King Olaf(I think that was him) once tried to convert vikings who had a statue of Thor whom they offered food, and they pointed out that the food actually disappears as if the god took them to eat, but then Olaf broke apart the statue and revealed it was filled with rats that would come out and eat the offerings when the coast was clear
That isn’t really how that works- they didn’t believe the statues were the gods per say, they believed that they were representations of the deity which they could interact with as a substitute

Much less do I know of any case of the church killing someone for saying that the earth revolves around the sun and much less in the Middle Ages since Galileo's trial was some time after the Middle Ages and by the way the church only gave him house arrest.
