years. You are a legend. You are the music.
Damn what is like listening to Jim Morrison when you have been next to him playing, now that he's dead? Now that you were playing over the song I got goosebumps. I wish you lived longer as a band. It literally feels like you ve been living between soo different times, the 70s seem so far away, the times many of us know thanks to all of you musicians.I was literally playing that song yesterday Robby, time to nail it , thanks!
I was thinking the exact same thing. What Robby must think when he hear Jim singing when he used to rock massive stages right beside him. I get the same feeling when I watch Brian May play and how he used to play with one of the great singers of all time.. .Freddie. I bet they miss those days
It must be really hard. I know even Ozzy, who's been touring with various guitarists for ages, still gets really emotional over Randy Rhoads. I can't imagine how it is for people like May and Krieger :(
Thank you Mr. Krieger for giving us the privilege to listen and admire your talent. Really grateful for you ♥. God bless, and greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 ♥ 's you!!!!
I can't describe how cool it is seeing Robby do these videos. Like many, I destroyed quite a few record-player needles trying to learn songs in my youth...haha. Thanks Robby!
I imagine in 1967 when The Doors wrote this, none of them would believe in their wildest “trip” that in 2020 Robbie would be sharing their wisdom with us via a thing called the internet, from a smartphone, during a global pandemic and social unrest. What would Jim say about it all? “I don’t know what’s gonna happen, but I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames”
@@Pimp-Master The lack of policing in many cities due to cuts in funding, murder increasing 1000 fold, CHAZ/CHOP taking over northwestern cities.... And yes the other half are fully obeying. Both are fools in sheeps clothing.
Почему то слезы на глазах наворачиваются. Одна из любимых песен отца, которого уже нет в живых. Старый Робби. Как-то это проникает в сердце, а значит оно есть
This is a true epicness right here. And only few of whole % of internet users on earth will understand that. This is really sad, but with a warm smile on my face, thank so much million times. It’s not about what this man did , it’s about - he did it !
So much experience and knowledge in those hands… really appreciate learning from the experts who paved the way of expressing yourself through an instrument…. Much love and Respect!!!!
I went deep on the Doors when I discovered them at 13 years old. I've watched every interview, backstage jam session, Indi movie and available concert footage I could find let alone all the readings that the internet had to offer. I owe this man so much for getting me into guitar. My brother and I used to battle who could who could perfectly finish both LA woman solos in one try haha. I guess all I'm trying to say is you made a big difference in my life. Keep rocking Robby, hope to meet you one day!
Personas así deberían ser inmortal...pero como eso es imposible lo hacen mediante su música... Pasarán 100 años y The Doors y muchas bandas más seguirán sonando aunque los creadores de esos temas ya no estén en este mundo terrenal.
The difference is: With Marty everyone can learn a song. With Robbie's "lesson" only highly experienced players playing for many years will succeed. It is no lesson to zoom the cam at the fingerboard! Okay, now dislike me, fanatics ... :-)
Please keep giving us this lessons, we love The Doors and i’m sure that a lot of people wanna play the songs in the right way like you Robby, I love you! ♥️🇲🇽
Told this story before When I would babysit new born son in 1980 , he would fall asleep listening to dooras turned down low. When my ex came home says turn that off. Soon as she did baby woke up crying
Robbie! Ur the man! Been listening to you and trying to mimic you since I was a kid in the early 90’s. I love your work, and I really love ur work on LA Woman, great guitar playing. Be well
The fact that this living legend is playing along with Jim singing on record behind him is absolutely incredible! In a way directly connects him to every single guitar player who ever sought out to play the doors. What an amazing time to get a personalized guitar lesson from such an icon. Wish many more musicians would do this!
I loved the road House blues tutorial, such a cool riff I ripped it off changed a few notes around and made my own riff out of it sounds great. Thanks Rob
Wow I watched this for about 30 seconds before I realized it was the real guitar player from the doors!! I was thinking this guy is doing this effortlessly...then I thought omg he's the real McCoy!! I've watched their keyboard player Ray manzarek on here showing how he played some of their songs and he is awesome too.! Strange days is another pertinent song in these pandemic days. Thanks for the lesson Robby !! you're a living legend!... we are not worthy 😉
There was nobody writing and playing music like you back then, or since. This is a real treat to see how you actually played it and incredibly generous of you to share it with us now. Thank you.
it s amazing to realyze that those guys who built the legend of rock are still among us... and still thinking of us!!! I am not a believer, but, man! May thee take care of them for so long
Such interesting guitar playing so different from my generation of guitarist when i was learning we really didnt learn are use a lot of those chords it was arpeggios when i was learning people like yngvia and Eddie dave mustaine the guitarist i tried to copy i do some classical some simple 12 bar blues some hendrix but never learned doors i of course kniw those chords its just so different the way they were used back then mostly dont use many of those bues jazz chords often when i write so for me as old as this style is its totally unique and new to me ive went over a few of his guitar videos and i just love the chord placements very cool loving it
If only other great legendary guitarists where as generous sharing their talents as Robby Krieger does. I bought so many of their albums over the decades, went to a ton of concerts and I really appreciate it when a legend like Robby shows his appreciation.
Yes Please, Spanish Caravan would be great. I learnt it years ago and can still sorta play it from memory but to learn it from the man himself would be great! Thanks Robbie!
Love the Doors and Robby...I enjoy singing Love Her Madly, People are Strange, and Riders on the Storm...great music. Robby, let me sing along - stay healthy and awesome!
It is such a privilege for me to learn from you, Robby. I play guitar for over 20 years, I started to play guitar because I wanted to play The Doors, the best band in history of music. Today, you corrected some of my mistakes I mislearned somewhere in late nineties, practicing over old turntable records that my uncle gave me. We live in such a glorious age. Greetings from Croatia! P.S. Please show us L.A Woman, with guitar solo, which tortures me since I play guitar. :(
